Dull!

I'm adding reviews for films I've seen that lack one, so here goes...

Told from the point of view of the new wife of a District Commissioner who is new to the country; set during a period of drought which the local 'witch doctor' is blaming on the 'white man' and starting up a revolt; on the plus side it's thankfully short and has some glimpses of local Kenyan life, but other than decent photography, all aspects of it's making are of 'amateur' status. Poor!

I saw the 2016 'restored' version by Renown Pictures recently shown on Talking Pictures; so it's new availability may lead to someone posting a more positive review? There is also a question as to the running time the version I saw ran about 41 min', this ties in with the listing of the film in Monthly Film Bulletin (Aug-55), however on the BBFC it's listed at 61 min' and the version I saw looks truncated.

interesting look at colonial Kenya

This gives an interesting look at Kenya, just after the outbreak of the Mau Mau uprising. The valiant district commissioner trying to do his best, even if his wife undermines him by asking the cook to make spaghetti.Whilst not a polished production I do not think that this in any way detracts from the historical importance of this film. You could see the end of Empire coming.
