Shawn Mendes dominated the 2018 iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards on Sunday night, performing twice and taking home the Artist of the Year, Best Pop Artist or Group, Fan Fave Artist, and Fan Fave Video awards. Fellow hometown hero Drake added two more MMVAs to his collection, winning Best Hip Hop Artist or Group and Best Director with Karena Evans for “God’s Plan.”
“This is home,” Mendes said while holding the Mmva for artist of the year, according to the Toronto Star. “This means the absolute world to me.” He also clowned the crowd at a different point in the show by coming out wearing DJ Marshmello’s disguise.

It’s that time of year again when, after networks have announced their new fall schedule and new television season offerings overall at upfronts, the studios behind the shows present screenings of their hottest properties for the international television market.
Fox co-CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman may have boldly declared this year that they would be focusing on programming for the American marketplace — “As other networks are focused on monetizing ownerships of their shows, they need to program with an eye to the international market,” Walden said — but their’s is an outlier approach. All other nets are still developing with the overseas buyers in mind — as are studios who are monetizing through ownership.
Here, Variety lays out the new series priorities for eight studios at this year’s L.A. screenings.

“The Launch,” Big Machine Records President/CEO Scott Borchetta’s singing competition on Canadian Television (CTV), is getting a second season, having landed an exclusive worldwide distribution deal with Sony Pictures Television (Spt). The show is set to begin filming in Toronto this coming Fall for the 2018-19 season.
After just one season on the air, the show has seen success from its graduates the likes of which most reality competition shows strive for: six of the series’ singles have seen major traction, including four No. 1 songs on iTunes Canada: Poesy’s “Soldier of Love,” Logan Staats’ “The Lucky Ones,” Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine’s “Ain’t Easy,” which was recently certified platinum, and The Static Shift’s “Wide Awake.”
That success, Borchetta tells Variety, is validation that “we might really have something here.”
The idea for “The Launch” came to Borchetta shortly after completing his final season as...

Looks like Marvel isn’t waiting until the Super Bowl to release new footage for Avengers: Infinity War.
Via a now deleted Tweet, the studio’s Canadian arm announced plans to unveil a new sneak peek on The Launch at 9 pm Et (6pm Pt/2am GMT) later this evening, but stopped short of detailing any specifics. We will, as always, be keeping a close eye on Marvel’s channels for further updates, so expect full coverage of the new Infinity War promo the moment it drops.
Exactly what Marvel Canada and CTV have planned is anyone’s guess, though we imagine it’ll turn out to be some form of behind-the-scenes featurette that celebrates the sheer scale and scope of Infinity War. Should that hold true, it’ll help ensure the Russo Brothers’ blockbuster doesn’t overshadow Black Panther, which is about to herald a trailer debut of its own...
