Just OK

Not a bad first episode to the much awaited 10th season, but not great either. The patriotism was quite nice, with the show starting with a 4th of July parade. There has been a political agenda being written into the show in the last few seasons but this wasn't as blatant as a previous episode. The whole episode did however seem a bit messy and random with a total disconnect between the three families. No spoilers. The story with Haley has become rather one dimensional and it seems that it's going to continue as such into this new season. It's sad that her character couldn't have been made more interesting. It was and still is only about her exes and relationships which has got really stale and predictable. Alex doesn't have much of a role as of this episode which may be a good thing because her character too has become so one dimensional and predictable again. Cam and Mitch are quite pleasant and fun to watch and of course Lily still hasn't learnt how to act. She's just as dead pan as ever. Sadly even my favourite Ed O'Neil doesn't seem to be given much to work with while Sofia Vergara looks bored. It just looks like the creators and writers have given up on bringing anything new and interesting into the show and any of the characters lives. It's probably just going to fizzle out with the show wrapping up with this season as its last. Loyal Modern Family fans are of course going to watch till the end, but not because it's still the same awesome show it initially was, but because we just wanna see how everything turns out. Of course the show is still pleasant and watchable, just not great anymore.

This was a pretty okay episode. About on par with most of season 9, which I thought was just okay. It certainly doesn't deserve the hate it's been getting in on here.

While I am not in the 'Modern Family has done downhill' camp, it perhaps could be said that every episode of it is as consistently funny as it was in the first 1-6 seasons. But then again, what long-running show is?

This originally was going to be the start of the last season of the show, and there is certainly a sense of renewed vigour with that in mind.

I don't understand all the low reviews, I thought this was a great episode, in which most of the characters had lots to do.

I liked the new Cam/Mitch/Cal dynamic, with Lily also doing more, and the Phil/Luke story especially.

'Modern Family' is a great show, this episode is proof.

I think I laughed more than over the span of the whole last season. There's definitely hope, where there was none BEFORE watching this episode.

For a first episode, i think it was great.. i never thought the show was going "down hill" in the first place, and as the previous seasons, i simply liked it, the humor, the relationships between characters, and everything seemed right. we'll have to see what the rest of season has to offer.

What has happened to this once great show ? Dreadful and not funny ,although I wasn't expecting too much as this show started to go downhill last season .Time to call it a day .

This episode i one of the worst ever for this series. It is really bad, not funny at all and the characters are not just dumb, they are completly stupid and morons. One more and if I do not like, I will drop this series for good.

I knew MF was going down down down but I thought at least the final season would be ok. It was not even ok, just horrible! Shame...

That Voice over deserves -9 stars

Everything is as it is except for the voice over saying what everyone is doing (while there are no dialogues). That voice over (narrator) is very disturbing and irritating and hence the rating 1 star.

Another episode that I had never seen on its first run

Because I stopped watching...because this show turned into absolute garbage.

Wow...this was awful awful awful. Not a single smile, smirk, chuckle, guffaw. Absolutely nothing. This is not good tv. This is really bad tv.
