Murdoch and Ogden's relationship seems threatened after Julia suffers a miscarriage but refuses to take time off to mourn and bickers with William over their past and ethical and legal differences misgivings about Julia's prior abortion resurface. They are however pulled back into work when former morgue assistant Rebecca James's partner Nate Desmond is accused of the murder of a man he was seen fighting with and seeks William's help, only to arrested in his hotel room by investigating inspector Horace McWorthy, who considers Murdoch biased, while his precinct is presumed corrupt by Brackenreid. So William, Crabtree and Watts conduct their own parallel investigation 'a décharge', only the evidence seems to stack up against Nate, who is caught at lie after lie. At the root of the case is an illegal abortion involving Rebecca, salt in the Murdoch couple's wound.
