Greg Proops returns to the Star Wars galaxy to voice a new race announcer. He previously voiced one half of the two-headed Troig named Fode and Beed with Scott Capurro in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999). This time around, the as yet unseen announcer is named Jak Sivrak, and although he sounds the same as Fode, the official site describes him as 'a copycat invoking a classic announcer style'. Since the name Jak Sivrak is very similar to that of Lak Sivrak, a wolf man seen in the original version of the cantina sequence in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), it is likely that Jak is also a Shistavanen wolf man.
During the opening sequence, Kaz and his wing-mates pilot New Republic T-85 X-wing fighters, the newest version of the ship at the time the story is set. In the original trilogy, the Rebellion used T-65 X-wings and in the sequel trilogy, Poe Dameron and his the Resistance pilots use T-70s. The idea being that General Organa's resistance doesn't have access to the latest model.
Kaz's T-85 X-wing has the words 'Republic Navy' printed on the side in Aurebesh lettering. The ship and his uniform also feature the New Republic Logo first used in the Aftermath trilogy of books written by Chuck Wendig. This is the first visual interpretation of the T-85 X-wing, which were first mentioned in the 2015 novel "Before the Awakening" by Greg Rucka.
Part of a Republic Gunship nicknamed the "Crumb Bomber" seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) is used as a wall decoration in Aunt Z's Tavern on the Colossus. The entire nose cone of the same ship was previously seen mounted to the outside of Old Jho's Pit Stop on Lothal in Star Wars: Rebels (2014).
Executive producer Justin Ridge has revealed that this series begins six months before the start of Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015).
