Warning: Spoilers
Last week's episode of Final Space was a doozy. Spoiler alerts for anyone potentially watching or planning to watch the series; in the previous episode, Avocato manages to get his son back from the evil Lord Commander's clutches. Just when it seemed as though the two could make up for the lost time, Avocato is unceremoniously killed when the Lord Commander used his telepathic powers to plant a bomb on Little Cato. Avocato saw the bomb and covered it with his chest. In Chapter 7, we learn more about what the titular Final Space truly is from Nightfall, a mysterious figure revealed to be Quinn Airgone from one of the alternate future timelines.

While we had some tastes to the powers that Mooncake possesses, we are shown through a flashback just how much power this cute little guy can pack. In each timeline Nightfall frequented, the inevitable always persisted: the Lord Commander kills Gary, which causes Mooncake to become enraged. He then goes on a relentless surge of rage which causes Final Space to open up, releasing horrid eldritch abominations known as the Titans. The titans were initially referenced in Chapter 3 where the Order of the Twelve are known to worship them as deities and hold gladiatorial battles as an offering to them. So to avoid that scenario for happening the umpteenth time, Nightfall puts it upon herself to kill Mooncake herself.

This was another great episode. I loved how HUE - despite being overbearing - actually admits that Gary is his only real friend and that he wouldn't know what to do since Gary's five year sentence ended. Little Cato is still clearly in an emotional disarray due to the death of his father. Getting revenge on Lord Commander consumes Little Cato so much, that he nearly places not only his life, but also Gary, KVN, and Mooncake's lives into peril when he tries to take on a heavy incinerator despite HUE stating that the Lord Commander wasn't on the ship. Little Cato eventually breaks down believing that it was his fault for his father's demise. Such raw emotion is very hard to come by in an adult animated show, which makes me more fond of Final Space for deviating from what most adult animated series would sink to. Nightfall is also a pretty awesome character in her own right. While her motivations are extreme, it's blatant that she deeply cares for the fate of Gary and the universe as a whole. Her deciding to allow Mooncake another chance despite her fears is also conveyed well.

Watching the episode, it made me speculate a bit on the Lord Commander's ultimate end goal. We know that he needs Mooncake to preserve his own life, but we still haven't a clue why he wants to open a portal to Final Space since eldritch abominations populate that rip in space-time. I mean the Lord Commander isn't stupid, so I wouldn't really think he would try to do something that could potentially spell disaster for him. In my opinion, as the titans are worshiped as divine beings, maybe the Lord Commander's motivation for opening the portal is to ask them to make him immortal. Of course it is not certain as we are only 3 episodes away from the conclusion, but it is a speculative thought.

Maybe it wasn't the best episode but still it was pretty decent.
