Positively surprised
alirezasho24 October 2020
If you live in Sweden and watched Swedish movies once in a while it's not hard to get pessimistic about them, since many Swedish movies are pessimistic about life. if it's not a criminal drama then it's about someones downward life but once in a while a uplifting charming film pops out. This film has what's called the hollywood script format, which means it starts low and ends high. The town it's filmed at could be any small town in Sweden and same goes with the people, like Springfield in "the Simpsons" I thought it's going to be something cheesy, plotless story line but I was positively surprised. It was about the human spirit and not give up on life or you give up on yourself

A pretty good movie!
hanonskym13 March 2019
I don´t like Filip and Fredrik very much and thought I was in for 90 minutes of political mess but I actually really liked the movie. Persbrandts performance really lifts the movie and the script is believable and realistic. Well-written. Actually all main actors and actresses feels genuine. Good casting. The parts with Filip and his father is in my opinion the weakest link but not enough to bring any shame to the movie. This is the first time I experience Filip and Fredrik as humble instead of being condescending or making of fun of odd characters. Well done.

Tycker förresten att det ironiskt att de småstadsfolket hatar mest med stadsbor eller Stockholmare, är i princip förkroppsligat av Filip och Fredrik.

nice

In the first part, it seems unrealistic, improvised and just boring. The second half gives the touching moral lesson. Not an impressive film but just a nice one. About fame - not the good one- , about a town and about a man too easz to define him as looser. And his idea, changing more. Simple and touching. That is all.

Not the same as the book
vskfanz28 July 2018
Film based from the book with the same name. A true (tragic) lifestory of Hasse P. Good acting by Persbrandt and Lindström Bolmgren who has the correct swedish accent for the specific area. The film was good but not better than the book. The book has a way better ending a couple of months after the world record which you cannot predict. Also I think the book has more comedy and tons of more details than the film. Overall a good job especially with 80's feel and nostalgia.

Probably the best swedish movie I've ever seen
mackanenquist14 November 2020
This movie is completely mindblowing. Swedish movie culture is most often depressingly bad, but this movie is created with a sence of hollywood quality, without losing the essence of a small swedish society.

Growing up in a small village in Sweden myself, I can really say that this is true to life. It's a fascinating culture, with people doing such dumb stuff all the time and becoming local celebrities for it.

I've watched this movie about 5 or 6 times already, and it still brings me to tears each time.

A top movie. The book was ok but the movie was faboulos. And I have never seen Helena Bergström so good. The movie nearly overflows with great acting parts. The best Swedish movie in years.

Let Them Eat Cake
Minnesota_Reid7 April 2019
This was one of the movies I was most looking forward to at our local international film festival. But it disappointed. It went the route of being quirky for quirky's sake, rather than build up three dimensional characters. (This has been a growing problem with a segment of recent Scandinavian comedies, unfortunately.)

Minor note. The story turns out to be based on a real case, and at the end of the movie, they showed pictures of the actors next to pictures of the characters -- period pictures when they had them. It was impressive how hard the filmmatkers worked to match the looks of the real characters.

A Swedish comedy original movie
gurkan991315 December 2019
This film is good but it's not a classic. I like Mikael in the leading role because he is a great actor that gives everything on screen. Finally I like to say that Hasse P I a true hero because he shows in the movie that everything is possible.

90 minutes of waste
leon-1843814 September 2020
This movie was just boring from the start to the end. Lame story telling and I with no actually edge. and yeah it have some funny moments to deserve the one and only star. With that said do something better with your 90 minutes in life...like watching a robot lawn mower

Beautiful scenes

I love this movie!!

The scene when Hasse P and his girl dances in the night on top of the community house is magic, Hollywood style!

One of the best Swedish movies ever made!

"Comedy"
lotrlindholm21 April 2019
This film commits the biggest sin a comedy can, by being boring. The "comedic" parts of the film falls utterly flat combined with the terrible performances given by the main cast.

With more jumpcuts than a YouTube vlog, there is nothing redeeming about this film that would make it worth watching. Save yourself and stay far away!

Best Swedish film ever made
signemaria-402381 January 2021
I am not a fan of Swedish film. Usually I think the acting is poor and that too much focus in on costumes and scenography, not subtitle acting or good direction. But this film is different. Usually, Swedish film shows upper middle class, and if they don't, it is about how miserable people from the working class is basically. This is the film about a genius. Who is also an alcoholic and who dropped out of school. But the focus is not on the alcohol, refreshingly. Mikael Persbrandt has never been this good, he deserves an Oscar for this performance. Helena Bergström also does her best acting I have ever seen her do. I was so moved by this film and I did NOT think so when seeing the trailer or hearing about it.

Good intentions...
drevemark23 November 2019
...but poor storytelling. Could instead have been made to a rather nice lets say 45 minutes long documentary. Starts ok, you get to know Köping. Ends just fine. But in between. Holy moly. Quiet disastreous. Synd på rara ärter. Svensk filmindustri...
