As Tyrone descends the stairs in his vision, family photos change to veves (icons/calling cards) of loa (spirits/intermediaries) associated with Haitian Vodou. The boat Immamou carries the dead to afterlife and is captained by Agwé, ruler of the seas and captain to souls lost in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. The heart is the veve of Èrzilí Dantor, who is associated with motherhood, protection, and rage and vengeance against oppression. The last one is a veve relates to Oya. She bends wind and storm, brings sudden change, and empowers those willing to fight.
