- Situated in Prague, a 20-year-old Vietnamese named Song, hoped for a better future in Europe. But now in a Vietnamese district in Prague, he is trapped in a marijuana grow house and has life of a modern slave. Police rounds up the place. Song runs away on the rooftop of a condo building in a nearby district where he breaks down. Mr. Rypar (78) lives alone. He is fond of the old times, living in a strong opposition to modern world. Rypar goes up on the roof and meets Song standing on the very edge of the roof crying and the story begins.
- On the Roof is situated in Prague but such story may easily happen in any city in Europe or North America that attracts immigrants and is big enough to shelter stories we never get to know. Under the roofs there are little worlds self-governed by their inhabitants.

Mr. Rypar, 75, lives alone. He is fond of the old times and in a strong opposition to modern world.
A new young couple moves in the apartment opposite Rypar's. Rypar goes up on the roof and meets Song standing on the very edge of the roof ,crying. Rypar intervenes, preventing Song to jump. He takes him to his place.
Song only admits to be homeless and illegal in the country. Rypar feels little empathy but Song is very sick so he lets him stay over night. In the morning he's gone but in a hopeless situation outside he returns. Rypar offers him to stay for some days and do the housekeeping. SYNOPSIS Anna's boyfriend Marek is kicked out. Rypar gets an idea, if Song marries Anna he could remain in the country legally. The mission is set up. The hook up is led also through Facebook for which Rypar has to buy a computer and learn how to use it.
Rypar discovers an article about Song's incident. He locks him in a room and calls the cops, Song tries to explain what actually happened, Rypar eventually believes it and calls the police off.
This makes them tighter. Rypar reveals his wife and son left with another man and haven't communicated for thirty years.
Rypar and Song set up a perfect date for Song and Anna on the rooftop. Anna's boyfriend Marek comes back and spoils it.
Song finds Rypar's son Martin on Facebook. To make him come back he writes him his father is dying.
For the very first time Rypar meets and gets to talk to Anna in person and learns that she's Russian, hasn't got the EU citizenship and therefore is of no use for Song. This plan is lost? Is there a plan B?
