Borderland is the latest in a string of major movies to be filmed in Glasgow, following on from the likes of Cold War era flick Tetris, superhero movies The Flash and The Batman, historical drama Outlaw King and action movie Hobbs & Shaw.
Filmed in the famous Barrowlands markets in Glasgow
About thirty five minutes into the film, Michael's handler is explaining the rules of engagement and makes reference to "ASU" which is an acronym for "Active Service Unit", the name of IRA terrorist cells tasked with carrying out armed attacks that operated independently but as part of the Provisional IRA's activities during the late seventies and in some cases apparently still remain in place to this day in a "sleeper state", however even though this terminology goes back as far as the Irish War of Independence in 1920s, it would not have been used in 1975 when the film is set as the Provisional IRA didn't focus their military operations in this particular way until 1977 onwards.
About the film, the duo said: "Borderland is a vengeance fuelled chase movie, fusing some pulse ticking action with a powerful message for our times."
Based on the true crime book 'The Road to Balcombe Street' by Dr. Steven P. Moysey about an IRA unit placed under deep cover in London in 1975, Borderland will be directed by Tom and Charlie Guard, who rose to fame with 2009 horror flick The Uninvited.
