The Keith and Paddy Picture Show
jboothmillard27 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I knew instantly this was going to be perfect TV for me, because I was a big fan of Celebrity Juice and other shows featuring the well-known TV character, and his co-star is always fun to watch on TV as well, and obviously, being a huge fan of movies, I was definitely up for seeing them spoof them. Basically, each episode, Keith Lemon (Leigh Francis) and Paddy McGuinness attempt to recreate an iconic film, with the help of a celebrity cast. The show originated from a regular feature of The Keith Lemon Sketch Show, from the semi-regular sketch Keith & Paddy's Film Bit, and I also remember the fantastic spoof of Back to the Future, as part of the film's 30th anniversary celebrations. The films that are parodied are among Keith and Paddy's favourites, most being retro, cult and fan favourites, mostly from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Keith and Paddy describe the show as a "comedic tribute". The show consists of the key and memorable scenes of these chosen movies, with the occasional cut for jokes in-between during the "production", and some interesting facts about the real movies, including behind-the-scenes and trivia. The first series spoofed: Dirty Dancing, Ghostbusters, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Jaws, and Rocky (and its sequels). The second series spoofed: Grease, Top Gun, Pretty Woman, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and Jurassic Park. There was also the Christmas parody of Gremlins. Dirty Dancing starred Jessica Hynes, Larry Lamb, Kimberly Wyatt, and John Barrowman as himself. Ghostbusters starred Robbie Williams, Will Mellor (Robbie Williams' replacement), Sarah Parish, Emily Atack, Emma Willis, Gary Wilmot, Vicki Michelle, Chris Kamara, Mr. Blobby (Paul Denson), and Bob Carolgees and Spit the Dog. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi starred Phillip Schofield, Ant & Dec (Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly), David Dickinson, Michelle Keegan, Bungle (Malcolm Lord, Richard Arnold as himself, and Jeremy Kyle as himself. Jaws starred Stephen Tompkinson, Myleene Klass, Hank Osasuna, and Nik & Eva Speakman as themselves. Rocky starred Anna Friel, Marvin Humes, and Andi Peters. Grease starred Marvin Humes, Emily Atack, Emma Willis, Nicole Scherzinger, Stacey Solomon, Fearne Cotton, Georgia Toffolo, and Hunter from Gladiators. Top Gun starred Kriss Akabusi, Keith Allen, Paul Elliott (aka Paul Chuckle), Sarah Parish, John Whitby, and Marc Warren. Pretty Woman starred Philip Glenister, Amanda Holden, Louise Redknapp, Tracy-Ann Oberman, and Ainsley Harriott. Terminator 2: Judgement Day starred Jaime Winstone, Rick Astley, and Hank Osasuna. Jurassic Park starred Sian Gibson, Sally Phillips, Shaun Ryder, and Bernie Clifton and Oswald the Ostrich. Gremlins starred Zach Galligan as himself, Kara Tointon, John Thomson, Su Pollard, Les Dennis, 'Allo 'Allo! star Arthur Bostrom, Basil Brush, Zippy, and Gordon the Gopher. The leading stars are hilarious, the guest stars all bring something to each episode, the settings, props, and costumes are spot on with the genuine films, and the jokes (in and out of the film being spoofed) are really funny, a highly enjoyable comedy parody series. Very good!

Amusing

This is a bit hit and miss depending on the episodes and the films that are spoofed in them, but generally this is amusing if not always laugh-out-loud funny. The spoof of Dirty Dancing was very good, and the spoofing of Jurassic Park and Terminator 2 were often funny as well. I wasn't terribly taken with the Pretty Woman episode or the Gremlins one. Leigh Francis (as Keith Lemon obviously) and Paddy McGuinness appeared to be having great fun doing this. It was billed as a "comedic tribute" to some of Francis and McGuinness' favourite films.

Interesting premise overall for this show and it's not a bad execution.

Best comedy on TV for years

Keith Lemon and Paddy McGuinness attempt to 'faithfully' recreate great movies (but with a tight budget). The films star themselves and a host of mainly British TV celebrities.

Films include Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Dirty Dancing, Top Gun, Terminator 2, Grease, Jaws, Rocky, Pretty Woman, Jurassic Park.

This show is absolutely brilliant. The plots are inventive and some scenes are hilarious. Both Keith and Paddy are brilliant with great chemistry and I love the cameos. Their comic impersonations are spot on. The way they adapt these films is so funny.

I am not exaggerating to say this is one of the best comedy shows on British TV. It's so underrated. I hope they make more.

A bit of originality from ITV

I think this show has a great premise, and is exactly the sort of thing we need on TV right now, so I was wishing it well from the start.

I was pleased with what I saw. Yes, the two stars are not to everyone's tastes, but I liked the fact that the retelling of the first film (Dirty Dancing) was true enough and also had it's tongue firmly in cheek.

It's been given a dream slot in the schedules, but time will tell whether the public buy into it as a show.

Here's hoping.

Shockingly embarrassing

Lee Francis is a funny guy. What is he doing wasting his talent with the hopelessly inane Paddy McGuinness? He is awful, cardboard, unfunny and should never be allowed on TV ....Or radio.
