- The events of the night before play out for Home Secretary Julia Montague and her Specialist Protection Officer David Budd.
- After the latest and deadliest bomb attack on Julia, David is questioned by the police and is comforted by estranged wife Vicky, who takes him in after a suicide attempt. Anne Sampson identifies civil servant Tahir as the bomber, killed in the blast, and his superior Rob McDonald is hauled in for questioning. David is suspicious that CCTV of Julia's meeting with Longcross has gone missing and is invited to interview Nadia, the unwilling suicide bomber from the train, but she is unable to link her terrorist husband to Tahir or any other suspects shown to her.—don @ minifie-1
- Budd's colleague Knowles and Julia's PR man Mahmood were killed in the blast, she is in intensive care. Acting Home Secretary Travis transfers responsibility for investigating the bombings back to Counter Terrorism Command. The police suspect Mahmood was responsible for the bombing, although CCTV is not conclusive that it came from the briefcase. Budd falls under suspicion for not spotting the bomb when he spoke to Mahmood. DCI Sharma and DS Rayburn also search his property. The next day, the PM announces that Montague's death. CCTV from the House of Commons shows adviser Rob MacDonald handing Mahmood the briefcase. Before MacDonald is interviewed by police, Travis tells him to stick to their prepared story. Budd's attempts suicide fails because the bullets in his hidden pistol were replaced with blanks. In Montague's hotel he discovers the security footage was doctored to delete Longcross's visit. On orders from Sampson, he and Rayburn ask suicide bomber Nadia who supplied the explosives for the foiled train attack but she identifies as bomb-maker none of the pictures she is shown, including Mahmood.—KGF Vissers
