Story Progresses....

Alright this one a bit slower than the Pilot. Not as much happens but the story does develop. Still a good Ep. 8/10.

Another good episode, but a drop from the previous one
AT200115 May 2021
Not much of action, but rather introducing a new character named Yennefer and focusing on her story. The writers had gone way too deep into her story, it could have been shortened. Again, the mix of the 3 timelines makes it a confusing but intriguing watch.

This is a confusing story
kristi237422 December 2019
I should not have to read the book to understand what is going on. The show is not taking the time to explain things properly or at least this is how I feel at this point. Maybe things will come together, but somehow I feel like I am being cheated out of many aspects of the original story. I guess I will just have to read the book to fully understand it. This should not be the case.

That Ending Tho: Toss a coin to your Witcher, indeed!!! Wonderful!
GraXXoR7 February 2020
I haven't read the books, nor have I played the game... Just clicked on the first episode on a whim... The first episode made a solid first impression, but this one was an even better follow up... Some of the scenes felt they were running to someone else's agenda... For example, watching the Yennifer/slash/Istredd gave me the impression I had nodded off and missed an entire chunk of them skipping over the awkward and straight to the engaging tongues...

A little more development wouldn't go amiss..

But the reveals were heartfelt and nowhere near as clear cut as was implied at first.

Groundbreaking Witcher - new year resolutions

Nobel Prize?

Anya Chalotra is the best actress. Trump nicknamed Geralt the President wins the elections. The Last Wish best sells as eBook ever. Toss a coin to your witcher reaches the total record views and creations. The Witcher game wins most awards and players. Andrzej Sapkowski gets the Nobel Prize for Literature.

A great follow-up.

What was missing from the first episode you essentially get here. More backstory, more storytelling makes it a more watchable episode than the first one. While the first one lacked in story, but great action, this one does the opposite.

Yennifer!!!
cruise0126 December 2019
4 out of 5 stars.

Yennifer is introduced. A character that has a twisted spine. And joins a group for training. Her character is interesting. Geralt gets a tasked to stop a beast from destroying another mans land. And he meets a side kick. Which can be a little annoying. The script and direction continues with this world building. Good acting. Action. And storytelling.

A step down from the first episode
wabevilacqua23 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The show continues to give no sense of chronology to the events, which is becoming weirder and weirder.

Still avarege to decent acting, but the guy who plays Jaskier was quite good. And what a great singing voice, too!

Again, Geralt's part was rather shallow compared to the source material. His back and forth with the Elf in the book is great, and in here it just felt like good guy Geralt was giving life advice to angry bitter elf. BUT - as long as we are talking about dialogue - his first conversation with the Sylvan is pure gold.

Yennefer's bit was interesting, but with such a weird pacing. So much stuff happening so fast. Her relationship with what's-his-face escalated so quickly, it was almost cringe-worthy (I hate this term, but it's undenyably appliable here).

All in all, this episode was ok, but definitely a step down from the first one.

Many qustions should be answered
Dr_Seyed4 January 2020
This episodes was fully confusing for me.I think it takes time to understanding this huge world specially for people who had never played the games of the witcher or read the books.we actually need to realize the rules of this universe and its power...what kind of people live in it? and whats their powers and weaknesses? And many many questions...I hope my patience works and my questions be answered in next episodes.

So far so good but...
peacefrog222-222 December 2019
Wish the person who rated this a 1 star because they didn't used a disabled actress for Yennifer would of watched a little more before shooting their mouth off, there is an obvious reason for it...smh.

Another solid building block for a confirmed promising series
sam_l_kay20 December 2019
I absolutely loved what they've done with retelling Yennefer's origin story, an interesting (for good reasons) change from the books! This episode does a great job of expanding on the world and establishing the role magic plays in the world of The Witcher.

The music and costumes are absolutely amazing and the acting is brilliant. I just wish the humour carried over from the books into this episode because the story we see Geralt follow was hilarious in the novel but it was a bit of a let down in this episode. However our favourite Bard makes a superb entrance and I think the unique friendship of these two male characters will be a highlight for the series going forward.

Could have done so much better with Yennefer's origin
tant-6498927 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Out of all the things they could do, they choose to tell her story in freaking 5 minutes of the opening, why? There's no need to be rushed like that, Yennefer backstory is pretty good(in the book) but the writing here to tell it just so awful, she got bullied in such a cringy scene than she use her magic to transfer to some random place that the audience have zero clue of than her dad sold her in 5 seconds, like...really? This show have so many potential but the writing is just horrible.

This episode was slow and boring, but the content is not lacking. Little by little, we get acquainted with the main story. The last sequence was a bit confusing.

hopefully it will continue to go this way!
jovicarakocevic20 December 2019
The beginning of this tv show is one of the best, not fast, not slow, just in right pace. Still a lot of story needs to be said , but it's just 2 episodes in! Can't wait to watch season finale and see what will happened. And also season 2 is on it's way so we know that this can be actually big. Andrzej Sapkowski is amazing writer and he is actually writing another book for witcher who knows how many season this tv show will have!

For GOT fans that look to fill the emptiness that got left in them, this is amazing tv show! Blood of Elves was published before "A game of thrones" so there's is similarity but don't think about this tv show as some copy of game of thrones, because in reality it should be other way around.

Decent follow-up
pvsteijn20 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
After setting the brutal tone during the debut episode, the second episode slows it down a little.

We get Yennefer's backstory which is executed well enough and see some of her potential. Ciri's journey takes some interesting turns and shows some more of the world-building.

Geralt interacts with another 'monster' and comes across a group of elves. I'm not entirely sure what to think of the shows' version of Jaskier just yet, but I really hope they'll get their dynamic right!

Better, More Character Focused, Although Still Tonally Confused.
maxglen20 December 2019
I enjoyed this instalment quite a bit, the script focused much less on battles with nothing at stake and more on our characters, making us care for them so when the next battle or death does come round we are invested and effected. Yennefer and Tissaia were the highlight for me here. MyAnna Buring is delightfully hatable and Anya Chalotra brings a great and much needed humanity to the show. Unfortunately we don't get any of that incredible fight choreography this episode and we're still a little confused as to wether the show wants to commit to being gritty or light-hearted, the two don't mix. I'd also like to mention how fantastic the makeup is in this episode, really great stuff, reminded me of Pan's Labyrinth. Overall I'm going to give "Four Marks" a 7.9/10

What's wrong with this people?
ivaaanmgh13 January 2021
Really? I've seen so much reviews about "it's not like books" "so much info" "I can't get the history". I haven't read the books nor played the games, and man, I can get it. It has a fast forward, yes, but it's understable. And maybe this is not bringing the same feelings as in the books, but it's stil amazing. Books have always been better than movies or series. The ambience in this chapter is magical. Ciri's performance is great. Plot gets moving in this new chapter and it brings some surprises, betrayals, risings, knowledge... anyways, it was amazing chapter. If you gonna compare, it's better you don't watch it. If you don't understand, give it a try, it's a story of a giant lore and complex characters, if you want a simple history this is not for you, simply. It's like the most of this review was written by a teen or even a child.

A good second outing with one troubling flaw
richardderus22 December 2019
No, not "failure to use a disabled actor in Yennefer's role." Rather the way the Tissaia/Yennefer schooling plot is overly compressed. It is not clear what Yennefer's position is based on; the school's raison d'etre is clear and I must've blinked when Yennefer demonstrated her mastery of it. Geralt's imperfections are well highlighted in multiple aspects of this episode; Jaskier's bardic gifts are pleasantly presented; Ciri's education in poverty's realities is also well handled. But a lot happens and within each subplot there is a rushed quality, as if "finishing" the episode was paramount, not making it to be the very best it could possibly be. Adding another episode to take the burden of some of the stinted bits and thereby de-stressing this episode would've given an improved watching experience.

Good episode, but it's getting confusing
k_g_barreto26 December 2019
First I have to say that I didn't play the games, neither read the books, so this is my introduction to The Witcher, and looks like you have to be a fan to catch some things. The Yennefer focused parts of the episode is quite confusing to me. I want to understand the magic of this universe, but this episode didn't helped me. Chaos is a source of magic and something, I expect that the next episodes help me to get this. There are other things that I didnt't understand, but are minor things. A lot of things is introduced in this episode as well. New locations, as Tor Lara, a academy of magic for women, Posada, there's Yennefer, introduced here and I know she will play a big role, Elves, some worldbuilding, I didn't get it all but I know thing will get clearer, I expect to at least.

Henry Cavill is really good here, expecting to see the encounter of he and Ciri, Anya is good at Yennefer, liked her acting, Ciri focused parts of this episode are a little meh, looks like not much is happening. There isn't much action in this episode, but that's ok for me. The directing is amazing, loved the photography, all the wide shots showing Posada are visually stunning, the costumes, production design, the technical stuff here is amazing. A good episode overall and I expect to be more invested in this story in the next episodes

the story
Kirpianuscus10 January 2020
The first episode is one of impressive choreography. Fights and battle and kill. In the second, like a mist, the story becomes important. And that is more than a good point of serie but the fair deffinition of the target. It is more an adaptation for young public. It looks for no readers, no players. And it has the obvious desire to be considered a competitor against GoT. Not easy work. But a real serious one. The portrait of Yennefer or silvain are good proofs.

This episode is on "Fine" level. The story is really confusing and weird. But it's not that bad. World-building is great though.

Felt like a syndicated 90's episode.
larosaj-2666623 December 2019
Wow was this bad. Reminded me of those syndicated shows in the 90's. Some were good but many were really bad. If this would have been the first ep many would not have returned. Getting tired of these drooling fans that give every ep a 10. Gain some perspective and objectivity and stop sounding foolish. This was a truly terrible episode. And WTH is going on? Does anybody know that's not familiar with the source material.
