An interesting experiment

While the Internet Movie Database labels this as "animation", in truth, the large majority of the footage used here was live-action.

As the title indicates, this short is basically a compilation of random surreal footage (and apparently some deleted scenes from The Alphabet and The Grandmother) by David Lynch. As such, it does not follow any type of narrative, and basically consists in a sucession of creepy, nightmarish imagery without plot.

In typical Lynch fashion, each one of these sequences have a pretty great atmosphere, akin to a horror movie, even when not all the stuff shown on screen could be considered "scary" in a conventional sense.

I think some of the visuals were pretty effective (The scenes featuring the same pale girl from the Alphabet were the most memorable ones, in my opinion, with fully horror feel) while others feel just too random for my taste.

It does show how experimentation is also a necessary part for a filmmaker to develop his own particular style. These small, weirder works would be instantly dismissed as "non-profitable" and "self-indulgent" by modern Hollywood, but in many ways are more genuine forms of artistic expression than many modern blockbusters made by the big studios.

6.5/10.
