Well, it was different at least...

Well, this movie was different, I will say that much. But I am getting ahead of myself here...

I was given the chance to sit down and watch this 2018 movie from writer Hitoshi Ishikawa and director Kôta Yoshida. Sure, I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into here with "Love Disease" (aka "Ai no yamai") as I had never heard about it prior to sitting down to watch it.

But it being a Japanese movie was actually more than sufficient to make me give the movie a go.

The storyline was unique and different, let me just be the first to say that. You don't really know what director Kôta Yoshida is going to be throwing at you around the upcoming bend. At that accomplishment, I will say that the movie stood out well, because it wasn't at all predictable.

And the acting in the movie was quite good, especially by the lead actress.

However, there was just something the held the movie back in some way. I felt like the movie was just a bit too strange at times. It was from the events that transpired on the screen and way the characters were behaving. It just felt a bit way too far fetched. Sure, it was entertaining enough for its quirkiness, but it was just not overly realistic.

My overall impression with "Love Disease", however, was one that was bland. The movie failed to be outstanding, nor is it a movie that I think will remain in my memory for a very long time. My rating of "Love Disease" lands on a very mediocre five out of ten stars.
