When Priestley arrived in the Yukon, her host said the parka she was wearing was totally inadequate and he gave her a bright red, greasy, delightfully warm Canada Goose parka to wear. Every day she would wander along the frozen Yukon and Klondike Rivers and around Dawson City for several hours, always in the red parka. When she chatted with locals, often the first thing they would say was "How's the parka." It had a life of its' own.
Priestley's motto while making North of Blue was: Unencumbered by history, invent the impossible.
