I lived in Pennsylvania through the years of this movie. One mistake by the parole board and the Republican candidate beats the Democrat. Then the legislature passes a law for life without parole sentences. So scores and scores of men have a bleak future just due to politics.
And I don't even remember the incident and story. Yet all these men are serving life because of it these decades later.
One of the men was released--it was unclear to me how but he had received a degree from Villanova during his years in prison. Now he is working to bring not only hope but actually get men released. And that is happening as the US Supreme Court has ruled that juvenile offenders cannot be sentenced to life without parole.
Anyway the footage from inside the prison is fascinating and the men articulate. I learned a lot and urge people to find a screening--probably hard to do--and watch it. It played at the Social Justice Film Festival in Seattle.
