Wonderful half the time, but could've done better

This is definitely one of the better movies out there when it comes to story, food for thought and moral lessons (even though most people seem to miss what the point they were trying to make is). Could have done without a lot of the dialogue and should have been polished a bit more before the script was finalized, but overall I loved the style and the strong points it did have were amazing.

For those who think this is a feminist's power fantasy, it's not, it does introduce the narrative of men not being able to handle power and the "women's club" that punishes the ones who abuse it, but it does challenge all of that. The writer/director has a lot of talent and is actually a he, if you hadn't checked that yet.

While I did enjoy it quite a bit, it could have been so much better. It had such powerful blasts of creativity and originality, but fell so flat during a lot of the dialogue scenes, especially as the protagonist was being introduced. It was surprisingly in touch with reality, you never feel like there's a holier-than-thou protagonist and bad, bad antagonist, the movie manages to both portray how not black-and-white things are and still have you know who you're supposed to root for.

tl:dr I'm sad it isn't as amazing as it could have been, but you won't be wasting your time watching it.

Low budget but still watchable

A fun mixture of camp, schlocky horror and dark, gritty feminism. The change of tone is a little jarring at times, and the finale is a bit of a mess, but the characters are well written and well portrayed. The Rasputin musical sequence is a particular highlight.

As a teen vamp movie... 7, as a mature viewing... 5 if you are generous.

I am feeling generous so I will give Bit a 5. Watchable, but ultimately not a good movie. To be fair, the acting is pretty good although the roles are not exactly demanding, the effects are well done, the concept is even really pretty good, but it is so chock full of cringeworthy sexy Vampire stuff; so tailored to people who never grew out of their teens even though they are now in their twenties (or older), that it is really hard to appreciate that there is a good movie in there somewhere. It also so badly wants to be serialized (it even quite directly says so in an epilogue) that it avoids giving a satisfactory ending. Not even a THE END???... just a straight up to be continued (and to be honest I wouldn't bet on there ever being that follow up).

I can not stress enough how chockablock full of generic teen content it is. Sexy young twenties Vamps, ''underground'' raves and parties oozing sexuality, innuendo, wealth and young sexiness, and, of course, the naive small town protagonist who is seduced and who is going to be a victim, but has ''a certain something'' (although I can't tell what that something is except maybe being a bit similar to a certain someone in Twilight) that makes her get brought into the family. It has the Nosferatu disadvantages mostly glossed over... weakness to sunlight removed, far more control over blood lust (unless you don't feed for several days of course), garlic aversion removed, etc... which I don't really have a problem with except that it is so generic. The characters are similarly cookie cutter drab, each of which would have been perfect in Buffy, Twilight, maybe Blade, or any other pop vampire movie of the past twenty or so years. There are some current issues in the film as well, but they are mostly shoehorned in and do little more than pay lip service to a narrative of female empowerment and identity than actually serve a real function. This really is a just vampire fantasy at the core.

And of course... Dracula himself is there, but mostly as a background plot device, which I also don't really have a problem with to be honest. Not every vampire movie has to be about Dracula-- I would actually prefer if it wasn't anyway.

Now if you want teen content, this movie is likely VERY MUCH up your alley. Like I said, the concept has some freshness, and the production is actually pretty solid. If you are looking for something really new, there are definitely MUCH better things to spend your time watching.

I wanted to like this one

I went into this movie, hoping to genuinely enjoy it, as I had been excited to watch it. Unfortunately, I didn't. The concept is nice, but it wasn't properly fleshed out. Near the end, it all got rushed. What also bothered me was the music. It was too loud in several scenes throughout the movie, drowning out the dialogue. And it was a bit flaky how they sometimes abruptly stopped it rather than fading it out. I'm disappointed because it could have been a great film. If Nicole wasn't in it I probably would have rated it lower.

Love vampire movies, the first scene grabbed me, I liked the femme squad look, but the dialogue was boring, there were too many instances were the men were, basically the same trope as always with these, men are evil or will be evil (if they had power), at the same time women are cruel too, but justified, ok. At one point they just killing men just to kill them, of course. The fact that the main character is trans and the group knows it, in a group that is women only, there is tension. But they don't address, which I know a lot of women will not like. I can't stand that about hollywood sometimes, just no real dialogue on real issues, just ideaology. There was a back story brought up that had potential but it never really came to light, which lead to the ending, which was not believable TBH. All in all the movie was boring, I can deal with that, but this was not good. Just more if this group switches with that group it's all better, you know what I mean.

Lost Boys for Queer Girls

The first 20 minutes had me worried that this was going to be a stridently anti-man angry feminist film, and not in a good way. (There's a place for those, but not in my teen vampire movies.) However, the tone evens out and the message of the overall movie is much better. Like Lost Boys, this isn't a deep movie, but it's fun, and the soundtrack is good, and we had a lot of fun watching it. There are a few times where the humor didn't quite reach its obvious intent, but overall, it's a good movie.

Serious kudos to the film for hiring a trans actress to play a trans character, but also for making that a minor part of the story, rather than a Very Special Episode. It's just part of the character's background that makes her who she is, and it's handled very well.

(Side note to the Boomers and older Gen-X folks: Like The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Daybreak, Bit is made with Millennial/Gen-Z values. In our era, one non-white character and one girl were considered appropriately diverse for any group of otherwise white, male heroes. Movies like Bit, however, speak to the younger generations who live in a much more diverse world and have much different baseline expectations for that. If you find yourself irked by it, try acknowledging that it's not *your* teen years that are being represented. It's okay if movies like this aren't about or "for" us. Letting go of the need to have them be "for" us is the best way I've found to enjoy them for what they are.)

I've seen school projects better than this cringe of a film

First of all, I'm not a spoilt princess when it comes to entertainment. I often watch and at least find something I can enjoy in B-movies. There are films so bad they are actually fun to watch. But not this one. It's just pure garbage.

As far as I understand, the purpose of the loud, "cool" music is to make the film itself seem cool? Sorry, it's just another cheap cliche that would never work.

The actors, together with those who produced this mistake of a film, should absolutely reconsider their choice of career. Perhaps, McDonald's could offer them something in one of their restaurants?

Those who claim that the film is great, and, worse, have the audacity to insult and call the honest reviewers names for not liking the film either have mental issues or, what's more likely, work for the company that made this cringe happen. Don't waste your time. If you feel like seeing a bad, very bad, vampire movie, watch Twilight instead; it's a masterpiece, comparing to this. That's how bad Bit is.

You don't have to have a superpower to hurt a male ego

I had no idea about the movie's context until I started watching it. I have nothing against feminism or LGBT plots. I can also clearly see when its usage is good or bad. For example, "Assassination Nation" is awesome, and the latest "Black Christmas" is blasphemous. So when I finished this flick and stuck into the reviews I felt puzzled. The acting is decent, the cinematography is eye-candy, the music perfectly fits (the "Rasputin" part is best), and even some radical points doesn't make me feel guilty of being a man.

"Bit" bites at timely feminist themes and never misses the spot thanks to the lightful and frisky way of storytelling. Its visuals are even better than the "men shouldn't possess power like this, they'll screw it up" message. In the end, "Bit" doesn't take itself too serious and that's how it eventually wins. Definetely worth a watch.

Writing this bad should be illegal

Sadly this film was marketed as comedy/horror. That is simply not the case. There is barely a glint of humor in this vibeless, disjointed, train wreck of an attempt at filmmaking. At the time of watching I didn't realize that the protagonist was trans. Her acting was actually not bad. In fact the writing was so bad it was close to impossible to judge the merits of the actors. The plot was threadbare, the point of view of the characters was incomprehensible. The antagonist does not show up until very late in the film. The pacing was horrible. This film lacks any redeeming qualities. I feel like I was had by the trailer.

Campy culty goodness

The comedy aspect is how campy it is. Honestly it is right up there with some of the best vampire movies. It will be a cult classic for sure.

This is a beautifully shot film from beginning to end, the colors popped off the screen and everything was just dark enough to set the mood. Following a young woman named Laurel from Oregon so she can give things a shake in LA for a summer, we see her go to a concert where she meets up with a group of mysterious women who turn out to be vampires. Shenanigans of course ensue as Laurel gets turned and has to learn the ropes of what it means to be a vampire.

Queer themes are everywhere in this movie, but never more than what's necessary to establish that the women are indeed lesbians (or queer). The fact that Laurel is transgender was honestly lost on me until I checked out the reviews for it. So clearly they didn't go overboard in the film, it just wasn't that central to the story.

Speaking of the story, this is the one area I struggled with... It's a simple story, which is fine, but I honestly wanted more back story for the supporting cast. We know Laurel and the lead vampire Duke, who has a highly entertaining bit of exposition to cover her back story (to the tune of 'Rasputin' no less). However there are three other women there that have a good screen presence but never actually get much more than a line or two of background information.

The acting isn't bad either, they were going for a sort of ethereal performance I suppose and it worked in a campy sort of way.

All in all, the movie is fun as long as you aren't a fragile dude bro.

"Share the power"

And this was the ultimate end of a horrible vampire movie. I generally love a good vamp movie. This was not one of them. I wish vamp movies would stop spending so much of the movie on how they turn into a vampire and how they should love thus forth. We get it already! This movie started off good and then got slow and then sped up again then ended in disappointment. Not to mention the long unbearable beginning ride in the car we had to watch the main actress go thought . What was the point there? I do not recommend this movie and hope you stay away from it. If you value a true vampire movie, that is.

I was lured into seeing this based upon recommendations on Twitter. Should have ignored them. There a lots of problems with this flick. Firstly, the writing is abysmal. I kept hearing these horrible lines and rewriting them in my head to make them better. Secondly, other than Diana Hopper as Duke, the acting is wooden. L.A. is full of fine young actors looking to break into the business. None of them appear in this film. Thirdly, the film's climax is jarringly bad. I really tried to turn off my brain off by this point but I couldn't ignore the nonsense that was unfolding before my eyes. A waste of time and money.

The poster and the premise are the only things about this movie to be recommended. It's really poorly written, looks as cheap as it probably was and even the best performances top out at mediocre. I've definitely seen worse, but not often.

Lacks suspense and scares

This movie lacks the suspense and scare you would expect from a vampire movie. Nicole Maines did a good job and stood out amongst the stiff acting from her costars. There was no character development and I found myself not caring whether or not any of them survived. In fact, when the ancient vampire Vlad appeared towards the end, I got excited and thought something interesting was going to happen. Unfortunately, as fast as he appeared, he was gone. I gave this movie three stars because the movie looked good.

A fun take on vampire movies...

Don't let the thinly veiled homophobia, transphobia and misogyny fool you on other reviews...This movie isn't fantastic, doesn't have high production value, but it has an engaging storyline, with an evident sense of humor. People often mistake a point of you, as an agenda... Which is not the case here. It's just a horror/fantasy film from an LGBTQ+ perspective. I enjoyed it, and will probably watch it again.

I liked the idea and the bite club thing with the rules and there were some nice and fun scenes , I would like to see another one with more of the last conversation fleshed out like how they plan to vamp out the world with their super vamp chick power thing that would be interesting it was a nice idea and it was cool! Good job.

I mean, it's hard to not talk about the elephant.

The Lesbian Lost Boys analogy someone else gave is dead on. The other reviews are pretty blatent for their political idiology. With all that crap out of the way. At it's core, it's quality is decent. The storyboarding is middle of the spectrum.

Now, I honestly know nothing about LGBT communities. I don't know if the writer is a member of one these communities. However, I can respect the quality that I *think* that's how a person in these characters shoes would react. So, I think the writing is pretty intuitive. Honestly, as you can see by some of these reviews, people deserve characters they can relate to. I can't relate, but that's okay.

Now, for the bad. This movie is so anti-male it beats you over the head with it at ever waking moment, as is the tendency in any Hollywood movie lately. As some other reviewers might say, I don't like "Strong women characters". However, it's completely incorrect. I love a good strong female lead, especially in horror. We call most modern movies out for being misogynistic. We have to call this out on the other side of the spectrum.

In the end, the movie closes with a decent ending, that brings the whole anti-male thing back to middle ground. However, the movie is just too over the top gay for me. That's okay. It wasnt made for me. I applaud their efforts though, and if they didn't go to their extremist sections, it could have been a better movie for all.

..., You'll get to see Ms Maines performing well, in costumes the Supergirl wardrobe dept can't use for the hero side.

If you came looking for strong plot, deep meaning, or proper horror, this ain't it. It's not dark enough to be scary, or bloody enough to fit in the indie horror league.

On a techniques level, the film is shot, lit, ADR'd, edited and directed at a competent level, there's no jarring lapses in quality of production. It may even be a little too well made to fit the indie scene.

The plot is pretty standard fare, and the script doesn't really push the actors, it's a little too tame in the places where it could, and should have, pushed in to new ground. It errs to the side of caution, even trying to be politically correct, where it could have flipped the tropes and surprised viewers.

It's an easy watch, but not one you'll watch over and over, unless you're a Dreamer fan.

This is a below average addition to the horror genre that I wouldn't go out of my way to see

Bit (2019) is a movie that I recently watched on Tubi. The storyline follows a young lady who leaves home and moves in with her brother in Los Angeles. As she adjusts to the big city she encounters four lesbian vampires who turn her and flips her life upside down.

This movie is written and directed by Brad Michael Elmore (Wolfman Pop) and stars Diana Hopper (Goliath), Nicole Maines (Supergirl), Zolee Griggs (Bride Wars), Friday Chamberlain (The Fate of the Furious) and Char Diaz (Mayans).

The cast for this is pretty well selected outside of maybe the villain. The settings and backdrops fit the storyline well. There were some entertaining kill scenes too that reminded me of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The flashback scenes were pretty good also and funny. The storyline was straightforward and the ending was cliche and as you'd expect.

Overall this is a below average addition to the horror genre that I wouldn't go out of my way to see. I would score this a 3.5/10 and recommend skipping.

It's a fun Vampire movie.

It really wasn't that bad of a movie. The actresses did a great job especially Nicole Maines for being her first movie ! Diana Hopper also did great as well. The chemistry with Dianna and Nicole was well done by both actresses. I wish the movie would have been longer and showed Nicole doing more with her new powers. Also I really think if they would have cast a better male vampire this would have help the movie also.

It's worth watching !

it's fun! don't listen to the trolls

As seen by the imdb ratings for other recent films like the new remakes of Black Christmas and Charlie's Angels, the current low rating has nothing to do with the quality of the film, and is actually just the result of misogynistic trolling. Bit is a campy fun vampire film with pro-feminist themes. If you're into that kind of thing then I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I did

Left wing agenda driven Vampire flick

So we have to talk politics when discussing this movie, because the movie certainly wants to talk about it. This movie deliberately takes swipes at more right wing social political attitudes. So even before discussing the quality of the movie you have to decide if this will be a problem for you. This movie IS preachy, and can be accused of having hard line left leaning attitudes, with little counter balance . For the interests of transparency my political stand is centre right . So yes i did roll my eyes a few times in this movie (not as much as main star Nicole Maines who literally rolls eyes back in every other shot). But i'm not going to critique a political opinion that isn't one i share. Out side of the political side of things, i still somewhat enjoyed the movie. In actual fact this movie i'd say this movie is almost a spiritual successor to the great 80's movie the lost boys. Im not saying the movie plays like that. But the lost boys were all about the outsider attitude and living to their own rules, and this movie succeeds in doing this, but for a very different time period with a different outsider mindset . In addition Diana Hopper's Duke (the main leader vampire) if effortlessly cool and leads the gang just like David did in the Lost boys. She is alot of fun to watch. The effects are pretty good with some decent gore effects & kill scenes. What doesn't work. Nicole Maines acting is pretty poor , as mentioned , count how many times the character rolls back their eyes in this movie. If it were a drinking game you'd die of alcohol poisoning . The character comes across as petulant, unlikable and selfish (the later, the character's own brother calls them out on) I personally think this is more stunt casting as they are a real transgender person , rather than acting ability. Also the 'Vlad' character is somewhat miscast, and why not just call the name Dracula as it's in the public domain . The rest of the vampire gang either gets little , or no character development . The movie is also unwilling to fully pull the trigger on it's own political posturing . The word transgender , never comes up and it's amusing watching characters talk around it without actually saying it. It feels like the movie doesn't have the strength of it's own convictions , and the whole mantra of the vampires only turning females , then the the fact they turn a trans person is simply waved away , in what could have been an interesting dramatic set of circumstances. As i recall there was a similar set up in Supergirl TV show that also stars Nicole Maines. I do think this movie deliberately tries to antagonize right leaning internet folk, as the vampires literally state they hunt not criminals or anything like that , but internet trolls and the types who make right leaning content om social media. This to me seemed very hypocritical and out of all the social political shenanigans this was the thing that maybe bugged me , as it's very typical of 'cancel culture' and very un progressive ironically. I feel the film makers a making a point to try and ruffle feathers to create a 'controversial marketing buzz' for this movie. All that being said, you can still have some fun with this decently paced , well shot vampire flick with decent effects . But most people will have to decide if the political element is something you can watch or not

Solid Vamp Movie

I'm surprised by the poor reviews. I love the lead actress, Laurel "Nicole Maine", she was solid as was the other lead Duke (cannot remember her actual name).

My favourite part was the flashback of Duke with Vlad, that was great. They could have done a whole movie just stretching that out.

I gave it a 7. The ending wasn't the greatest but wasn't the worst either.

Solid lower budget (although not obvious) film for vampire movie lovers!!
