VFX was a step above Shankar's 2.0 but....
personalacc-8724720 January 2024
I don't know why but whenever a good director join hands with a big actor he somehow looses track on his project.

Ravikumar's previous project Indru Netru Naalai is one of the best Sci-Fi time travel film in Tamil Cinema. The film had so much content and an engaging plot.

Ayalaan, extraordinary VFX. Congratulations to the whole team because they've brought Kollywood to the next level in terms of VFX only not the film.

First half was good but due to lack of content second half was poorly executed.

Music was okay, cinematography was good.

Dear directors , if you don't have any ideas to sneak in second half , please just decrease the film's duration. We as audience are not dumb to watch Sivakarthikeyan fight a robot for 10 minutes and using a balloon to fly to another building.

Film had potential but basic storyline made it ended as an average one time watchable film

6/10 , strictly for kids.

Good
jinufrancis17 February 2024
I can clearly say this film is good. Announced on 2016 and started shooting on 2018 and packed up on 2019. Afterwards spend most of the time on post production cause they faced a lot trouble on financial. And my main concern is about the budget, if you notice the vfx and the budget - it won't suit up. Cause the animation looks more cartoonish - Compared to that animation level. Cause there's no proper retro scoping, the hands of human being while touching alien won't mark up properly, the boot of alien looks more bigger than the alien, no proper timed motion blur, green screen isn't merged with colour grading and many mistakes. And they needed to work on story more.

Kids friendly movie and great effects
elampiraiarivoli15 January 2024
I felt ashamed taking my kids to other recent 2023 movies...Full of violence or something uncomfortable and ear tearing music all through the film... But I felt very much comfortable taking my kids to this movie... They really enjoyed the movie including myself... Good ARR BGM felt like bliss instead of irritation... ARR really knows where to give pause in the BGM and where to give slow BGM... First half was really entertaining and enjoyable and it was very fast.... 2nd half was decent.. But somehow we missed the Alien little bit... Some minor disconnect... But still a great effort in making this film... We can literally see in the movie... I am a great fan of Indru Netru Nallai... Even watched that again... It had the curiosity of how the climax will end... Twist and turns throughout the movie.... We miss this part in this Ayalan movie... No twist and turns... Climax is very straightforward... Somewhere some twist would have been engaging... Something could have done with Isha Koppikar role... May be alien seeing the future issues and came to past to stop it could have been more interesting....

But I understand with the budget constraint they may not be able to bring everything in this film... Theater was full in USA... Because kids are watching... Tamil film industry needs to learn this... We need more kids watchable films... That will bring the collection to different level... Never encourage kids to watch mass heros fight scenes and violence... Irresponsible act from Big heroes just to bring more collection.... Need different genres in the movies... Like alien, time travel, suspense, etc... great effort in this movie.. appreciate the director for his efforts and waiting.... Thanks Siva Karthikeyan for appreciating these kinds of movies... Say no to Violence movies...

Tamil Alien Movie
best-review12 January 2024
Ayalaan Movie Summary: The film revolves around an alien joining forces with a kind-hearted young man to thwart a ruthless industrialist's destructive project.

Ayalaan Movie Review: Director Ravikumar, known for "Indru Netru Naalai," brings a local touch to the sci-fi concept of an alien on Earth. The film incorporates Tamil cinema essentials like a hero's introduction song, romance, comical sidekicks, a corporate villain (played by Sharad Kelkar), and touches on topics like organic farming. Despite occasional rough transitions, a less menacing villain, and some less impactful scenes in the second half, Ayalaan captivates with its imaginative twists on familiar Hollywood themes. The first half introduces the alien, Tattoo, as a charming character, creating wonder and humor that appeals to both kids and adults. Seamless visual effects enhance the film's magic, while occasional exciting moments overshadow its shortcomings. Overall, Ayalaan offers an entertaining experience, especially for those who enjoy creative takes on sci-fi elements.

A good movie falls flat due to its delayed release...!!!
PANDIAN12062114 February 2024
One of the standout elements of Ayalaan is the impressive CGI work done on the alien character. The expressions and emotions portrayed on the alien's face are truly captivating, adding depth to its character...

While Ayalaan may not be SK's best work, it certainly succeeds in delivering an entertaining experience. The film manages to keep the audience engaged throughout, thanks to its engaging plot and well-executed visuals. It is undoubtedly a treat for both young and old alike, making it a great choice for a family outing...

Many compromises from the director for commercialization of the movie which let him down...The director's visual storytelling shines, creating awe-inspiring scenes that transport viewers to alien landscapes. The cinematography seamlessly blends practical effects with CGI, enhancing the overall immersive experience...Ar rahmans bgm elevates the movie to a new level while the songs ain't catchy except MAANJA NEE

Overall, it is a pretty fun and adventurous film to watch especially 2k kids...

Wasted Opportunity
stangerjoe13 January 2024
Even for an alien movie, the film had the need to have a hero song, hero falling in love on first sight (ofcourse with a fair skinned girl), hero saves a stranded animal and then a kid kisses him. Nothing out of the template. This is Tamil industry's opportunity to deliver a good alien movie. With such a comical cast, there weren't that many jokes to laugh. Maybe a few chuckles here and there but that's it. For me, the biggest disappointment is the music. Both songs and the background score were not even mediocre but bad. Any other upcoming music director could have done a better job. Rahman was such a let down. The movie had every Cliche'd scene you would expect. I wouldn't even call it a kids' movie because there was nothing new that the kids might enjoy. Overall a huge let down and a wasted opportunity.

AYALAAN=KIDS FRIENDLY MOVIE WITH GREAT VFF& GRAPHICS
kaamadotanjiro19 January 2024
Positive SK and alien character development ok Some comedy scenes and 1St half ok Some technical works are brilliant

Negative

Prediction screenplay Lagging 2nd half Villain charecters Other charecters are totally waste with heroine

Before watching I had very low expectations for this film, but it made it up to the mark were you don't feel your money was wasted. It's a fun movie to watch with family. It's strictly fun, kids oriented movie .They have honestly taken good inspiration from Hollywood movies and had implemented it really well with a tincture of South Indian masala humour and songs . Really good attempt in making a sci fi film in terms of VFX and on the whole it isn't a bad film, to have a fun time Background score was good, but songs weren't catchy though. Kudos to all the actors and makers of the film.

Overall decent watch Entertainment for kids Above average movie for adults

The VFX is pretty good for a Tamil film. That's about it. [+44%]
arungeorge132 February 2024
Everyone's talking about ET and Koi Mil Gaya as obvious sources of inspiration, but my best guess is .. writer-director R Ravi Kumar watched Greg Mottola's Paul (2011) at some point and thought Tamizhify-ing it would be a good idea. Considering the film has been in production hell for years, I'm glad at least the visual effects do not disappoint. PhantomFX does a pretty solid job, and it's indeed their hard work that sustains the film's watchability factor. I'll also give part of that credit to Siddharth, who voices Tattoo the cute alien.

But I wish the writing ingenuity that I witnessed in Ravi Kumar's Indru Netru Naalai was present here too. The screenplay is inconsolably generic, and even kids would find the plot developments overstuffed and the feeble attempts at humor quite lackluster. Sivakarthikeyan does alright in a role that only tries to milk the middle-class guy-next-door perception he has, while the usually funny sidekicks (Yogi Babu, Karunakaran) are not as fun this time around. The antagonists are one-note too, and a returning (femme fatale) Isha Koppikar is way more interesting than Sharad Kelkar here. Oh, Rakul Preet Singh is in there somewhere too, I almost forgot! Also, this is probably the most forgettable soundtrack that ARR has composed in recent memory.

Quirky and witty sci fi movie
PavanKV19 January 2024
Ayalaan- Quirky and witty sci fi movie with a great pinch of message for humans to protect and safeguard the earth.

Director Ravi Kumar has shown this simple story with alien and humans confrontation, but taken with a good comic timing.

Siva Karthikeyan is gifted with picking good stories, and he has effortlessly carried forward his magic. Yogi babu and others are hilarious with their comedy.

This movie is a whole hearted kids and family entertainer with a strong message for humans towards Mother Nature.

Go for it and enjoy this sci-fi comedy that has a good meaning to protect earth as it is in our hands.

A scintillating Scifi work
rajvignesh-601403 March 2024
This movie is all scifi, a perfect scifi action movie from ravi kumar. His work from indru netru naalai has been perfect as this. Kudos to the VFX team. I can see the work put through each scene for CGI is remarkable. The work and efforts and the cgi and graphics were hollywood standards. Almost every scene is a CGI. Special kudos. But the story and screenplay could have been better not bad though. SK did his best to his role and all others collaborated very well. To be honest the songs were reducing the pace of the movie and the songs too not catchy. This will be ARR s bad album according to me. Bgm is ok. Overall a good movie. Kudos to ravikumar for bringing in a world class movie with all techs in. Please do watch it available in sun Next.

Can be made fully animated movie.
deerajmanjaray19 January 2024
Ayalaan movie can be made fully animated movie.

  • Story doesn't make sense.

  • Usual story with no big Surprise or WOW moments.

  • Character are not properly used but they have played very well.

  • Except SK's acting everything worked well.

  • As SK's anna fan, I'm sad to say this but he gives the
same expression and dialogue delivery from his first movie.

  • Excellent Cinimatography, VFX and Art work.

  • A. R. Rahman after 2.0 , We can witness his
dedication towards Ayalaan.

  • Competing with Captain Miller was too dangerous.

  • For sake Rakul Preet Singh have beautifully played a role of
female lead.

This movie takes the Kollywood to very high standards.
prithivirajd12 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The movie opens with full of social awareness and concern about this environment and there comes an alien and follows. The vfx is at the level where the entire indian cinema should feel proud. Overall sivakarthikeyan is a step ahead in each of his films. Music by arr what more they need to elevate this film?✨. It was like a magical feeling this movie took me back to my childhood where i used to imagine about these aliens and other sci-fi concepts and the duration was 2 hrs 35 mins but ive been fully engaged with the movie that i never felt any lag or boring Content inside it. A worth watching family and children entertainer 🤞

Missed opportunity
jijin-8312615 January 2024
Even within the context of an alien movie, this film adhered to a familiar formula, complete with a hero's anthem, love at first sight (featuring a fair-skinned girl), a heroic rescue of a stranded creature, and a child's innocent kiss. Regrettably, the Tamil film industry missed a chance to produce a truly innovative alien movie. Despite a cast known for comedy, the humor fell short, offering only sporadic chuckles. However, the most significant letdown for me was the music. The songs and background score failed to meet even a mediocre standard and instead detracted from the overall experience. It's disappointing that a more promising music director wasn't chosen; Rahman's contribution was underwhelming. The movie was saturated with clichéd scenes, lacking the fresh elements that could captivate a younger audience. Overall, it was a missed opportunity and a substantial disappointment.

Late arrival by two decades.
chand-suhas10 February 2024
An evil scientist Aryan is after extracting nova gas, using an extraterrestrial element named Sparc to drill the earth and he has no remorse in being a mass murderer to achieve this. An alien arrives on earth and is on the mission to retrieve the element. A good hearted villager Thamizh, has arrived in Chennai seeking work and accidentally the alien meets him, eventually befriending him. As Aryan prepares to extract the nova gas, it is upto the new friends to team up to stop him. How do they succeed in stopping Aryan forms rest of the story.

R. Ravikumar has come up with a decent story which is entertaining enough for kids and families with laudable vfx when it comes to the alien. However, the narrative is pretty dated for this genre and the screenplay is pretty much dumbed down to have a bigger appeal for a Pongal release. Even the routine jokes are made to work, thanks to the supporting cast and their impeccable dialogue delivery. Yet the film definitely felt like it belonged to the Koi Mil Gaya times, considering Indian films about alien.

The vfx is slightly underwhelming during the action scene but atleast the scenes featuring the alien is not. The pace gets uneven especially in the second half and there are barely any surprises left in store. I couldn't help but wish for Yogi Babu and Karunakaran to be used more, which could've made the second half work while Sharad Kelkar and Isha Koppikar gets one dimensional roles as typical baddies. I for one, had enjoyed the Director's time travel entertainer and Ayalaan definitely needed a better screenplay.

Could have been great, but...
TreeFiddy5315 January 2024
First and foremost, props to the entire team for getting to the end despite 6-7 years of production hell.

Ayalaan was... different from the usual stuff I've seen before, but also very similar in various ways. Ravikumar's Indru Netri Naalai (INN) was done really well for a Kollywood audience, and I was curious to see how this one took shape.

I think the movie deserves props for the writing, a sci-fi alien movie in Kollywood could go so wrong if not packaged in a certain way, and I think the film does get this part right. "Tattoo" (interesting choice of names) pretty much carried the film IMO and I suppose that was the intent....? You've not seen a funnier alien before. Always been glad that SK is okay 'sharing screen space' with the script, he does so in this film as well and delivers what's expected of him. The VFX team did a terrific job.

That's about the good parts. Plot wise, you've seen this several times before, just that this has an alien twist to it. The music was...mid. Yogibabu was given some chuckle-worthy dialogues but I don't know why we're still subjecting him to body-shaming comedy. Didn't need both him and Karunakaran in the film, one would have sufficed. We're overusing Yogibabu, I wish he were more selective too. Rakulpreet was given the usual heroine role, take it out, it doesn't alter the plot. I was glad to see that Isha Kopikar got the opportunity to return to the big screen, but I don't know why we needed two villains. We could have simply had her be the main antagonist things would have still been fine. This movie has also made me think twice before spending $ on a film with a 'corporate villain'. Tired of this BS.

All that said, the film is being unfairly dinged for being a 'kids film' and not having anything for the adults who go with them, the alien could be for the kids but the message, albeit not a strong one, about nature is for the adults. If the kids get the message and act upon it, time will tell.

Ayalaan was a good attempt at telling the same old story in a new way, don't know if that was because of the delay. That said, to completely disregard this film as a kids' movie is unfair criticism. By that logic, so was Koi Mil Gaya/Krrish - now iconic to some. I wouldn't mind a better written sci-fi sequel to see where Thamizh can go from here, but this movie, could have been great, was passable.

This pongal we can say as ayalaan pongal. A complete family entertaining film. Those who are planning for a family outing, don't forget this movie. Excellent graphics done by the production. Amazing action be SK. Always been a great fan. Ayalaan is a great family movie to watch with kids. With a bit of comedy and humour as well as thrilling and mystery. Would recommend in theatre with sound effects. Hats off to director Ravikumar for making and Sivakarthikeyan acting and other support actors and team.

Benchmark in kollywood cinema
kavisundar-7420516 January 2024
Its fantastic sci-fi movie in tamil industry. The screenplay was good and very well planned. Vfx is cool to watch in screen. All supporting characters are designed well. Story is simple and clean to watch. For me biggest disappointment stunt scenes because its not up to the level and background music and song can done better. Worth to watch and moral is great which given in this flim. Alien voiceover is really different. Director ravi Kumar is a gem for kollywood. Sivakarthikeyan's comedy in onscreen is good and chemistry with alien is amzing which worked in screen. Finally it's a k(H)ollywood movie.

Ayalan movie review
niteshkhumar14 January 2024
It was a good VFX based alien movie with social message. Great that Indian VFX team had moved to high standards. This entire movie VFX shots were done in tamilnadu. Hope Indian movies will move to next level in coming years. Alien world, alien, space ship everything was fantastic to watch. Real visual treat. Thanks to phantom team, Shiva Anna and ravikumar Anna. Daring efforts from entrie ayalan team to create the VFX shots in INDIA who believed their talent to execute the technical stuffs locally and achieved it with great quality was impressive. Hopefully waiting for ayalan part 2 in coming years.

Best Tamil Movie in terms of Sci FI
aandavarveriyan13 January 2024
I watched Ayalaan movie for 2nd day show..I absolutely love the film..Kudos to vfx team and it's worth to watch after waited for 6 years..SK acting was so good and I'm happy to watch him as fun character..

I give you 8/10 as my rating

Positive : Best VFX and the storytelling was interesting..Mainly focus to the local audiences which make them understand. Yogi Babu comedy was so funny and entertaining as usual

Negative: Rakul and SK love story seems off and very fast forward.. Could have show them better in natural and romantic way.

A. R. Rahman music was lack for me for few songs except for Ayalaa,Vera Level Sago and Suro Suro .. I never blame A. R. Rahman sir for his music but I feel he can compose better than this just like 2.0 and Cobra .The director should consider A. R. Rahman sir to bring the best music especially with this kinda film..I also expected romantic track and credit title song but unfortunately it's not in the album..

Overall the movie was great and much more better than other films.

Sci-fi Film Silently Spoken Global Issue
prithiviramthirupathy16 January 2024
#Ayalaan

Good Sci-fi Fantasy Alien Film silently spoken/picturised Local, National, World Politics altogether. Good Content with powerful Social Message.

It told us 'Earth is not only humans but also for other living beings. Earth is the part of this universe. Protect Nature and the Planet.'

Reminded: Methane/Hydrocarbon kind of Project and its effects. When we destroy the environment/nature, how it impacts. When an Alien looks friendly, how would it be.

SivaKarthikeyan Bro and all the other artists gave their good contributions. Director Ravikumar gave his best work. He spent almost 7 years on this project and various challenges faced by the whole team. Finally it was released and received good reviews.

Great applause to PhantomFX Team. Nearly 4500 VFX Shots. Definitely First class work. Rahman sir with his best background score. Abarivu Masters interesting stunts. Cameraman Nirav Shah sir again provided interesting visuals like 2.0.

Good Dialogues. Comedies worked out well. Big Challenge for Editor Ruban, he gave his best work.

Predictable Story, script written 7 years back, Template Type were some drawbacks. But an interesting screenplay, VFX, SFX, BGM overcame all the drawbacks. Standing applause to the entire team for their great work.

Kids and family audiences greatly enjoy the film. Perfect Family Entertainment without any smoking - drinking scenes and adult contents. Enjoy this decent film in Theatres.

Nearly 7 years of waiting came to an end. Hope it hits another blockbuster for SivaKarthikeyan. Increase the shows in many Theatres.

I'm giving 10 star for Team's great efforts, presented as a decent family entertainment, PhantomFX's Works, Ravikumar Patience to complete the entire project successfully by crossing many hurdles.

Extremely good
venilasamy14 January 2024
After a long time movie which can be watched along with kids and family. Tamil needs more movie like this.

No bad words, there is no negative shade dialogues, No bloods, No drugs. Fun to watch. SK should make these kind of movies going forward. After maanadu just this movie came from the theatre with some level positive mindset. Everywhere comedians keep assuring it's an easy going movie so that you can watch peacefully when you with kids. I know there are some logical flaws despite of that still I am happy to give 10 as one recent days movie giving assurance you can your kids also to theatre. Tamil movies almost last 10 15 years totally forgot to make kids friendly movies. Thanks to SK.

Ayalaan is a captivating sci-fi film that seamlessly blends stunning visual effects with heartfelt storytelling. Sivakarthikeyan shines in his role as Ashok, a young man with a unique ability to communicate with aliens. The CGI is impressive, bringing the alien world to life with authenticity. The film's well-paced narrative, coupled with witty dialogues, keeps the audience engaged. A. R. Rahman's musical score complements the visuals, enhancing the emotional impact. Ayalaan is a must-watch for sci-fi enthusiasts, offering a universal tale of connection and cooperation across different worlds.

This rating if from my child and from me it would be a 7/10.
chandrashaalini8 February 2024
This movie is definitely a must-watch if you have children. Even my 4-year-old son was engaged in this movie and came home talking about tattoo the alien. Personally, I truly appreciate the effort put into this movie. Yes, the movie was predictable, and the scenes could be better with more emotional development. It felt real; 'tattoo felt real', and that is a big WIN. KUDOS, looking forward to more children-friendly movies in the future.

Now a rating from my 7-year-old daughter: 1. I love the part where the alien was so kind and helped people.

2. The movie is so nice, and I wish there were more movies like this so I could go watch a Tamil movie in theatre.

3. If I see an alien, I'm going to hug him and say, don't be scared.

From, A family in Malaysia.
