Should have a higher rating

Warning: Spoilers
I'm guessing the reason this episode has a low rating is because, aside from the fact that's it's basically an all-female cast, the setting was a party at Drake's house, and Drake never actually appeared in the episode. This is part of the reason I enjoyed this episode though. Throughout the whole episode I was worried I was going to have to be subjected to a pointless, annoying, self-indulgent cameo by one of the most overrated artists of our generation, but, thankfully, Drake turns out to be on tour and isn't even at the party at all. This happy conclusion, plus the fact that we get to see some classic Darius, who is probably my favorite character, makes this episode a solid entry in season 2 of Atlanta.

it's all fake

1. Van goes to drake's party 2. Van steals clothes 3. Van walks home

The rating on this episode is definitely uncalled for. It's got that classic absurdist theme that Atlanta has pushed for while adding its own twist. The episode may not be explosively funny but it's still got its humor. Its surprisingly complex exploration of social media, groupie culture, and beauty standards are well done in this short episode. I found the whole party concept funny that it's consisted of people who come to see Drake and cling on to him like flies. They don't actually care if he's there or not since they just want a photo with a fake Drake cardboard. The superficiality of Instagram and how it can make you look happier than you actually are is something that's been beaten to death but I like how the way they touched on the subject in this episode - as an object of competition between Earn and Vanessa in their complicated relationship.

I love how the episodes are relatable - even for the non-black audiences but still maintain the unique voice. Really great season so far.

AFTER THE TEDDY PERKINS DEBACLE, YOU GET THE SENSE THAT THE SHOW HAS RUN OUT OF MATERIAL -BUT DO NOT BE PERTURBED, THE THC GUMMIE BEARS ARE PLENTIFUL. IF YOU GET ME HIGH AND GIVE ME ZAZIE BEETZ TO STARE AT FOR A WHOLE EPISODE, I WILL FORGET THE WHOLE PENDERGRAS THING. SO I GUESS WE ARE EVEN. FAIR EXCHANGE, NO ROBBERY. RIGHT??? I WILL GIVE YOU 3 EXTRA POINTS FOR THIS 4 RATED CRAP OF A STONED EPISODE, AND WE PRETEND THE TP DEBACLE NEVER HAPPENED. I THOUGHT THIS SHOW WAS VERY CREATIVE UP UNTIL THE BACK TO BACK MISHAPS NOW. YOU BRIBED ME FOR THIS EPISODE, SO LET'S JUST MOVE ON.....

OH, ONE MORE THING. I WAS THE FIRST ONE TO DISCOVER THAT DRAKE WAS AN ICE DETAINEE.

This epi deserves a much better rating

Warning: Spoilers
It almost seems a bit sexist that this episode has roughly two whole stars fewer than the other episodes featuring the "main characters"... Hey, don't get me wrong, I love Earn, Al and Darius as much as anybody and do not at all begrudge the ratings they are pulling in. BUT, I am also loving every scene that Vanessa is in and think it was righteous of Donald Glover to write an episode where Zazie Beetz (okay, I admit it, I am in love with her) gets to really stretch out and shine. So I really enjoyed this episode, as I did the Helen epi where Zazie gets to unleash her fluent German on us, which, I'm not gonna lie, was sexy as hell.

Anyways, the girls night out of Champagne Papi was an excellent series palate refresher and I only wish my 10 stars could move the meter a little higher. Oh, and the Nadine (Gail Bean) freak-out subplot was hilarious. Trust trusty Darius to ride in to save the dumb girl in distress. Perfect.

Underrated episode
peacedisturber28 June 2021
To those giving this a lower rating.... I feel like you maybe don't get the show. It is exploring the experiences of these characters and their place in society, right?? Ok, we're all on the same page then, yeah? Cool. This episode explores the concepts of meaningless "social climbing" parties through black women's perspectives...they did one where they explored it as a couple. This one being about the girls and Darius was a good one. It was character and world building.

The only thing that I could think is that there are some sexist people here who couldn't stand the episodes focus to be off the lead men in this series. They get soooo many episodes already. What's the harm in having an episode dedicated to the ladies??? The quality didn't drop at all. That's why I am left to assume that the people who didn't like this episode need to examine their sexism.

A lot of people complained about this on Reddit saying it was unwatchable. I disagree I thought it was a funny episode that highlights vans issues with her friends and her own life. While I also loved how the brought Darius in the episode. I didn't find it cofsuing st all this show is pretty simple and easy to understand lol.

Ontario in the house
wmarkdyer24 September 2020
The first season had an episode that featured Justin Bieber. This one is a Drake's house. Will there be a episode in the third season that revolves around the Weeknd?

higher rating team!
rannasgo20 April 2024
Just two things to say:

(1) Danielle (2) Deadwyler;

For the first time, observing the especific grade of this episode, I came to the thought that maybe the IMDB ratings are the representation of a white point of view towards a popular black tv show. Just the thought, no basis.

Maybe if you didn't like it, maybe you didn't understand: it is a softly criticism to our modern structure of "Society of the Spectacle" and racism through the perspective of this four amazing black actresses.

And they accomplished it even "without" Donald Glover. Don't get me wrong, I love Donald "Barnes" Glover.

"Drake is Mexican".

This episode clearly should have a higher rating so I'm overcompesating.

Boring and pointless episode!
toomeytheboss28 April 2018
This episode is not funny and is very confusing. To be honest, this episode doesn't need to be in this season.

Other between the bad jokes it is a fun episode.

Champagne Papi
Prismark109 December 2018
This season of Atlanta has been less of an ensemble piece and instead chosen to concentrate on one or two characters at a time.

Champagne Papi concentrates on Van who is getting ready for a New Year's Eve party with the girls.

However this is going to be an exclusive event, Drake is going to be in the house.

The girls land in the middle of nowhere, need to give a secret code to get in the van which is then driven to some exclusive house, although it is a residential house.

One of Van's friend's starts to freak out, Van gets bothered with a male partygoer and there is no sign of Drake. It looks like he might have ducked out of the party.

This is a pretty low key episode. Atlanta does not always go for laughs but it does make you wonder if the makers just knocked out an episode that had a predominantly female cast but cared less about the quality.

The least enjoyable episode of the least enjoyable
zezinhosilvalima16 October 2021
This episode is off note. First, I'm a Brazilian, and the man known as "champagne papi" treated our country like trash some years ago on Rock in Rio. Van's episodes, for me and a lot of fans, have been sufferable for its reasons. We've been contemplated with this unnecessary episode after two masterpieces on a row. So, it's kinda dull, and didn't worked for me, or my wife, or the friends that watched it. Let's move to the next one.
