S1.E14 - Entertaining but i dont like the Agenda in this Episode [8/10]

Warning: Spoilers
(S1. E14) My Live Reaction / Review for The Good Doctor Season 1 Episode 14 ''She''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 7/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. The reactions of Shaun with the trans girl are priceless haha. The new female surgeon seems kinda rude, the way she talked to Dr. Browne is awful. Ok the new surgeon is really annoying, I hope she wont be in the show for many episodes. Dr. Andrews and his wife want to have kids but they cant, that's so sad. I kinda hate Dr. Andrews but it still sucks. Could this new neighbor be a friend for Shaun? That would be nice. So Dr. Andrews is the reason they cant have kids, that's sad. Overall this episode was good and I enjoyed it. My rating is 8/10.

Don't hear that political viewers

Warning: Spoilers
Well, I'm here for the balancer, for the first i'm not LGBT supporter, but i still enjoy this episode so much, not this series best like pilot episode, but still solid 8 from me, and like other episodes, this series always offer something new, and for this episode Shaun and Kenny development is amusing and makes me curious to see what happen next..

And well i like dr. Reznick as new antagonist here, because dr. Melendez is soo nice character now not like on early episodes, eventhough is lil' stereotyping with her being blonde girl but i still like it.p

No "Transface" this time
archpllc8 February 2018
Great writing again expertly covers very difficult subject matter in this latest network series episode titled "She". Doctor Shawn Murphy played by Freddie Highmore is so convincing as an Asperger's adult learning to understand his world view of life and living fully in it, I can hardly stand to wait for the next episode. Credit to the producers for actually casting a transgender actress to play a transgender character is groundbreaking casting for American network television. As everyone can see about a half a dozen user reviews so far gave this episode only a score of 1 out of 10. To bad some of these other reviews are so blinded by their ignorance and prejudice for the condition of Gender Dysphoria especially in children, they couldn't get anything out of this wonderful episode. I hope this groundbreaking show continues to show the courage to present the relevant social issues affecting health care in our time. Job well done goes to "The Good Doctor"

Stupid
Arne_F14 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So we have this autistic doctor. Basically the rainman of medicine, the Beth Harmon of surgery. He knows literally everything about medicine. I buy that. Great.

He gobbles up new information about medicine wherever he can. Memorizes everything. Reads every scientific journal he can get his hands on. I buy that. Great.

And now in this episode we are being told that he has never heard of trans people. The all-knowing demigod of medicine has never heard of trans people! This is so insultingly stupid I dont know what to say. In none of his classes, in none of the studies he reads, in none of his practice this ever came up? Really?

Absolutely nonsensical. And obviously we owe this to a political agenda. So thanks for that.

Still on a steady good pace but expected more screen time for "Kenny"
Aktham_Tashtush6 February 2018
So the series is still going good,, here they introduced a two cases competition which leveled up the tense/drama mix.

Last episode they introduced Chris D'Elia as "Kenny" the new neighbor , and i was really excited because as i said on the premiere the show needs a bit more of that witty comedy, and Chris D'Elia is an amazing Oh, a genius comedy actor who aces the quick spontaneous on point comedy ,, but here he barely had two scenes where he says "Okay amigo" and "like Justine and Selena ,they don't fit together",, i mean come on,, he needs to be more involved in Shaun's life , or like he get sick and go to the hospital or something,, he will make the show a bit more loose and give it more likability.

Also this episode they introduced another character Dr. Reznick ,, that's nice i liked the sense of "if it's fine to say it" cat fight with Dr. Browne ,, i liked where it could go,, Oh well here's an idea ,, why not make the character of "Kenny" have his episode in the hospital , and then maybe keeping him involved by dating Dr. Reznick !!! Oh that would be cool.

Anyway, you guys keep it up,, and again a bit of laughs are needed please.

Trans Representation!
mishaagolubev25 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode does a great job portraying trans people. It was hard to watch it at first, but as Shaun begins to understand the character it begins to get really nice. The fact that a trans person was cast as a trans character was another plus. It was interesting to see the interaction between the grandmother and the parents.

My only complaint is the introduction of Dr. Reznick. Shes presented as a generic mean girl, and the fight/competition cliche is overused.

Great episode.
lot4824 February 2022
I'm just starting to watch this show and I understand that this was aired just a few years ago, and although trans folks have been around since always, I understand that this had not become a mainstream topic until maybe one or two years ago.

I think it was a little odd that Dr. Murphy was not familiar with trans folks. I mean, I've never gone to medicine school, but I'm sure that the subject has to pop up at some point since it also has a lot to do with public health and things of that nature. However, I believe the writers did good telling the story of this little girl and the people around who loved and cared for her; idk if there's trans folks in the crew but it was lovely to see a trans actress playing this character.

To those whining about some «political agenda»: don't. How come every time we see the same boring ass heterosexual stories being told you seem to be OK with it? Even though not everyone identifies as heterosexual. But all of the sudden, one show that has put almost 90 episodes out there dedicates one single episode to telling the story of a character who happens to be part of the diversity and then it becomes «a political agenda». Grow a pair and grow up!

Bad turn
wengroves7 February 2018
Loved this show since its beginning. But the new character, Dr. Reznick, and the light doctors are played here has me probably dropping it from my weekly viewing list. Sick of bringing in the bimbo blonde "mean girl" on every show for a cat fight. Such an over used tired storyline of pitting the decent doctor against the crappy competitive one and patients being harmed in the fray. ZZZzzzz Been there done that...over and over. I literally couldn't even stand to watch while she was on screen. Not what this show has been about up to this point, and not the direction I care to watch it go in. Bye Good DR... It was a good run.

The Good Doctor takes a turn for the worse
jmerlin-452-22883322 February 2018
This show started out great, with highly intriguing writing and a style that felt like an authentic House 2.0.

Since then we've been bombarded by progressivism laced nonsense dialogue that was completely meaningless to the plot or anything else, and then a sudden and totally unfitting dive into meaningless drama halfway through the season that just made you want to go back to the pilot and wish they didn't screw up something with so much potential.

This is now official, explicit, and overt politicization. People don't turn to entertainment for more political brainwashing and lecturing. This isn't welcome, and this is the final straw for this series.

It's sad to see an entire season of a modern TV show that fails to live up to the pilot. I'll happily remember The Good Doctor as the only TV show that I've ever seen that lasted for a mere single episode.

Don't do this again
eltiron5 March 2020
I'm (or was) a great fan of Grey's Anatomy, but I slowly lost interest, because they so agressively pushed the PC agenda. And now The Good Doctor starts the same crap. Just. Don't.

Don't know if we can continue watching this.
bigjump_air28 April 2021
This used to my wife and mines favourite show but this has gone way off the rails. Now the show is forcing its political agenda instead of telling a great story with its characters.

Woke agenda spoils another series. Well done.
pauljonathanking-0031923 August 2022
I will probably watch a few more episodes, partly because I am also autistic and partly because I want to see if the woke agenda push goes the way of the dodo.

That said, this episode really takes the series in the wrong direction and makes Shore look like a patsy.

This episode deals with a couple of difficult issues and deals with them very poorly.

"She" (#1.14)
aaronredis8 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It is rather safe to say that I have been really enjoying "The Good Doctor," but it seems to be in a rough spot lately. I hope that it can pull itself out of this tough place and improve because I would be really sad to let go of this show. It seems that, ever since the mid-season finale -- "Sacrifice" (#1.10) -- the show has lost its footing. This is especially apparent with the most recent two episodes. What is with the sudden need to push a political agenda? This is coming from someone who is liberal: I don't like it. At all. Just stick to good storytelling! It never hurt anybody! I am not the only one who is getting turned off by this. Several others have shared how much it has bothered them, too.

Take the previous episode as an example: Shaun accused a Muslim patient of being terrorist. All that could go through my head was this: Seriously? Seriously?! Are you even serious right now?!

Religion has absolutely NO basis on whether someone is a terrorist or not. You would think that someone as intelligent as Shaun would understand this but apparently I was wrong. This was extremely offensive and I could see how many would be inclined to give up then and there, but I let it go at that. Then comes "She" . . . and I thought it could not get any worse.

Shaun refuses to use Quinn's preferred pronoun after several occurrences of being corrected. He doesn't understand it. Yes, I get that. Many don't and many won't because they will not look beyond what they don't understand. But not only does he neglect from respecting Quinn's wishes, he berates her by, as Dr. Jared Kalu says, "playing 20 questions." Couldn't Shaun just suspend disbelief for a mere 10 minutes and do his job? Does he have no filter?

I am hating how the writers are casting Shaun in this role of unwavering discrimination. In the first of half of the season, he has made unbelievable progress -- yes, unbelieve progress! Why destroy that? Why are we back-tracking? It is counterproductive. Instead of developing Shaun's character, which they were doing so well with at first, they have seem to have decided to return to the Shaun that was left behind months ago. Come on!

The best way to sum this episode up is by using Dr. Morgan Reznick's own words, which were: "Everyone has an agenda. Sometimes it's conscious, sometimes it's not, but it's always there."

It's clear that the writers were not even trying to hide it. And speaking of Morgan, I already strongly dislike her character. She made it very clear that she has no time for friends and is only there to do one thing: block everyone out and only look at medicine as if it is a game. She is not afraid to undermine others, either. She can go and I would not at all be bothered. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Morgan!

Also, I am impressed by how little of an appearance Kenny made. (Someone else also mentioned this and I am as equally impressed.) He was in nearly every promotional image, and despite that, he was barely there. I am looking forward to seeing more of him, though!

In the end, I am disappointed. I love this show. I really do. But if it continues this way, I am out. I give "She" a 6.1/10, and that is me being magnanimous.

I agree with Aaron's review, although I feel as though he is being extremely generous!
hellensteins8 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Aaron pretty much said all that I thought about this episode of "The Good Doctor." I, too, have been really enjoying it but it lately seems to be struggling.

I HATE this sudden need to push an agenda. Why? What is the point? I am as progressive as they come and it still really bothers me. Not everyone is willing to understand many of these scenarios they are putting forth on television...ESPECIALLY transgender patients. The majority here came to bash the LGBT community, while they did nothing. That bothers me. I do, however, understand how someone with more traditional views could be turned off by this rather liberal agenda. It is blatantly obvious. Seriously. If you missed it you were not paying attention.

That does not mean that everyone can bash transgender patients, though. They are not confused, you just don't understand because you don't want to. Sorry. Simple as that. I know most of you will bash me for saying that, but it's the truth and the truth is never pretty. There are people like Quin all around you. You are breathing their same air. You are existing in the same world. It is not hard to understand. They are your neighbors, coworkers, friends, and possibly family. How can one thing about them matter so much? Look beyond and see the good in people!

I, like Aaron, will not be watching if it continues down this route. A series can advocate rights without pushing an agenda. I've seen it done before. While this episode did argue both sides, it was clear which was more favored. Not everyone is going to tolerate that.

I give this episode a 1/10. It really was that bad. Go ahead and look at my other ratings. I am not afraid to give out 10s, I like to be fair.

And the previous episode????? Shaun calling someone a racist because of her religion????? Yeah. Also just as bad. I hope they clean their act up and QUICK!
