An Interesting Story
A little man buys a paper and begins to read it as he walks down the street. It is so absorbing -- as the title indicates -- that he doesn't notice anything else. He knocks down streetlights and walks into women who stab him with enormous hatpins, yet goes on reading.
It's a well-executed comedy, combining stage gags (like the hatpin, which I conclude is collapsible, like a stage sword) and camera tricks. In fact, it's a remake and elaboration of James Williamson's 1904 film, AN INTERESTING STORY, in which the same sort of things happen, just not at such great length or elaboration. The distinction lies in the fact that in 7 years, the filmgoing public had become much more sophisticated and demanding: now this half-reel effort was considered a minor film, which might fill out a program's two-reel movies, or even a feature that would run more than an hour.
