An accidental documentary
amanda-lafevers17 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The maker of this documentary was volunteering at a refugee camp when a little girl stepped in front of his camera and began talking about her family's flight from ISIS. A beautiful movie which touches the soul to show how the strength of the human spirit can overcome any enemy. This fiery little girl is proof that without strong women, a society will be buried and cannot survive. Women Kurdish fighters are a true testimony to the spirit of strong women who love their people.

Not easy
kosmasp17 March 2021
Life is not easy and this documentary is not easy to watch either. There are so many conflicts around the world that if you have not lived them or there, you might not be able to understand. Now of course one can read about them and their history - or you can also additionaly watch a movie about them, like this one at hand.

It shines a light on those who suffer most. It shows many sides and it really is gripping - not just because of the kids it portrays, but everything else it shows. There is a lot of culture related stuff that is shown and there is a lot of pain and suffering shown too. But there is always also the glimmer of hope - the strength and power of not giving up and fighting for what one deems to be right. Happiness may not be something sustainable for a long time ... but let's not be pessimistic. The documentary is especially important to those who don't understand why so many try to escape from where they were born ... until the situations change, sending people back because you think they are not in trouble or worth it, you are not contributing to a solution that works for everybody ... Heartfelt and powerful, if you can stomach it

" How can a person live without a homeland?"
sekerfahri28 March 2020
You will see how the Kurds are fighting for their homeland and culture in this documentary. This wasn't the first war which the Kurds faced and unfortunately won't be the last one either. This war was between barbaric and ruthless ISIS and freedom equality lover Kurds. During the war ISIS abducted a lot of women and killed thousands of innocent people in the region. Our story began after people started to fleeing the city of Kobani in Rojava. Evlin was just one of the thousands of the innocent little kid who escaped the ISIS brutality. Evlin is talking about the horrific life event that took before her eyes. Evlin became my little hero in this documentary. She is brave, smart and ready to sacrifice even her life for her homeland. After watching this little hero I understand that we are taking the freedom for granted. I really appreciate Apo W. Bazîdî by bringing to our home this great documentary.

An amazing film. Please go see it!

Truly, I am awestruck by this film. It is so moving and eye-opening and inspiring. To see something as massive as war through the eyes of a rambunctious, delightful eight-year old girl is so revelatory. At its core, this film is about the fundamentally human capacity for perseverance and hope. I did not expect to feel so hopeful after watching a documentary about the resistance movement, but this story is a powerful reminder of what dedicated people can accomplish together. Particularly women! Evlin is so charming and funny and wise. And thanks to Apo for bringing a story like this to western audiences. There are million reasons to go see and support this film!

Totally worth watching!

The film is very informative and gives a great insight into the horrible events in Kobane. The life of little Evlin shows how mature the children are and how strong the Kurdish women are. Great job to the director APO Bazidi! He did a very good job. I am proud of the Kurdish people and I thank all those who contributed to the film and I wish the families, their loved ones, every power in the world. BIJÎ BERXWEDANA YPG U YPJ!

Evlin belongs with all of us, as do her peers ❤

Your film is amazing. I had the fortune to watch it in a Kurdish Film Festival in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Like Evlin I started taking photo's at a young age and she brings joy and love to those around her so I hope she will keep on being creative and believing in her people ❤ I carry a picture of her in my phone-cover so I am reminded of her daily. I want to make the world a better place for her and all the children of her generation. Thank you for bringing forward her story!!

strong and exciting, a great teaching

Obviously I am just a simple spectator, this work is very important for humanity, and that's how we can change the world with a movie like Resistance is Life. And many more people should see it! There is also something very deep in this film related to beauty, beauty in spite of everything. There is very beautiful photography, there are strong but extremely beautiful images, and I also loved the way the film manages to capture the beauty of the people. And then I also loved the concept of resistance that comes out above all from the strength of children, from their desire to continue smiling. And while you are there to watch the injustices suffered by the people, there is Evlin, who speaks like an adult and upsets you and gives you hope. They are truly adult-children, who mix wisdom with naivety. The choice to tell the story from the point of view children, I think it is a brilliant key. Because indeed they are the symbol of resistance. The film manages to capture some really interesting moments, with a delicate and attentive eye. I asked myself several times: but how did the filmmakers manage to be there at that moment? Your testimony is resistance. I also really liked how the role of the family emerges. Very often I wonder how other cultures live the concept of family, how a family can survive such difficult situations. Your portrait is exemplary. The feelings that come out are universal, they touch us, they involve us and make us feel so close to those people. Such an effective portrait teaches our West a lot. But seeing this documentary opened my eyes. Especially on the involvement of children in the catastrophe that has been going through Syria for nine years. So, thank you for your time.

A must-watch. What a precious little girl living a nightmare with bravery and wit.
nohramb8 August 2022
In the middle of a heartbreaking reality we see the precious lives of children, women and men, mothers and fathers, families living for the dream of having a homeland, of living in peace, of surviving, which means to RESIST.

All the destruction and injustice brought by terrorists are just unthinkable. Seeing this and exposing our hearts to their pain is the least we can do to honor this brave people. Hopefully we can do more than that. They should not be alone in their fight!

I'm thankful for the director's heart to do it, for initiatives like Bernard-Henri Levy's support of the Kurds in the international arena, for the Italian and other volunteers who are willing to lend a hand, show the best of humanity.

My deepest admiration for the beautiful and brave Kurdish women!! You are my heroes.
