A hearty opening film for Singapore's First Russian Film Festival!

Warning: Spoilers
Caught the premiere screening at Capitol Theatre in Singapore, and there wasn't much information about the film to find out more.

Hearing about the origins of the film and its behind-the-scenes conveyed its light-hearted humour, and the film surely delivered. The plot is very simple, as with its humour, but it's also a reminder on not to take life too seriously.

The beautiful storytelling by Zhili-byli thrives in more ways than one:
  • in conveying the stories of people who choose to live by the countryside rather than be displaced by relocating to a town/city
  • in encapsulating the captivating scenery and charm of the countryside
  • in drawing the balance of past and present, although the future of these towns carries a bleak undertone

Overall, a 6.75-7; definitely worth a watch to understand a little more about the Russian's way of life and the impact of globalisation/urbanisation on heritage.
