Amazing season but love & hate the ending
austintrose3 August 2022
I disagree with all the negative reviews - I thought the concept of season 2 was fantastic and it was full of twists and turns. The penultimate episode was the best...the last episode is a bit slow.

It was really new to see a "scorned woman" shamelessly getting revenge in this way and actually succeeding in a lot of ways. I can see how some would judge her actions but I honestly think Simon deserved everything and when does the scorned woman ever get to win like this in real life?!

About the ending.... I definitely didn't see it coming and it was very compelling so I kind of liked it but I really was rooting for Gemma and wanted her to win in the end so I wasn't totally pleased. But I will not forget this show anytime soon! Well done.

Great series ruined by implausible ending
throwntosafety20 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
An otherwise compelling and watchable drama/thriller was ruined by a completely implausible character choice in the finale. We're supposed to buy that the brilliant Dr. Foster, whose career was nearly ruined in the first season by the mistaken notion that she had assisted her dying mother-in-law's suicide, would aim to assist her depressed ex-husband's suicide in such an obvious way? After she has successfully ruined Simon and thwarted his sinister plans to destroy her, she leaves him a supply of loaded syringes and some sort of liquid medication (possibly insulin), complete with handwritten instructions on exactly how to use them to kill himself. There were two likely outcomes to this decision: first, he follows her instruction. His dead body is discovered next to the medical paraphernalia all covered in her fingerprints that will be traced to her, and the note would leave no doubt that she intentionally gave him the syringes for him to use, immediately destroying her life and career and causing their son, Tom, to hate her forever. The second option is that Simon would have realized she stupidly handed him the tools to finally destroy her and instead of killing himself, called a suicide hotline and cry about how he was about to kill himself thanks to his helpful ex-wife, the doctor.

Instead, she changes her mind and rushes back to stop him, not out of realization of what a stupid thing she has done, but because it just wouldn't be fair to Tom, whom she supposedly cares about most of all. It is absurd that she would leave her sobbing, clearly traumatized (if not suicidal himself) son alone with her suicidal husband (who had already abducted him) while she first put the suicide kit in his hotel room, and then secondly left Tom alone in the car when she came back to talk her ex out of killing himself. No mother who had been what she had been through would leave their son alone. This was so stupid. Tom running away, after being ostracized by his friends and neglected/used as a pawn by both his parents, would have been a compelling enough ending. What a disappointment to an otherwise great show.

Great mini series

This was a great mini series every episode contributes to the story. No filler episodes at all. The story ends how it should in a way everything leads to it and I didn't see it coming.

Dr. Foster, as if written by the writers of Scandal
siegal-jonathan5 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
How did we go from the thoughtful, vindictive first season to this mess? The characters have no idea what to say to each other, have no idea why they're staying around, and there is no metaphor. There is just heavy reliance on irrational children, emotionally-guiding music, and the hail Mary of all last ditch efforts to capture the audience... the awkward, camera-directed speech.

One of the worst episodes of television ever?!
vanessa-299-54586714 May 2018
Season one was absolutely brilliant. What a thrilling show to watch. But season two is just a big mess. Ending with an absurd final episode that is in no way believable or entertaining. It was difficult to even sit through. It feels like season one and two were written by completely different people. Very disappointing. Should've stopped after a perfect first season.

A good walk spoiled.

How to make a pig's ear out of a silk purse! Initial series? Great, good writing, acting, story line etc, AND there was a fitting and conclusive ending. good work! leave it at that and let it take it's place in the ratings league. But, oh no a second series was a must!? And a crock of rooster! So contrived, unrealistic and desperate to cling on to (ratings?) A 15 year old boy ruling the roost? Give me a break! How the actors bought this script is beyond me. Know when you're on top, then stop.

Season 1 enjoyable, season 2 a waste of time

I watched season one with much pleasure. It was a story with a beginning and an end. I should have left it by that and so should the makers. They milked the story into a chaos of over dramatized crap not worth watching. Not the first time a sequel failed.

What the heck did I just watch?

Warning: Spoilers
One of the most absurd endings to a series, ever. AS IF a mother who loves her child and is NOT insane would sit there listening to his father telling him he would never see him again, and was planning on killing himself. AS IF anyone in their right mind- much less a doctor- would give their ex drugs to commit suicide. All that garbage about "not seeing this coming"?? Eye-rollingly stupid.

Pretty much every episode of season two was like a bad play written by high school drama students, and at times cringy AF. Suranne Jones is great, but I should have just watched the first season and left it at that.

There are stupid endings.. and then there's this.
alexandercl-9957521 December 2021
I totally concur with the others.. Season 2 should have never happened. And as if the first four Season 2 episodes weren't bad enough, the finale was total and utter rubbish. It was believable as an honest politician. Ugghhh.
