Another decent edition
Kingslaay12 April 2018
This time we had another great episode that explored the Men of letters story line more and introduced a new monster. The Winchesters were able to get the seal of solomon and Gabriel made a surprise return. When the fans all thought he was dead and gone he has somehow survived and nothing like we remember.

Another good build up as Dean and the unlikely ally of Ketch go the alternative dimension to bring back Mary and Jack.

The show has set up some interesting plot points and it will be nice to see where it goes.

AT LAST *SPOILERS*
I'm sure many of us have been waiting for this, I for one am glad to FINALLY see some cultist action and eldritch horrors! I'm hoping that this is a sign of things to come, and we will soon be done with the angels! Davy Perez hasn't written a bad episode yet and has shown that he cares about the lore and potential of the Supernatural universe, I haven't felt this excited about the future of the show in a long time!

My only complaint is having Yogoth give a monologue in a meatsuit, I feel some things are a bit above having to do that, surely Dean is just an ant in comparison? These beings ate their own universe, it takes away from it when you have a poorly delivered monologue about being sad your Eldritch love interest wasnt summoned with you. If you want to do Lovecraft, these things and their motives are supposed to be incomprehensible to mere mortals. Anyway by now it's to be expected, but its no excuse and was a tad disappointing, shoot higher guys! Otherwise great episode!

Does God have power over other dimensions?

Warning: Spoilers
Now that in the series was given this new "skill" to Sam and Dean I caught myself thinking about what are the chances of God having any power over other dimensions.

A rare Lovecraftian episode
CubsandCulture19 July 2021
For as much as the show is indebted to the horror genre as well as cosmic mythology there's very very few episodes that are Lovecraftian in Supernatural. Lovecraft is referenced directly in season 6's "Let it Bleed" and occasionally the show will invoke how the supernatural can make people go insane, i.e. "Yellow Fever" and/or "Sam, Interrupted." Likewise a few of the Men of Letters episodes invoke the secret society thing that crops up in Lovecraft. This episode manages to blend a lot the basic elements of the show with the tropes in Lovecraft. The monster is largely alien. The secret society at the heart of this episode reminds me of a Shadow over Innsmouth. There is even the Rhode Island connection. Overall this is a really engaging episode that forwards the main plot of the season while being distinctive.

Another Men of Letters 'thing
rimailbox20 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Solomon's treasure. It's interesting because this episode started with kind of cultist/sect and our mischievous Dean.

Dean said about Men of Letters, they were boring. I thought smart-nerd-people has their own way so they always be interesting-awesome but also indirectly boring. We will be escorted with our assume the boys did their best to looking for the way to open the apocalipse world to save dearest mom and our Jack. And again, don't judge Supernatural based on the first impression, because you will get trapped with your own assume. Dean almost became a victim of sexual harassment of monster, poor Dean, you are indeed full of charm. If opening the portal and returning the woman to a tentacle monster could solve the problem, why didn't they do it for a long time, huh?

Gabriel! Gabriel there, for the real, he is alive! He is so mess up because Asmodeus torture him that much, Gabe looks like bum with those bloody poor face. Asmodeus kind of reckless person who easly get something, but also easly lost them. Am I right? He lost Cas and Lucifer before. And Mister Ketch, you are dedicated-masculine-interesting-british-guy, nice ! 👍

Entertaining but some annoying plot points
shwetafabm5 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked the feel and mystery of the episode. Though clearly the brothers should know better, not everything can be tested. How in the world did these people have archangel grace? Maybe that's not what it was... The whole Ketch thing, honestly i am annoyed with the redemption archs of the show, they can't let evil stay evil it seems. The whole escapes that we have had on the show have just been so stupid. Also i am just perpetually annoyed with why the demons are so goofy and comedic.

Same old same old.
mm-3913 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I have not watched Supernatural for a couple of years and this is Why! The Thing goes back and forth in time! A sub-plot of the current episode goes into the series main plot. The current installment is either getting a person or object to solve a problem. A mix of characters, which affect other characters plans in an evil vs good plot; just like a soap opera. Gone are the days original, humorous, episodes which pay homage to horror movies; movie like Friday the 13th. Watching the Thing is like Watching The Vampire Diaries! I lose interest. I believe the makers of Supernatural are going after the Jensen Ackles Day's of our Lives female Soap Opera audience. A good formula for one part of the audience, but bad for a hardcore horror man, which I am guilty of part of the audience. The Thing is okay, but been there done it before episode. 5 stars. I will watch next week's episode and see if there is an improvement.
