I remember watching the original SWAT tv show and talking about it at school the next day. I doubt this updated reboot will get the same treatment unless the chat is about how bad it is.
From some of the creative team behind The Fast and Furious films. These movies are entertaining popcorn film but the stories are over the top and dumb. The initial pilot of SWAT has the same kind of nonsense story telling.
SWAT stands for Special Weapons and Tactics. They are a paramilitary branch of the police. In LA they are used as back up. When one of them accidentally shoots a black bystander he is fired by the head of the police without any kind of enquiry. Then another member of the team is publicly promoted without being asked first. I can actually go on how inept this head of the police is but there actually limits on words to IMDB reviews.
The audience follows Lieutenant Hondo, a black officer from the hood who has now been promoted to lead his unit and take under his wing a gung ho rookie SWAT member called Jim Street who has just joined by speeding through traffic on his first day. Hondo knows that the colour of his skin is the main reason for his promotion and he is tasked to subdue racial tensions in the community.
The episode starts with an entertaining chase sequence involving gun dealers but it really is a dull and stupid story with a tacked on social issue of police violence against black people. A matter that deserves proper respect which the head of police fails to do and show deals with it in a glib way. The first episode came across as bland and bad.
