It is highly unlikely that anyone would have died as a result of consuming the venom-laced apples. Venom must enter the blood stream intravenously (injection); the only way venom can cause harm if ingested is if the person has an upper GI bleed or is taking medication to weaken stomach acid. Even then, death is unlikely.
