Once Upon a Time... Again.
diogocaldeiragraca20007 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I've watched and been a fan of Once since S1 and when I learned that Emma, the Charmings, Belle, Zelena and the rest were not going to be in this season, I admit I felt a tad disappointed. But the fact that Hook, Regina and Rumple (my favorite OUAT characters) were coming back made me happy. I went into this New Season wondering if it was going to be good or not, and I wasn't disappointed! I'm going to sum it all up in this Up and Down review:

Ups from the Episode: + Roni, Rogers and Weaver + The new Henry + Their new take on Cinderella + Lucy + Leaving us with many questions + Lady Tremaine is an interesting villain + The callbacks to S1 + Leaves you wanting more + The visual effects are a bit better + Roni's speech to Tremaine

Downs: - Not explaining why Hook, Regina and Rumple are there - Henry's phone still works? And his bike still has gas? - That scene where Cinderella decides to not kill the prince (Dania Ramirez's acting was not that good, but I'm sure it will get better) - Cinderella knowing how to ride a motorbike after just someone explaining that to her - Only a glimpse of Tiana - The same old storyline (a curse, memory loss and fake memories)

Overall: 8.1/10 I hope we get flashbacks to every new character this season and I hope more new characters are introduced like Moana, Peter Pan 2.0, Snow White 2.0, etc. I also hope that we have lots of adventure through the Season. I want side-villains to show up and I hope they get their memories back (or at least some people) before the season finale. I can't wait to see how Emma, Zelena and Belle are coming back (Zelena for more than one episode).

Please, if you're a fan of Once don't give up on the show. It's still the show it was back then. The decision to not include Emma was Jennifer Morrison's, not the writers so don't give up on the show just because she's not there.

Good. I'll continue watching.
So I was one of the few who really hoped that there would be a season seven. And though I hoped it would be a continuation of the original canon, I'm pleased with how the season started. New questions developed...I'm theorizing! There was one glaring negative, however, being Jacinda's acting. It wasn't necessarily the acting, but more of the likability of the character and actress.

It is better than expected
matheusdrl14 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I'm thoroughly surprised by how good it is. Though I have to admit I was a little confused at some points. Glad some familiar faces are still around, like the "new" Regina, Gold and Hook, and I'm looking forward to what they are up to now, and how they interact with each other. But I wonder if they are still the same original fairy tale characters, like, is Roni the Evil Queen? Rogers was seen wearing a glove. Does it mean he is Captain Hook? Is Weaver as dark as Rumple? So many unanswered questions made me look forward the next episode. Adelaide Kane seemed a little distant from the scenes. I hope her acting gets the deserved attention, she deserves better than this. Dania Ramirez is indeed a great actress. I'm so happy she is Cinderella now. Finally, I need to say I don't care about Emma, Snow or Charming anymore. I couldn't be more glad they are gone. Good riddance!

A new show within the show we love
NirupamDhakal9 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The first episode of ONCE without Emma, Snow and others might sound weird but trust me it's not. The show takes place in a new place, it has a new curse and some new cast members but this is the same show we love. The Henry we know has grown up, the Evil Queen has a new persona and Hook is a cop. The most interesting thing was Rumple. I like how they didn't change him and he's still a good-bad person. Also, this episode just paves the way for future episodes and that's why they don't disclose much. It's still a good show and I will not stop watching this.

They wrapped it up in Season 6. Should have left it at that.
alexczx9 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The new reboot is an atrocious attempt to rehash QUOT Season 1, except with much worse actors and a bumbling story that has no rhyme or reason. I understand that most actors from the previous 6 seasons have quit, but since the show runners decided to bring some of them back (I wonder what kind of financial carrot they dangled in front of Lana, Colin and Robert but it must have been substantial), they should have at least explained how these characters, who all were part of a loving couple, ended up single. This whole setup feels like a desperate attempt to exploit viewers' attachment to characters they've grown to love over the course of previous seasons, nothing more.

I am truly disappointed in both the new cast and the story. My prediction is that this show will be canceled after its first season.

another great season with new characters and new stories
faheem-prince9513 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
it should be branded by Disney because all stories are now more matured and the kid is now a man and Cinderella she well better. the show deserves good ratings this time because no one else is doing this kind of show.the show is a good example of humor magic love stories and twist and turns and ABC has done a good thing to restart this show and i guess everyone needed the next chapter as all other popular shows are not continuing like this show

Far from magical heights
TheLittleSongbird8 June 2019
Had very mixed feelings about 'Once Upon a Time' returning. On one hand, there was the thought that there was potential to correct the flaws that most of the inconsistent Season 6 made, that with a new setting and characters there was potential for less of a running out of ideas feel. On the other hand, really did question its necessity as Season 6 ended perfectly and would have served as a worthy ending for the show.

Unfortunately, the Season 7 opener "Hyperion Heights" really made me question the point of 'Once Upon a Time' returning. There wasn't much point having a new setting and characters when all the flaws of the previous season were here and more made too and when everything introduced was done badly or worse. Instead of feeling fresh everything felt stale and muddled, there was more of a running out of ideas feel and it basically felt like a different show. Did not watch "Hyperion Heights" or the season with the intent or want to hate them, actually genuinely wanted any doubts to be proven wrong. Doubts elsewhere have been proved wrong quite a number of times in the past, sadly they were proven right here.

"Hyperion Heights" has a few good things. The production values have a lot of beauty and atmosphere, nothing drab or gaudy here, while being attractively photographed. The music doesn't ever sound cheap or out-of-kilter, fitting well with the mood and never found myself questioning its placement. The main theme is still memorable.

The remaining original cast members do very well with what they have, Jared Gilmore has the lion's share and he has grown so much as Henry. Lana Parrilla always did make the most of anything that was thrown at her and she does here.

It is sad though that the new characters feature in the episode much more, and most of the acting for the newer cast members, apart from perhaps Rose Reynolds as Alice, is not very good at all. Almost all of them just don't feel, sound or look right, and either overplay or have little presence. Absolutely agree with the panning of Dania Ramirez's too old, irritating and completely charmless Cinderella, everything about the performance and character is a failure. The chemistry between the actors isn't there either, everything is very stiff when it's remotely existent. Am aware there is such thing as settling in, but most "settling inners" are much more natural and engaged than this.

Also failures are the writing and storytelling. The unintentional camp and soap opera that was all over some of the second half of Season 5 and most of Season 6 is here in "Hyperion Heights" and we're not talking in splashes, this is more than a whole bathtub's worth here we're talking about. The dialogue is very corny and has the maturity of very awkward first day at secondary school banter, especially between Henry and Cinderella. Nothing really feels fresh, there is an unfocused feel as a result of trying to include too much, it manages to feel both rushed and dull (with the newer material making no impact) and instead of questions being answered more questions are raised, not what a season with the intent of refreshing a show should do.

On the whole, for a season opener this is a major disappointment. 4/10

Excellent start to a great new season!

Warning: Spoilers
I really loved this episode and I'm still gonna love this entire season because, one I like how all of the old cast characters have new cursed identities now and also the new characters as well. I just cannot wait too see Emma Swan in action the next episode which is the second episode for next week on next Friday. I hope she doesn't die as well. Because I would be really mad.

7 should have never happened...
kristynleigh-2333721 May 2019
Dania Ramirez is a HORRIBLE actress! Season 6 ended beautifully and it should have been the final season. I do not understand how anyone could give this season a positive review. The acting was terrible and it seemed they were trying so hard on the story to be suspenseful but it ended up being boring. If you want to give this show a try just end at 6...

Same ol' Same ol' - SPOILERS
stronzo-17 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
First up, I love Once Upon A Time - however the last season or 2 have been a let down....the whole Peter Pan saga soured it for me initially, but I digress......the show was in need of a refresh or just let it have ended at the end of Season 6.......but omg seriously, deja vu anyone? starting it again from the beginning only in reverse. Henry not knowing who his daughter is instead of Emma/Henry.....another curse. So many unanswered questions but in the fullness of time, they will be answered however - the acting was quite bad and it certainly didn't capture the imagination like very first episode did. Glad to see Lana, Robert and Colin there but ....why Colin?.....Hook and Swan got their happy ending - so I'm guessing that it didn't work out and he's inclusion is purely for the fan girls. No disrespect - I'm female myself but his inclusion makes no sense whatsoever. Anyways, hoping it gets better because in all honesty, it has to as this has to have been the most boring episode of OUAT ever.

Oh no, not again!
louk-8123521 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I was so addicted to the first 6 seasons of Once Upon a Time and really looked forward to season 7 figuring it'd get my attention right away as it did before. BUT......poof!The 'Once Upon a Great' series quickly went up in a puff of smoke from the onset. Same story, spell, etc.,and to put the icing on the cake, many of the new characters are so miscast I find it'll probably be impossible to grow any attachment to them. The Cinderella actress especially has absolutely no resemblance whatsoever to Cinderella; with an irritatingly raspy voice & mannerisms, I find myself only waiting impatiently for her to get off of the screen.Because of the Hook, Rumpelstiltskin, Regina actors and whoever else they might add to season 7's cast I'm going to tough it out for awhile in the hope that MAYBE things will get better. Sorry but 'thumbs down' is all I can advise!

Alright

Warning: Spoilers
Just started season 7. I was so hyped to watch it! I loved the first 6 seasons.Rumple and Regina, and Hook were great to see. I see they have my Queen of Scots from Reign on this season as Drizella love her. Wish older Henry had a stronger part. This show was just great!! But... My gripe with season 7 is it's moving slooow. Also, I am not buying Cinderella. There is nothing Cinderellaish about this lady. There is no connection with Henry. He would making a better LOOKING couple with Sabine. This Ella and Henry just don't look like a couple. It just doesn't flow right. I'm only on episode 8, and I am going to keep watching cause I love the show. It may pick up and get better in future episodes. Hopefully next season will be better.

Boring!
clairebwfc29 December 2020
I don't know why this was even made! I was excited to watch it because I enjoyed the characters so much in the first 6series. Only continued to watch for Robert, Lana and Colin...the rest of the characters are shocking and I just can't connect! Will give it a few more episodes to see if it gets any better but we already had a Cinderella...why a new one that doesn't make sense to me...they should have picked a new fairy take character at least!

That's it now - I stopped watching
penny-prosperity7 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what kept me watching that series. It became from season to season more and more ridiculous. But now it is really at a point where I am no longer wasting any time. I stopped watching this episode midway as it is neither entertaining nor does anything it make any sense anymore.

Again a curse and again Henry to the rescue and then he loses his memory and is stuck in a realm ... it goes back and forth between present and some fairytale world. A daughter he does not know about knocks at his door and tells him she is his daughter, yada yada yada ...

Once Upon A Time - this was a clever show
katiewon7 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
So far...far...far away from where it began. I LOVED this show in Season 1, enjoyed Season 2, but by 3 I think I'd had enough. Every year I try to watch but these last 2 seasons in particular were dreadful. I didn't like the loose ends and all the focus on every fairy-tale you ever heard becoming a season or a couple of episodes with one outrageous explanation after another! The Devil did it for me...Hades, really? I don't blame Jennifer Morrison for leaving, I was embarrassed for her with some of the things she was asked say and do - they literally made me cringe. Poor girl. She went from being a strong, somewhat cynical girl to...well, evil, then back to good. Then being devastated by Neal's death then hooking up with...Hook. And the musical! Oh dear God no! (Where was God in all this?? Maybe Season 8 LOL). I just couldn't watch anymore. And speaking of Neal, what happened to baby Neal? (who never cried or seemed to need to be fed or changed)-just 'disappeared'! I thought the last few seasons really left Henry behind - the original catalyst just a secondary player. Sad. By the end Henry was just awkward.

WARNING, THE NEXT PARAGRAPH MAY CONTAIN POTENTIAL SPOILERS

I saw the show was back...and didn't plan to watch until I saw Henry on the motorcycle and most of the cast was not involved and thought - maybe something fresh? Now Henry will get his due. I liked the kid who played him and was amazed and how he had grown! Now, he's another actor entirely. Hmmm not sure about him yet, but I will say he does fight like a Charming that's for sure! I thought the best part was the fight at The Ball and his latest "Operation Glass Slipper" was cute. But the fact that Henry has a daughter he doesn't remember, blah blah blah..c'mon! Really?? Same story device?? Don't they have any other curses in these other "realms?" I did get a kick out of Hook and Gold in law enforcement...hilarious. And "Roni" the bar owner giving it to the land baroness. Nice to see the spunk of the old Regina again - without all the evil - or being goody two shoes, mushy in love one.

I suppose I will watch - on Hulu when I am really, really bored, but I think the thrill is gone and this may be the end. The mistake I think this show made was they told the best part of the story in 2 seasons and then stayed too long at The Ball. Once Upon A Time has turned into a pumpkin.

Just Another Loop
noalygh10 October 2017
Season 6 ended up with a happy ending for all, and they should've just left it that way. Season 7 comes back with a reset makes a total let down for me.

The storyline, again, stuck in the same way as season 1, another curse, just perpetrated by a different person. The recast of almost everything made everything seems queer, but disappointingly arranged and scripted. The acting was kind of cheesy and fake anyway. OUAT, gradually turned from an amazing, enchanting show to a complete failure.

Lots of questions
garyb-847418 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
First off Henry fought his whole life to bring his family together and get a happy ending. So he then decides to leave and go into other realms away from his family?? What?? I guess things went horribly wrong too since somehow Hook and Emmma are now apart and Belle and Runple too, as for Charming and Snow who knows. This is just a rehash of the same story only with worse actors and characters. I see this as the last season if it even makes it that far.

Pleeeeez stop with the overplumped lip acting and looooooz that ridiculous accent. Nobody talks like that. Not even in England. You are acting with some of the best so gear up.
