The design of the "capsule" in which Barbara is buried is not accurate. The real capsule was accessed by a trap door, not a full lid; the ventilation pipes were flexible hoses, not rigid PVC pipes; there were two small ventilation screens inside the capsule (one for air intake and one for air outtake), not one large screen; and the light bulb was on the bulkhead in the upper left corner behind Barbara's head, not on the side. The real capsule also had a water pump on the floor to the left of Barbara's head. Additionally, there was a two-foot by two-foot area (divided into two sections) behind the bulkhead that contained the battery and wiring that powered the life-support system. This section was also accessed by a hinged trap door, and the ventilation pipes were attached to the lid. When the FBI dug up Barbara, they followed the pipes and initially tore off the top of the area behind the bulkhead because they didn't realize that the capsule was divided into sections. They had to continue digging to find the trap door that accessed the main chamber where Barbara lay. An accurate illustration of the capsule and a photo of the box in the ground (with the access panel removed and the trap door opened) can be found in the December 1971 issue of Reader's Digest.
