- The story begins in a small family church. The church is run by the Reverend Shepard and his wife, Mrs. Shepard. But trouble rears its ugly head when a secret from the past starts causing issues in the present. It's only when the family acknowledges the problem that they are able to pull together, and with the strength of God and their church they are able to overcome their past and make it into their future.—Josiah McMiller
- REVEREND TOM SHEPARD is looking to start construction on the new addition to his family church when a familiar face enters his chapel. SHAUNA PARKS, a past lover, is now his new construction manager. Shauna tells him she just recently moved back into town on business. Reverend Shepard finds himself perplexed. Matters worsen when his wife MRS. LISA SHEPARD invites Shauna over for a home cooked meal. Unfortunately, the dinner is cut short when the Shepards' daughter, DONNA SHEPARD, calls with a pressing dilemma. Donna has found herself completely stranded at a local dive with no way of getting home. Shauna qualms the Shepards' fears. Shauna informs them that she is familiar with the area. She oversaw renovations to the dive earlier in the year. This peeks Reverend Shepard's interest. Reverend Shepard suspects Shauna's recollection might bear an element of falsehood. After they've safely retrieved their daughter Reverend Shepard confronts Shauna. He invites himself over for dinner, but this time at Shauna's abode. Reluctantly Shauna agrees. When Reverend Shepard begins grilling her about the inconsistencies in her story Shauna reveals that she's been lying. Shauna isn't a recent transplant. The truth of the matter is that she has been living in town for well over a year. She felt too embarrassed to confront Tom, but when Shauna's firm assigned her to his renovation project, she leaped at the chance. Lingering feelings give way and the two end up consummating their love. Meanwhile, Donna Shepard is experiencing her own relationships woes in regard to her on-again-off-again boyfriend DASHAWN WAYNE. DaShawn is a troubled young kid from the wrong side of the tracks. But he has recently graduated from committing petty misdemeanors to a potential grand felony. After DaShawn is nearly fingered in the brutal beating of a well-known drug dealer he is sent off to do community service at the Shepard's local church. There he is forced to admit his culpability and face the truth of his grievous crimes. DaShawn vows to make a change from that day on. During which time, Mrs. Shepard is greeted by her old friend from college, STACEY MAYE. They are quite the dynamic duo, complete polar opposites and yet seemingly able to bring the worse out in each other. As Stacey recounts her many adventures in New York, jumping from cab to cab, and man to man, Mrs. Shepard can't help, but feel unfulfilled. The life of a First Lady use to mean everything to her, but now it has become just another burden. Never one to miss an opening, Stacey offers Mrs. Shepard a quick fix. Something to aid her aching woes, in the form of a second-hand prescription. Faced with the decision on whether to indulge or decline, Mrs. Shepard takes her first step down a long spiral. Unbeknownst, to Stacey, Mrs. Shepard has a long and sorted history with addiction. Something that was only meant to be recreational, has now become an all-consuming lifestyle. Mrs. Shepard's family tries to intervene but sadly to no avail. Mrs. Shepard soon succumbs to the influence and falls gravely ill. Her family gathers around her comatose body, as she lies still in the hospital. Grief stricken, Stacey makes her way to her friend's hospice bed. She is racked with guilt. Stacey ask for forgiveness, and rejoices when her prayers are answered. Mrs. Shepard awakens. Life renewed. The Shepard family reflects on what is truly important to them. They decide the problems they've face maybe too big to take on their own. They soon realize they need to seek counsel.
