Yet another decent story ruined by poor storytelling
rubens_mtl5 December 2022
What is it with the Brits and poor storytelling??

This is yet another case of a British director who had a decent story in his hands but then tried to make his film look smarter than it is by unnecessarily obscuring the plot behind poor storytelling. In the art of filmmaking the consensus is that it is better to show than to tell. But this movie has chosen the "don't tell, don't show" approach. As said earlier this is most typical of British movies. Yes, filmmakers should avoid showing too much, but there is such a thing as showing too little, and no, don't gaslight viewers into thinking that they're not smart enough. I understood the story, but I do not appreciate it when the director stands between the story and the viewer.

Brooding, meditative, beautiful...

I really enjoyed this movie; a refreshing break from the mass of overly polished and VFX intensive films. It relies on its cast to carry us through and doesn't disappoint with an understated and hypnotic performance by the main character played by Jamie Robson. Wonderful, simple yet bold visuals that compliment the story without distracting from the other elements. A brave independent British film that we see less and less of these days. A rawness that reminds me of Nolan or Tarkovsky's early work. I hope the filmmaker and cast receive the praise and support they deserve as I look forward to seeing more form them. Bravo!
