- Jack (Peter Vack) is an internet gambler living in New York City who becomes fixated on Scarlet (Julia Fox), a cam girl from San Francisco. His obsession reaches a boiling point when fantasy materializes in reality and Jack sees Scarlet on a rainy Chinatown street.
- Jack (Peter Vack) is sitting alone in his dark apartment masturbating to cam model Scarlet (Julia Fox). Scarlet is a dominatrix who verbally abuses Jack by referring to him as one of her slaves and telling him to open his mouth as she puts out her cigarette. After their virtual session ends, Jack is shown to be a lonely man with a porn addiction. He makes a living by playing online blackjack and spends his money on cam girls and erotic female massages. Due to his addiction, he is constantly behind on rent and is forced to eat ramen noodles for most of his meals.
Jack visits several models on the cam site, but seems mainly interested in Scarlet, often getting dressed up for their sessions. When Scarlet greets him with her usual dominatrix routine, Jack asks if she can drop the act and talk to him like a normal person. She says she will if he donates her 200 tokens, to which he complies. In the ensuing conversation, Scarlet reveals that she used to enjoy painting and Jack notes that that is awesome. When she asks what he does, he lies and says he is a tech developer working on a chip called See Stream that would allow people to exchange thoughts by just thinking about them. Scarlet is impressed and wishes she was as passionate about something as he is about See Stream.
While Jack's landlord, Henry (Atticus Cain), is taking measurements of Jack's apartment, he mentions that he will not renew Jack's lease and that a painter is going to come by in a week to repaint the walls. Jack casually mentions that his roommate, Joe, has passed away.
ONE WEEK LATER
Jack wakes up in his underwear to find the painter repainting the walls a bright blue. He and the painter, Will (Kevin Moccia), strike up a small friendship as Will talks about his odd life experiences. While the painter leaves for the day, Jack has another session with Scarlet, where they appear to be talking as friends. He continues to lie about the progress of See Stream which leads Scarlet to mention that she was thinking about it in her personal life, which excites Jack.
While Will is working on the walls the next day, Jack agrees to show him how to play blackjack. Will gives him some money to play with and invites over his friend, Larry (Buddy Duress). While Jack is playing in front of them, he goes on a hot streak, but quickly loses most of his own money when he starts playing by himself. Since he can't afford a session with Scarlet, he resorts to looking at the pictures he has saved of her on his laptop.
To clear his head, Jack goes on a walk throughout the streets of New York where he sees Scarlet get out of a car in front of him. He follows her to a bodega where she buys a pack of beer and then he continues to follow her unnoticed until he loses her in an empty street. He quickly goes home and messages her on the cam site that he saw her in New York and asks if she's enjoying the beer. She doesn't respond, which leads to him putting out a cigarette in his mouth and talking to other cam girls. However, he can't get over Scarlet, so he masturbates to her pictures and frequently visits the bodega in hopes of running into her again.
An old lover of Jack's, Emma (Nikki Belfiglio), invites him to attend one of her art shows, to which Jack agrees. He brings along Will and Larry, the latter of which hits on Emma and starts play fighting with Jack in the middle of the art studio. Emma breaks up the fight and Jack spends the rest of the show admiring the various types of art. After the show, Emma and Jack go back to her apartment and start talking when Jack asks her to run to the store and grab a bottle of wine. While she's gone, Jack logs onto the cam site on her computer and asks Scarlet if she's available for a session. Scarlet finally responds, so her and Jack start conversing. She tells Jack that he must have saw her doppelganger, because she has never been to New York. They then start engaging in foreplay and Jack uses one of Emma's books to ejaculate into. Emma returns to her apartment and finds Jack sitting awkwardly, asking if he can borrow the book that he just came into. Emma rubs his shoulders, but he gets a phone call from Scarlet and quickly leaves her apartment.
Jack returns home and hops onto a session with Scarlet. She shows him the paintings that she has started doing and Jack is severely impressed. Over the next couple of days, Scarlet shows Jack more of her paintings and he talks about his love of Beethoven. He also shows Scarlet to Will and Larry. When Jack asks her how she started being a dom, she tells him that when she was little, she would torture the kids who got picked on the most. Jack then says that he knows it was her that he saw in New York, but she continues to deny it. He proposes a game: if he can take a picture of her in New York, he will take her on a vacation to Paris. She agrees, but is adamant that she's never been to New York.
Jack comes home one day and finds Will and Larry waiting in his apartment. Will wants Jack to make enough money on blackjack to pay for his son's college tuition. Jack thinks it's a bad idea, but Will and Larry convince him. They start gambling that night until they get a noise complaint from Henry.
After Will and Larry leave for the night, Jack tells Scarlet over the phone that he feels like she is making him a better person. They then start video chatting and she says she is thinking about quitting camming. Jack is initially supportive, but hears a door close in the background of her video. He asks who's there, but she says that she's alone. He starts yelling at her to turn her camera, but she gets upset and ends the call. After she ends the call, her boyfriend, Duke (Keith Poulson), asks her why she is camming in their bedroom and not her den. He also tells her that he finally got his liquor license and since they have a lot saved up, they can open up their theatre. Duke asks Scarlet if she can get some extra funds from Jack, since they're both under the assumption that Jack is a wealthy Wall Street businessman.
As Duke and Scarlet are sitting in on a rehearsal of one of the plays, Scarlet realizes that the scene is ripped straight from her and Duke's personal life, with the male character continuously calling the female character a whore for being a sex worker. Scarlet is understandably upset that Duke never told her the play was about her.
While Scarlet is taking a walk in frustration, she visits Emma's art show, confirming to the audience that she does live in New York. She also asks Jack for his address so she can look him up on maps. She returns to her apartment and starts video chatting with Jack. However, this time around, he is the one giving the orders, telling her to take off her clothes and pleasure herself. They continue to masturbate simultaneously. Jack then shows Scarlet Joe's old room. She asks what happened to him and Jack reveals that he committed suicide. He also tells her that Joe believed every relationship was exploitative and based on selfish gain.
While Scarlet is talking with the play manager, Sandra (David J. White), she learns that they need more money or all of their work will have been for nothing. As they're leaving the same bodega Jack first saw Scarlet in, Larry recognizes Scarlet and follows her back to her apartment. He then calls Jack and gives him her address.
Jack sneaks into the building (which is also the theatre) and begins looking around. He finds Scarlet's den and starts playing with her toys before sitting at her desk and messing with her computer. He then enters a door and ends up in her apartment. As he's looking around, the front door opens, forcing him to hide under the couch. Scarlet and Duke enter and start talking about the play, eventually sitting down on the couch that Jack is under. While talking, Duke reveals to Scarlet that he set up a few different accounts so that he could cam with her. Scarlet is upset, because he was wasting her time and could've been making more money instead. Duke follows Scarlet into the bedroom to make it up to her which gives Jack a chance to sneak out unnoticed.
When he returns home, he gets a call from Scarlet who asks him to fly her out to New York. As he's asking if she's serious, he gets a buzz at his door. He lets the person in and opens the front door to find Scarlet standing there, much to his surprise. She looks around his apartment and tells him to take a picture of her so that they can take their vacation to Paris. They spend the night snuggled up against each other. When they wake up, Jack tells her to look at ticket prices on his computer while he cleans out his apartment. When Scarlet's finished, she says she needs to step outside to get some fresh air and Jack says he'll join her since he needs to go to the ATM. While Jack is trying to withdraw cash from the ATM, Scarlet walks off and gets into a car. Duke leans out the car window and calls Jack a pervert.
It's revealed that while Scarlet was pretending to look at flights to Paris, she was actually transferring $10,000 from Jack's bank account to her cam site profile. Jack chases after the car as it drives away, but can't catch up. As Duke and Scarlet are driving away, Duke is very excited to have the money, but Scarlet is visibly upset about stealing from Jack. Jack calls his bank and tells them that the $10,000 transferral was a fraudulent charge, but they point out that other charges to that site have been confirmed so they can't do anything about it. Jack is forced to call Will and tell him that he lost all of the money for his son's tuition.
As Jack is wandering the streets of New York aimlessly, Scarlet -- having now left Duke -- texts him that she can help him out. He tells her to meet him at a motel with the $10,000. When she shows up, she informs him that she doesn't have the money and he tells her to get out. She refuses and instead tries to calm him down. She tells him that she thought he was rich, which leads Jack to reveal that See Stream was all a lie to impress her.
Both growing more and more upset, Scarlet tells Jack that she knows he broke into her house. He denies the claim, but Scarlet says that he checked his email at her computer and Jack begins laughing at his own idiocy. They both encourage each other to call the police as they both feel they are in the right, but neither actually does.
After they calm down, Jack asks Scarlet about her real name, but she says that she likes the name Scarlet more than her real name. He then asks if they can have sex and she says yes. However, as she is giving him a blow job, Jack can't get hard. Scarlet then starts playing Beethoven and reverts back to her old dominatrix routine by treating Jack as a slave and tapping out her cigarette in his mouth. This turns Jack on and they start masturbating alongside each other. As the credits begin to roll, Jack calls Will and tells him that he and Scarlet will get the money for Will's son's tuition.
