Prior to bandaging a severe injury caused by a leghold trap, one would remove clothing from the area, such as his sock.
Tweezers would be useless in removing a large hunk of metal from one's foot.
A leghold trap would not leave a piece of steel in his foot. It would clamp down on, and crush his foot, but once removed, it would not leave a piece of steel in his foot.
