The Mitchells vs. the Machines

Edit

Continuity

A freeze frame of Katie's driver's license shows her date of birth as 5-14-2003. The recording of the family, including baby Katie, moving out of the cabin, is time stamped "May 08 2003."
The "Best Buy" stores in the film are called "Good Get." When Linda Mitchell's emails are shown, one from the Kentwood Best Buy explains that Rick Mitchell is banned from their stores.
At one point, humans are flown into a rocket, and PAL says that everyone is now alone and will no longer have to bother with relationships. Later on, it becomes clear that the people in the cells can look into the cells next to them, and even have conversations with their neighbors.
One rocket is supposedly at the PAL Labs in Silicon Valley, but the map shows it somewhere else.
During the rest stop montage, Linda holds up a jar of chunky peanut butter. When she spreads it on the bread, it is smooth.

Factual errors

It's very rare for an opossum to have rabies. Their body temperature is too low to sustain the virus. It would be possible only if the animal was sick first, then had an increase in body temperature to sustain the virus.
If Aaron is so obsessed with dinosaurs, he should have called his Velociraptors Deinonychuses. Velociraptors were about the size of a turkey. When Michael Crichton wrote the book Jurassic Park, he based his dinosaurs on the textbook "Predatory Dinosaurs of the World", by Gregory Paul, which mislabeled Deinonychus as a subspecies of Velociraptor.
While Katie is in the phone with Linda at the end of the movie, Linda mentions the family being presented with Congressional Medals of Honor at the White House. Civilians are not given CMHs, as it is the highest award given to members of the military. They would be given Congressional Gold Medals, which are the highest civilian award with particular emphasis as being an expression of gratitude from the nation.
At the beginning, Katie compares her father with a monkey shouting. The animal shown is a siamang, which is an ape.
Katie says they all got rabies from the opossum (which probability is already described in another entry) - rabies is a viral disease with 100% mortality once you get it, so it's not something one "gets". In real life after being attacked by sick animal they would get series of shots to make sure they don't get rabies.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

One of the language options on Rick's phone is Filipino. According to the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines, "Tagalog" is also called "Filipino."

Revealing mistakes

At the start of the movie, Aaron calls people to see if they want to talk with him about dinosaurs. When he crosses out a name in the telephone book, names and numbers on the left page are also on the right page.
When the rockets' locations are shown on a screen, it is clear some of them are placed in low-populated areas such as Antarctica and Greenland. Having to fly most humans to such remote places would be incredibly inefficient.
When the Mitchells' weaknesses are shown on a screen, someone's obsession with quail and someone's lax showering schedule are referred to twice each.
In all scenes, the frame of the characters glasses opposite to the camera dissapears untill their heads turn around, revealing the other side only.

Miscellaneous

When everything at the mall with the PAL chip came alive and attacked the Mitchells, the laptop that Katie is holding to upload the kill code didn't come alive or turn on them.
In the German dubbed version, the joke "It's like a Journey album cover" "What's an album?" was changed to reference to just a Journey record - rendering the joke meaningless.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

At about 1hr 20 into the film, when Mark says the line "It's almost like stealing people's data and giving it to a hyper-intelligent AI as part of an unregulated tech monopoly was a bad thing," part of the line does not match the character's mouth animation.

Errors in geography

The Mitchells take M131 West toward California. The M131 runs north and south.
The Mitchells have a front plate on their car, but Michigan doesn't require one.

Plot holes

When Rick replaces the punctured tire at the mall, he rolls out a spare. It doesn't show how he slipped it on the rim without a tire changer or other suitable tools.
When PAL gives the command to "look for anyone who can't keep it together", Aaron walks into Rick (we know Aaron's behind his father from earlier shots) and stumbles backwards. In the next shot, the robot in front of Rick is now suddenly seen stumbling backwards and out of line. We know this is supposed to be Aaron because Rick reaches out to grab the robot, but when the upgraded robot pulls off the robot's "face" it obviously reveals circuit boards and not Aaron/Monchi, who are still standing in line safe and sound.
