Shame
mrnpow27 March 2024
It's such a shame they squandered the opportunity to create a faithful continuation of such a great show. I can't imagine what possessed them to waste money to create such a mediocre show.

Reboot used to be a fun action show loosely based on computers and the internet with clever pop culture references thrown in to keep things fresh. The characters were not only well designed, but full of depth that made you grow attached to them.

The creators of this abomination should be ashamed of themselves for not only creating this, but as well as taking a shot at the shows loyal fan base.

RIP Reboot.

I really wanted to like it
ta-6064415 October 2023
I really wanted to like this. The trivia notes here say that the guy behind the show wasn't into the original Reboot and had only seen a few episodes of the show and you can tell. The bits from the original that were thrown in didn't seem like they were done out of fondness, but just a need to somehow link it to the animated original.

Even once you get past it not having any of the charm or drama of the animated series it still has so many problems of its own. There was a real lack of chemistry between the actors. I know they weren't all supposed to be friends at the start but it was like we were watching a practice reading of their lines.

Then there is the downright creepy fascination that the Parker character had with the computer created Vera character. He felt like he should be in a Lifetime movie as her stalker.

The over-the-top 'Sorcerer' character and his need to repeat the same thing several times in a slightly different way got hard to take really fast. He'd have moments when he was a good bad guy but very few.

Horrible. Just . . . horrible.
skaizun4 December 2022
In a bizarre attempt to combine the beloved CGI TV series, ReBoot, with Transformers, Power Rangers, and even Saved by the Bell, if you can believe that, this production crashed, big time, without even an annoying blue screen of death to save viewers from watching this dreck. I am convinced that wealthy parents gave in to their spoiled brat of a 12-year-old's tantrums to pay some drugged-out, washed-up, producer, to make something from the kid's crayon-scrawled, fanboy, scripts, and, despite the money, ended up with even less than they started with. If you still think you might see things differently, then, clearly, you haven't read this review, thoroughly. Save yourself: Don't watch this series. But, DO watch the first 3 seasons of the original ReBoot (the subsequent ones were of lesser quality in terms of script and plot). You have been warned.

Chill out, it's good fun
RickardRed175 September 2022
Lotta negative reviews from superfans of the original series. If you go into The Guardian Code with the expectation of a revival/duplication of the original Reboot, you will be sorely disappointed. But if you're okay with watching a fun, lively, well-performed series that will remind you of the cheesy digital superhero shows of the 90s (Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad, VR Troopers, etc.) with loose tie-ins to Reboot, you'll have a good time with this one. The actors are great, the production value is decent, and the plot lines were good enough to hold my attention. Will I rewatch the series? 33% probability of that. Glad I gave it a shot, tho.

Not bad at all !
18Buddha19 June 2022
I was a fan growing up watching Reboot as a kid so when i saw this Live Action interpretation i was excited to see how can it be done?

Lets start off with great acting by the girl playing Vera, she did an outstanding job and has a bright future ahead for her hopefully.

The other characters though werent as notable for their performances but for a Canadian show i feel this was pretty good as I rarely ever watch any Canadian shows as their acting and story scripts are not often on par to American shows.

I was very impressed with how they integrated an animated show into a Live action as the characterd traversed cyberspace i thought it was excellently done.

Sure some will say the visuals are not as advanced as like a Power Rangers show or a Marvel produced series but they did their best with what they had as well as overcoming the challenging part of creating Cyberspace battles & adventures to mimic the Oldschool Reboot show.

Just be happy their CGI wasnt as bad as those u see in D lister films like Sharknado lmao or Anaconda Vs Lake Placid films, or even mockbuster films like Transmorphers.

Some critical things I observed i disliked is they essentially made this like a Power Rangers show. I legit was watching and thinking wow this could have been : Power Rangers in Space!

Err... I mean Power Rangers in Cyber Space lol.

With their vehicles, weapons and their cheesey quips was exactly Power Rangers.

Power Rangers in the virtual flesh
ThunderKing63 May 2022
It's a Power Rangers and a Zixx rip off. Funny thing is, a show called Reboot gets a Reboot. It's so comical.

Live action goons go into the virtual world to save the world dress in the colours like the Power Rangers and behaving like the Power Rangers, while the cliché hooded censored identity villain pulls strings in a hidden location.

This show was nothing like the original legend known as Reboot of the 90s. This show was a huge mess and shows the producers didn't care about my childhood feelings.

It could barely last 1 year, let that sink in as the virus took over and shut down this show.

Would have been a good TRON show.
josiahathomas25 March 2022
Feels like this should have been a TRON show, and not a ReBoot show. Was so excited, then so let down. Don't know how they got this so wrong. Not much real nostalgia until much later in the show, and even then it felt forced.

Not like the original, but still really good
cubesolver62 November 2021
This series is less like the original "ReBoot" and more like "Code Lyoko" and/or "Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad". But not being like the original doesn't make it bad. Overall it's still really good.

Clearly the negative reviews are 30+ & up! (Rolling eyes!)
sharonannichino19 February 2021
If ones takes a second and reads the tv rating for this show, they will find it rated TV-Y7. I am certain not a single person that presented one of these atrocious reviews below fits in that age range. This program is geared towards the age group of minor children, not full grown adults seeking a remake of a childhood show. For those that fit in the age appropriate category or those not looking for a blast from the past, this is a decent show. Literally. Its decent in that it's not sending kids away from the tele with less innocence than prior to sitting before it. Nor is it as horrible in creator context. The acting is definitely standard to Disney and Nickelodeon quality and the concept is great! It's a digital age folks!! What kid in this generation wouldn't love to be one of these 4 kids going into cyber space in one of those bad @$$ suits?!?!? (There are a large number of adults well into the original Tron generation that would as well!!) I have an 11 year old son who certainly would! In fact He told me to write this:

"This may be a little 'not original' as they say. Seeing how they used the same name but put in new characters & such. I think they were trying to change it up a bit. And I think some people didn't like that very much. But I liked it a lot!"

Doesn't that matter?? We were bummed when we realized it ended and no one knows where the cube is or if Austin's Dad is saved from the black hole...

So when you read these other reviews that are so overboard as if the show was made for them, the adults...remember the shows target audience with its age appropriateness and the words of the little dude above. He's their target demographic and who they made the show for. So, to the actors, directors, cast, crew and creators... thank you!

So disappointing
kkaldroma30 November 2020
I remember watching this when it was called "Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad" (tt0108944). As everyone has pointed out, this is ReBoot in name only. I have been looking forward to a continuation of the ReBoot story for 20 years, this is an entirely different show that borrowed a few characters and a logo to trick me into watching it. The Canadian Scifi supporting cast gets this +1 star.

I would be MORE than happy to crowd fund another Daemon Rising (Veronica Mars style).

Too childish
alfredoavalos23 September 2020
Not great but good enough Special Effects, it's problem is that the situations/problems presented are solved in a very childish way, they are wasting the opportunity to build real and complex scenarios, with powerful enemies and teenagers challenged to solve scenarios, as an example: Season 2, Episode 7, virus Megabyte tell Sorcerer that unless the last one eliminates the destruction code it has embedded in his body, it will destroy the guardians; so, instead of being threatened back with its destruction, he obtain a "ok"'from the Sorcerer, that's a 5 year old kid thinking.

Don't expect a sequel, expect a child show.
StevenOConnor8 June 2020
My main disappointment with the show is that the original show left us on a huge cliffhanger.

Guardian Code picks up from absolutely nowhere.

Then there is the fact that you never actually see the face of the cast in the computer world except in their "iron man" like interface which removes all emotion from the equation.

I mean it's probably a passable children show. But as a fan of the original Reboot, and having waited forever to watch it (thanks to Netflix not letting Canadian users watch it at the same time as the US) I am utterly disappointed by this.

I definitely wasted time of my life that I won't recover.

Bad writing, REALLY bad CG, and amateur actors
timone-shimone1 April 2020
Tried giving it a chance. Saw the first 10 episodes. Got progressively worse throughout. While Megabyte was done decently, the main characters lacked stories with believable conflict to advance their arcs. Power Rangers was a much better execution of this type of cast. The writing and explanation of Mainframe is a slap in the face to the original show. Why couldn't this have been better? I really really wanted it to be. 1/10. Please call the original writers back and maybe this reconceptualization of ReBoot could have a chance.

Disaster and complete disrespectful to the original source material
peachboy-5695510 March 2020
Fire dingle nuts, hire a competent director that isnt trying to make the 1998 godzilla equivalent of reboot. Fire the actors, I know they tried hard and the family is sticking up for them, but get them out of the dumpster fire before this stains their acting career. People wanted reboot, not tron power rangers. Heck, even a cgi anime adaptation would of been a better than this because it seems as of late, that market is the killing it right now while western cartoons (or this abomination) seem to be hit or miss by a mile. I hope someone higher up in the company will see these reviews and give their head a shake. Yes, it's for kids, but even kids dont enjoy this. My 10 year old younger cousin is even a die hard fan of the original series since he was young as he stumbled across the reboot box set my cousin bought. He cried watching this because he wanted to see a comeback of the original, but he got this and it actually made him cry a bit. He just wanted the original reboot but for his generation, which is understandable.

This is bad, really bad
libby-xyz18 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
What an abomination. Is the show about Bob the Guardian and his friends keeping the cyber world safe from Megabyte and Hexadecimal for the Users? Nope. That would be the original '90s series that has a cult following to this day. This 'ReBoot' is really just a cheesy Power Ranger's knock-off-wannabe. Except it doesn't have the 'cheesiness' of the Power Rangers show. No sign of Bob, Dot, Enzo, Friskett, Megabyte or Hexadecimal until the last episode of the 1st season. I wanted to weep for the horrible 'after thought' that the writers gave these original characters. These characters should have been front and center from episode 1. What viewers are left with is a really poor Power Rangers knock-off with an overload of teen angst. Oh Bob, what have they done?

I've just watched the s1 of this... whats its filename? just to get s1e10 with some sort of pre-history, and i have no words to describe how its bad. I will NOT proceed to s2, i swear! Oh... where is my "Unsee" button"? And... i want to ask you, "the creators", have you ever heard of such an insignificant and inconspicuous thing like s4? I reccomend you to watch this -> ReBoot, its great!

My kids love it.
dawn1037921 July 2019
My kids love this show and that's all that really matters to me. They're not old enough to have snooty opinions about the quality of the CGI. I hope there's another season!

Not very original
drizzitms2 June 2019
Thier is no originality to this what so ever. If your a fan of the Reboot series then just skip this. Four students who enter the digital world to fight an evil hacker which to me feels a bit like a bad dash of Tron tossed in.

Where have we seen this before?

Superhuman samurai cyber squad. A show from the 90s about four students who enter the digital world to fight an evil hacker.

Mistake in the end credits
flyonwall18 May 2019
It clearly states "Inspired by Reboot" but while watching the first episode, I was left with the distinct feeling they had never seen an episode of the original series.

Nothing resembling Bob, or Dot, or Enzo, or Fong, or the user, or any of the sprite citizens of Mainframe.

This is a 1 and done show for me. Sat through an episode and i'm finished with it. I might have been kinder in my review if it had a more honest title like "Generic Teenagers in CyberSpace"
