Ignoring Science
dncorp16 September 2018
Science says the Earth is running out of the Resources to continue using Missiles, Solid Rocket Boosters to get to Space.

Sir Arthur C. Clarke was asked when the Space Elevator would become a reality. He answered, "Probably about 50 years after everybody quits laughing."

At the Space Elevator 2nd International Conference held in Santa Fe in 2003, he had become more optimistic, updating his estimate to "10 years after everybody stops laughing ... and I think they have stopped laughing." - Sir Arthur C. Clarke Author, Mathematician, Inventor, Undersea Explorer, Science Writer, Science Fiction Writer (2001 A Space Odyssey, and many sequels, with the direct assistance of NASA Scientists)

Sean Penn buffed up nicely for this
yard_boy16 September 2018
Otherwise, not much to this long-hyped premiere. Yes, we met a few key characters and they've been set up as American heroes, yet flawed, if not fragile. My biggest challenge was with the predictability. Considering this episode's events, what's next seems clear.

Separation
Prismark108 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I have no idea why Sean Penn had to spend so much time in the gym for this series. He is not even going to Mars.

Penn plays Tom Hagerty who was destined to be the mission commander for the first mission to Mars. He was replaced and now watching on television as the crew of the Providence 1 get ready for launch.

An exciting beginning throws a curveball. Like the Challenger space shuttle, the rocket explodes during lift off.

The series is set in the near future 2033. The mission is run by a private company Vista in conjunction with NASA. This might explain one of the first things Laz Ingram the CEO of Vista does is give a bits of legal papers to the family of the dead astronauts.

It is for Hagerty to provide support for the bereaved families, he picked the astronauts for the mission.

The first episode came across as a slow moody piece. It hints at various baggage in Hagerty's life hence why he probably got replaced.

Ingram is straight out of corporate headquarters. She is afraid to talk to the families and realizes that the incident will lead to a whole host of issues. Lawsuits to Congress hearings.

The First is less about going to space, it is about the fraught journey in just getting to the launch pad again after the incident.

Why
deadheadguy7 October 2018
This show says it is about them going to mars yet its the end of season one and there is no one on Mars and it sounded great like a good scifi but real premise instead we get a drama about people and politics. This show sucks dont promise a great idea like people going to mars and make how about peoples home problems and all thoer BS. Going to Mars for the first time is a great dhow idea now how about we go to mars and forget the stupod nonsense in this show

Very disappointing waste of time

Warning: Spoilers
Let's re-hash Challenger as a Mars mission, and then write a load of hand-wringing disguised as Science Fiction. How does writing like this get into a series? Hulu dropped the ball on this one.
