Because of the large influx of single Scottish traders to Cherokee land, many men married Native American women. Thus, many people of Cherokee descent also have Scottish blood. Ludovic Grant, son of the Scottish laird William Grant, has an estimated 3,000 descendants in the Cherokee Nation, including Chief Smith who was invited to open the Highland Games in Scotland in 2010.
