- In his first official case as Honore's new DI, Jack investigates the apparent suicide of a bride-to-be, right before her wedding. The room was empty, the door locked, and everyone has an alibi; but Jack isn't convinced it wasn't murder.
- Billionaire Philip Marston and his children are on the island for his marriage to Diane Smith but she falls from her hotel balcony the day before the wedding. Given a reminder of an indiscretion from her past suicide is presumed but Jack sees evidence to the contrary. Philip's daughters, bossy Karen and spoilt Pearl, had cause to dislike her, unlike their reasonable brother Stephen whilst the hotel manager is unusually uncooperative. Jack uncovers family secrets to solve the murder.—don @ minifie-1
- Hotel group magnate Philip Marston's much younger bride Diane Smith makes a fatal fall from her suite after texting to him she "can't live with herself", apparently because of a British press article denouncing her bastard child when a teenager. Jack refuses to close the case he commissioner insists, convinced her interrupted manicure means a staged suicide. Philip's children all disliked a stepmother. Son Stephen might have to give up his luxury life as 'hotel tester', possibly conspiring with study buddy Oliver Fitzwarren whom he engaged as manager of the home hotel and bribing a hotel maid. Eldest sister Karen engaged Diane as HR manager but feared becoming her subordinate, kid sister Pearl might no longer be permitted to live as pampered parasite. Jack still has to work out an MO as all seem to have alibis, none opportunity, so what didn't happen as it appears?—KGF Vissers
