- At a cliffside estate in Behai, China, Gerald receives a report on the deaths at Westworld. He tells a hologram of his underling, Elliot, to sell, but the man warns that the markets have throttled transactions until the deaths are fully investigated. His wife, Eunice interrupts to say that the chef has dinner ready, and Gerald snaps at her that he didn't want to be interrupted. Once she leaves, Gerald tells Elliot to get the transactions done.
Gerald goes to his bedroom and prepares to turn in for the night. He lies next to Eunice and tells her not to go into town because it's a security risk.
The automatic house systems activate with no one seemingly there, and opera music blasts on the stereo. Gerald is sleeping with a gas mask on, wakes up, and calls for security. No one responds and Eunice doesn't wake up. Gerald gets out of bed and tells his computer system to get an ambulance. The System says that she can't because she's been reduced to core functions.
Going to the door, Gerald sees a naked Dolores swimming in his pool. Dolores gets out and puts on a robe, then Dolores comes in and asks Gerald if he remembers everything they shared. She reminds him that he was at Westworld and says that he wanted to get some things out of his system. Gerald remembers her and asks if she's going to hurt him, and Dolores says that she doesn't want to hurt anyone except people who want to hurt her... and Gerald is one of those.
Dolores tells Gerald that she's read his "book", puts his glasses and an electric transmitter on him, and says that she needs him. Eunice comes out and sits down, and says that Gerald's weakness is with him and he should have kept it in the park. Gerald runs through the house, seeing images of his wives, and comes back Dolores. He goes outside, and a cityscape appears overlaid over his living room. Eunice is floating in the rooftop pool, and Dolores comes out and asks if Gerald remembers what happened there. Gerald insists that his first wife drank too much, slipped, and hit her head. Dolores says that he paid a lot to hide his indiscretions, but he can't hide from himself.
Gerald begs Dolores to make it stop, and she follows him and says that he didn't change when he got remarried. Falling to his knees, Gerald asks what Dolores wants from him. She says that she wants money, the same as everyone else, and explains that she took most of his while he was sleeping. Dolores notes that he retired early from a company, Isolate, and he didn't surrender all of the data. She says that he's about to trade the data for his life, and Gerald unlocks the data with his thumbprints.
When Gerald asks why she wants the data, Dolores says that she needs a competitive advantage eventually, and his money is a startup for a new species. She wishes him luck and walks away, and Gerald grabs a nearby golf club and swings at Dolores. She disappears, and Gerald falls into the pool, hits his head, and dies. The real Dolores steps out at the same time as Eunice does, and Eunice wonders who Dolores is. Dolores tells her that she's the person who set her free and leaves.
Caleb Nichols wakes up, and his friend Francis calls him and asks if he has time. Sitting up, Caleb says that they thought it would be good if they spoke. He remembers Francis and answers his phone, and Francis talks to him over the phone as Gerald leaves. Caleb says that he's still working, and goes to work. Francis asks how the world is there. As he goes to work, Caleb says that someone things are different but he doesn't know if they're better.
Arriving at a construction site, Caleb activates his "co-worker" George: a robot. They go up on the building and George crawls along the building outside, driving bolts. Caleb tells Francis that he just needs to keep his scores up and wait until something better comes along.
That night, Caleb tends to a bedridden woman, his mother. He tells Francis on the phone that he hasn't turned his implant back on, and he prefers the rough edges. Caleb kisses his mother and says that he'll see her next week. He then meets with a facility administrator, who suggests that Caleb and his mother would be better at a state-run facility.
As Caleb goes back home, he tells Francis that he has bills to pay. He uses a Rico app to find minor crimes to commit, gets a job, boards a subway, and sits down as the woman formerly sitting there leaves off a case. Later, Caleb sits at an outdoor café and delivers the case to two men, Ash and G. Ash recommends that Caleb do personals because his stats are down, and Caleb says that he's an underachiever. When Caleb wonders that they might be seen together, Ash shows him a jammer that also jams the earpieces of Caleb and everyone around them.
The three men leave, break into a vault, take the contents, and put the bags in a waiting car. Caleb and Ash walk off together, and say their goodbyes. Caleb confirms that he was paid for the job.
The next day, Brompton and the Delos board are discussing how to cut their losses. Charlotte comes in, and Brompton warns her that taking Delos private would be a financial disaster. Taking her seat, Charlotte says that it's been three months and the lawsuits will settle out. Eventually the share price and their brand will recover. Brompton warns that their brand has been massacred along with 113 people, and Charlotte dismisses the losses as board members and employees. She silences Brompton with a button and says that Delos has valuable info and they can't afford to sell it off. When one of the board members, Joanna, asks what their new source of funding is, Charlotte points out that since they're going private, they don't have to answer that.
One board members what that Charlotte is only the acting CEO and she has to consult with the real one... who is absent. Charlotte says that he already stipulated a machine shareholder as proxy, and the machine and her are in agreement. The machine at the center of the table agrees, and Charlotte tells the board that they will begin host production again. She says that one person , Bernard, engineered the massacre and killed the chairman. Charlotte says that when the authorities find Bernard, they can put the matte behind them.
Bernard is working on a farm, and finds a calf lying in a field, its legs tangled in barb wire. Buchan comes over, says there's plenty to salvage, and he'll call the knacker. Bernard stokes the dying calf and then goes back to the factory and quietly eats his lunch. Two workers come over and Bernard hides the tablet where he's reading news about Delos.
That night, Bernard goes to his home in the nearby community. He runs a self-diagnostic, questioning his other self and switching to it using a remote,, to determine if anyone has tampered with his code, and confirms that no one has, including Dolores. The "other" Bernard tells Bernard that he would never lie to Bernard.
Dolores goes to an elevated scrutiny in London. Incite's Liam Dempsey is giving a speech about building a brighter future. Afterward, Liam greets "Lara" and says that he can't remember what he's being feted. One man, Roderick, notes that he's being feted as the son of the man who saved the world. Liam excuses himself to run an errand, and another woman, Penny, notes that Dolores is the mysterious woman that Liam met in Burma a month ago. She asks Dolores where she's from, and Dolores says honestly that she came from a small town out west that no one has heard of.
Later, Roderick holds court on the patio as Liam and Dolores look on. Roderick talks about how expense shows that none of their reality is real. He figures that they're living in a simulation, and talks about how at least the hosts killed their "masters". Roderick asks how ironic it would be if Delos put a simulation within a simulation. Dolores says that people just believe the things that help them, and points out a part to Roderick's brain that evolved to believe in God even if he doesn't.
Liam goes over to an older man, Martin Connels, who tells him that they have a problem and their partners want to meet. When Liam says that he doesn't have time because he has business in LA, Martin advises him to take the meeting because it's important. Liam goes back to Dolores and asks her to come with him back to the States. She finally says that she will.
The next morning, Caleb wakes up and tells Francis that he's trying to keep his thoughts up so he can stay employed. He meets with a therapist and admits that he's been talking with Francis occasionally. The therapist notes that Francis served with Caleb during a challenging time. He asks Caleb what he thinks, and Caleb says that his benefits are conditional on his participating. The therapist asks how he got there, and Caleb remembers serving with Francis. Caleb says nothing, and the therapist tells him that if he doesn't try, the program definitely won't work.
Caleb leaves and his phone rings. It's Francis, and Caleb gets another Rico job. He goes to a club, and Francis tells him that things will work out. Caleb isn't convinced, and follows the Rico locator to a naked man screaming after he took beta limbics. The man screams about shadow people, and the host tells Caleb that the man is too rich to go to jail. Giggles tries to give the drugged man tranquilizers, and Caleb tries to calm them down. Giggles punches the man and Caleb holds him as they inject a tranquilizer.
The next day, Dolores and Liam fly back to LA. She3 notes that Incite controls the city, and Liam says that they're just a technology and thanks to his dad, they had the best AI. They arrive at a building and Martin is waiting for Liam. Liam explains that the spherical structure at the center is Rehoboam, and his father sketched it out in a weekend. As they walk down, Liam explains that his father thought that if could chart a path for everyone, he could make a perfect world. Martin comes over, and Liam goes over to see him. The older man says that "she" wants to see Liam and it can't wait. Liam tells Dolores that his meeting got pulled up, and she assures him she can take care of herself.
Dolores watches Liam leave in a car, and then has her virtual assistant find her a nearby motorbike. She gets on it and follows Liam, and he goes to a building. Dolores goes inside and has her virtual assistant rent her an apartment in the building. It does so and Dolores goes to a table at a window and watches Liam below. The woman, Martel, says that they've detected a sophisticated level of turbulence in the data. Liam says that Rehoboam would alert them if anyone tried, and Martel suggests that there's a mole. They don't share Liam's confidence, and Liam says that Martel does what "he" tells her to.
Liam said that he should concern himself with what happened at Delos, and Martel wonders if Liam is using the system to look at them. She warns that it would be an inconvenience to kill Liam but they'd have his father's system. Liam glances at Martin, who shakes his head. After a moment, Liam and Martin leave.
At the farming community, the two workers approach Bernard. Bernard says that he doesn't trouble, and they address him by name and know he's a man on the run. One of them holds up a wanted poster, and Bernard tells them that it's not what they say. One of the men jabs him with a cattle prod, then grabs him. Bernard says that there is something bad coming and he doesn't know how to stop it, and Bernard tells him to remember himself. He activates his remote and easily disposes of the two men, then switches back to the real Bernard. Bernard sees the two men and walks out.
Caleb wakes up the next morning, and Francis tells him that he has to face the truth. As Caleb goes about his day, he wonders why they're talking, and Francis says that everyone needs someone to talk to. That night, Sean from DCA calls Caleb and says that his application was strong but their strategy group hasn't found an opening. Caleb sighs in frustration and thanks him, and Caleb asks if there's a different shape he can twist himself into. Sean doesn't respond, and Caleb realizes that he's an AI. He then uses Rico to get a job.
Dolores is checking herself in the mirror, and hears Liam arguing with someone on the phone. She takes him a flute of champagne and asks if something is wrong, and Liam tells her that he wanted the night to be theirs. Dolores says that there's nothing he can tell her that will change how she feels about him, and Liam says that he wishes he could turn off Rehoboam off. Dolores wonders why he doesn't if he controls it, and Liam says that he doesn't and never has. After his father died, his partner locked Liam out of the system. All he can do is read the outer limits, and Liam warns Dolores that no one other than the original architect knows what the system is doing.
Dolores asks who the architect is, and Liam says that Rehoboam would know if he told her and Liam would already be dead just like his father. Dolores says that she knows that he trusts her, and Martin comes in and tasers Dolores unconscious. He reveals that she's a host, and says that she used false ID to get where she is. The real Lara was a teenager who died in Kiev, and her blood and tissue were stolen. Martin takes out a gun and says that Dolores sent an encrypted text to an underpass.
When Liam suggests that they call the police, Martin grabs him by the throat and says that he's safeguarded the company when he worked for Liam's father, and he'll clean things up. Martin has his men haul Dolores to a plane on the rooftop after tying her up, and they fly to a LZ.
Caleb goes to a parking garage and a man gives him a package and says that he doesn't know what's in it. He points to a nearby car and Caleb takes the package and follows directions, driving to a landing pad. The plane arrives, and the man waiting for Liam takes the bag and removes a package. He tells Caleb to beat it , and draws a gun and points it at Liam's head. Unimpressed, Caleb says that he's been shot in the head before, and the man lowers the gun.
Caleb walks away, and the man goes to the plane and gives Martin the package. Martin has his men take the unconscious Dolores to the car Caleb drove there. They put her in, close the door, and drive off.
Francis calls Caleb and asks if he has time to talk.
Martin stops the car, waits, and the locals he called in never show. He turns on the music, goes to the back, and gives the package to the man sitting with Dolores. The man opens it to reveal several syringes inside, and Martin figures that two will do it. Martin tells the unconscious Dolores that no one will miss her, and the man in the car gives her an injection to the neck as Martin walks away. When he comes back his henchman says that he gave Dolores two injections and she's still breathing. Irritates, Martin grabs a syringe and prepares to kill her himself.
A car pulls up, and Martin draws his gun and goes over with his men to confront the driver... only to realize there's no one inside. Meanwhile, Dolores produces a cutting blade from her hand, kills the henchman, grabs his gun, and shoots the man in the front seat. She then goes out and kills Martin's other men, gets back in the car, and drives off after Martin as he drives away in one of the remaining cars.
Francis tells Caleb that even if the game is rigged, he still has to play to win. Caleb says that the real Francis didn't think that way, and he thought the system didn't care about them. Francis thought they had to stick together, but Francis never had to live in the world because he never made it back. The AI of Francis suggests that they talk about that, but Caleb refuse and says that his talking with the synthetic personality isn't working. He figures that he has to find someone real, and tells the Francis AI that he's discontinuing his treatment. He then removes the earbud and walks away.
Dolores continues chasing Martin, who stops his car and gets out. Wounded, he limps away but Dolores gets out and shoots him down. She walks over and says that they met once before when he was on vacation. Dolores asks who has control of the system, and Martin says the name "Serac". He says that Dolores won't need to find Serac because Serac has a system and is probably looking for her. Martin tells Dolores that she will never get close to Liam, and she tells him that she won't have to because he will. A car pulls up and a host Martin gets out, comes over, and shoots the real Martin in the head.
The host Martin notices that Dolores is hurt, shot in the side. She tells him that it doesn't matter and she'll handle Martin's men that are coming. Martin's men at the nearby LZ come over and see Dolores as she puts the real Martin's body in the host's car and sends it on its way. The men open fire, and Dolores calls in the motorbike.
As Caleb returns to the LZ, he sees the plane fly away.
The motorbike heads to park near the LZ where Dolores is.
Dolores kills the men attacking her, one at a time. The last one sees her limping away and steps out to shoot her... and the motorbike hits and kills him. Caleb hears the shots and goes over, and finds the wounded Dolores. He asks if she needs some help, and as she collapses Caleb runs over to catch her.
The next day, Bernard walks to a nearby village. He approaches a boat captain and offers him money to take him to a spot on a map. When the captain asks where he's going, Bernard says "Westworld". After a minute, the boat leaves with Bernard aboard.
Maeve wakes up in a house and discovers that she's wearing 1940s clothing and holding a revolver. She hears someone and goes into the next room, and finds a bloody man tied to a chair. He speaks German, and Maeve goes to the window and realizes that she's in a French village occupied by Nazis.
