Controversial..
Ahmedshebl2224 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I never wrote a review before but I thought I should write this one. So, at some part of this episode it is somehow mentioned being muslim has to do something with being a terrorist.. it really broke my heart to see this series that I really like go through this kind of stuff. I know she turns out to be innocent in the end but just the idea of it makes me feel disgusted & I am really sad with what the world had turned into.. Just hope the series sticks to that medical stuff & stays away from religion cuz it's a personal right to everyone living in this world..... Also I gave it an 8 because I liked the episode in general & I just don't judge people like they do..

Not good but ok

In this episode we continue on with Claire's sexual harassment story. Getting my thoughts together I actually kinda a little hate her for what she did to Dr Kalu. The hospital lacks of support to the women who were assaulted was disgusted and its reason for money makes it worst. Everyone on the board really protected this guy from sexual harassment claims but when Dr Kalu comes in wanting his job back with the threat of a racism claim is really bad??? Dr Andrews and the Asian board lady were completely awful for what they. But all of those could've been avoid if Claire fought harder, damn it she had a WITNESS. If you remember the sexual harassment happened while Claire was treating a supposedly sleeping person. Claire could've brought her up with her claim. She had a fighting chance, heck a witness is basically an automatic win. But she didn't even after Dr Kalu fought for her she still didn't do it. That's the part I hate. She really let her friend fall and didn't help fight for him. He went out of his way for her and it seemed like she didn't care. In the last episode she just continued on and didn't mention his firing once or talked to him.

Caution: This episode contain contemporary subject matter
iPhysicist28 September 2018
Before watching this episode, I was surprised by the bipolar ratings from 1 to 10. Now that I've watched it, I believe this show delves into contemporary issues where many people have sensitivities.

Hence, don't watch this show if you are sensitive or opinionated about lying, spousal abuse, sexual harassment, prejudice (towards Muslims), or Autism.

Otherwise, this is an excellent drama that is well written and executed. It is intelligent, relevant, and provides food for thought.

A true review (read the TL;DR)
p_ypanda25 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I've never written a review before, but the first time I felt a need to make some comments. I'm honestly shocked by the reviews of this episode so far. I think they seem to misinterpret the intentions of the writers. The writers, evident in prior episodes, seem to focus on the issues that are prevelant in society currently: racism, gender equality, the harmful stereotypes made about some religions, and so on. I'm actually pleasantly surprised to see a tv show hit on such topics (in someways, it reminds me of Master of None), and for the most part, I think they do a good job of highlighting these issues. Here's why

In this episode lying is definitely discussed, but it's not as if it's one sided like only men lie. Shawn clearly assumes that Claire is a liar, the mother who tries to kill her husband is a liar, and the women who presumably is making chemical weapons is lying. All people lie, but is lying bad necessarily? The episode seems to really hint at this in the case of the Muslim and the mother; sometimes it's better to lie to protect someone than tell the truth.

Secondly, the episode points out the racial struggles with Jared. Yes, racism is prevalent and often times, people are far more prejudice than they let on (notice what the Muslim woman said?). However, as Dr. Andrews points out, falsely accusing someone of that isn't really making a step forward in the case of racial equality. It's a difficult battle, and caution is needed.

Thirdly, the episode stands up for the negative ways women have been treated for millennia. There is a clear double standard prevelant in society and noticeably pointed out when Claire is first assaulted by Dr. Coyle. She's clearly hurt by the way the issue is smilingly ignored/avoided. Thus, she decided to find people to talk about. It reminds me of the #metoo movement and in some ways, I hope this challenges women to speak out or find people that they can confide in about the horrible ways they have been treated.

I'm honestly moved by tv that engages with real issues. This doesn't mean that the episode is free from problems (I mean would they really not ask Coyle to do the surgery?), but I just want to clear the misconceptions about the intentions of the writers that I perceive they are portraying.

TL;DR this episode engages with real issues evident in society. I think they do a relatively good job of discussing issues, while leaving people to think about it themselves.

Great episode
agerson2430 January 2018
This was a great episode, I don't understand the low ratings. I don't know who or how but people keep giving all these episodes a really low rating before they even air and it is really annoying to look on IMDb and see the user reviews for an episode are like 4 and it doesn't even broadcast for another week. IMDb needs to fix that because otherwise these ratings lose whatever value they have.

I think they handled this episode very well.
lynkhome8 April 2024
I understand that people were upset that assumptions were made due to the fact that one of the patients was Muslim. However, having all of the doctors treat her with perfect consideration would not have been realistic.

They did a great job of allowing her to tell her side of prejudicial treatment. It also makes sense that somebody with autism could misconstrue the facts and put it together the way Shawn did.

Taking away all portrayals of prejudicial or racial treatment from shows and movies is just as shortsighted and ignorant as taking away/rewriting all of the books that contain references or descriptions of slavery.

It is an ugly part of our history and an ugly part of our present. But that doesn't mean we can just make it go away and pretend it didn't happen. That won't help anything. What we should be doing is focusing on how far we have come and keep pushing forward. Let people see how change can happen.

Islam and terrorism
ahmedtakeshy25 August 2019
Why is there always a relationship between Islam as a religion and terrorism? The Muslim girl in the episode was linked to being a Muslim and a hypocrite because she drinks alcohol and she's a terrorist teacher. What's the point of this bad connection? I really hate things like that. Between 19:50 and 20:35.

Dehumanization of Muslims
abood_alhboob21 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's disappointing that the first time Muslims were mentioned throughout the whole show. They were linked to terrorism. This false representation of Muslims is part of the reason why it's hard for us to live without prejudice or hate.

caution N.2
themaxmagnus11 October 2018
I agree with a previous post. this show is a box filled with propaganda on spousal abuse, sexual harassement, transgenderism ect... the show itself is only a vector for the messages, which it's exactly what makes it bad. all characters are stereotypes, the beautiful woman in career who doesn't want to have kids (always presented in a positive way) , the mean doctor who wants to have sex with subordinates ( always bad) the nice black woman who refuses the mean doctor aggresion (and wants him fired and never have a job again, in ase you weren't paying attention the previous 10 episodes) and so on ... how this stuff can be considered "excellent drama" is a mistery to me

No words.
Let me start by saying that I have been enjoying this show.

But now . . . I have no words. Just. Ugh. WOW. This episode was awful. It really was bad.

I finished this episode feeling offended. I am appalled. I really am. I can't believe a show would stoop to such lows and make such a statement with such strong connotation and present such hasty generalizations that feed into the already altered views of today's society.

Needless to say I will not be watching anymore. I'm not going to watch a TV show that makes me feel personally attacked. TV is supposed to be an escape. This is just absurd.

Anyone who paid attention to this episode will no full well what I am referring to when I say all of the above. I can't believe people find this entertaining.

I'm very shaken up right now. And that's all I can really say.

Unbelievable racist!
ahmedalsalah2 September 2021
The beginning of the series was really beautiful,The work was wonderful without those disgraceful messages, linking Islam with terrorism has no connection with the series or reality!! All the patients in the series were presented in a way that the viewer sympathizes with, even the criminal!! But Islam is different.

No serious internal debate on actions making everyone involved in some manner worse, including society as a whole. Cool story bro.
