it made absolutely no sense
vstarhawthorne24 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Save yourself the time dont watch it. Very bad acting, poor dialogue. Just garbage. Even the summary is misleading.it lacked a story it made no sense as if it was thrown together at the last minute. There was no character development. 1hr and 22 minutes of pure nonsense.

Too much time been a stand up
killerbeam12 December 2021
Over 90% of the movie is like a super common late show where you ear everything. Many words are too much, like a free agression to everything.

The main points are that you will applaude the guy that should be a "red coat" (the ones that nobody cares about). The main actress just read texts showed behind the camera, some scenes are worst than everyday school theatre.

So, just watch and don't get your hopes high. And don't try to make sense of the movie. Has so many failures that the best one is getting a wireless phone that uses a lithium battery.

Wow, movies sick these days
kuner-5902914 December 2021
I saw this on a streaming site and knew it was going to be trash. Sometimes trash can be fun, but it's not the 80s anymore, where people put their heart into low budget horror movies and did something either clever, adorable with latex masks or shocking.

Now it's just slow, badly lit, digitally filmed, color graded to hell with ugly green or yellow tint, bad soundtrack and scripts written by what can only be 3rd graders with learning disability. I could make a better film with 50k and an Iphone.

The acting is atrocious as well, with the squeaky voice lead being virtually impossible to watch.

Naturally, as a modern movie, everything has to be slow, so 80 minutes end up feeling like 150. This has less narrative density than an episode of a tv show.

Who funds this stuff? There must be some kind of funding scheme going here which I'm not yet privy to.

Pointless waste of time
LaverneandShirleysucks24 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
For one, there is so much freaking talk in this film. Talk, talk, talk is all these people do for the bulk of the movie. The only time any real action happens is during the first and last 5 minutes.

Secondly, the girl who plays Ashley is terrible. She can't say a line without ticking her head. I don't know if it was the way the character was supposed to be or this is her acting method. Either way it was annoying.

She also can't utter sentence without using an expletive and that got boring real fast. She was just a terrible actress and I almost shut it off solely because of her.

Then there's the random 80's setting to the film. I can't figure out why they chose to set it in that time period as it had no relevance whatsoever to the story. Maybe they needed a reason to eliminate the presence of cell phones I guess. Still, it was weird to set it in that time period without contributing anything to the story.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS!!!

Then there's the ending. After 80 or so minutes, you start to care for the guy they had tied up because he's the only normal character in this mess of a film and also acted circles around his bad acting co stars.

He finally gets untied and immediately seizes the opportunity to kill one of his captors in a blind rage as any real person would have done....but then all of a sudden the scene slips away from reality and leaves the viewer in jaw dropping awe at the incredibly stupid writing.

After killing one captor, he picks up the captor's shotgun, points it at the other captor.....and then just DROPS IT ON THE FLOOR to run out of the house?! What the hell?! Um, no...he clearly would NOT do that after just busting the head of his captor with a lava lamp! He's still in an angry rage and would've blown the other captor away in an instant without even thinking about it. It's a fight for survival and he would not have just dropped the gun to run out of the house unarmed and with his back to them!! Not in a million years would that happen even with the stupidest hostage!

Of course the other captor picks up the shotgun and blasts him in the back 2 seconds later as he's running away. NO ONE WOULD DROP THE SHOTGUN!!....NO ONE!! THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN!!

At that point the film is over and I felt angry and cheated because I wanted to click it off right there in disgust but the film ended anyway before I could do that.

I think with better actors and a realistic ending, this could've been a good film, but it was way too talky with no action and when things finally pick up, you're let down by the incredibly unrealistic actions of the hostage and before you can even get angry and shut it off the credits roll.

I'm giving it 2 stars because I managed to stick with this mess until the end and the guy playing the hostage was the only one who appeared to have gone to acting school.

Watch if you must, but definitely NOT recommended!

Another female empowerment movie ofthe week.
jonasatmosfera12 December 2021
Alas, I guess that people got this idea of empowerment completely wrong. But I can be wrong and a cheerleader with noodle arms holding a bloodied 10-pound ax is what people had envisaged.

Anyway, the film is as atrocious as one of its poster (the cheerleader and the ax...). Acting is awful, the f-word is used ad-nauseam (sometimes, while watching these "masterpieces", I have the impression that the whole English vocabulary is composed of the s-word and the f-word, only). No character in this mess is likable (I thought Canadians were nicer people). And, as usual, we have people behaving as brainless morons.

Another movie that soon will be found on the $0.99 Walmart discount bin.

What?
debbijean24 October 2021
This movie is terribly hard to watch. I had to quit halfway through. The F word is rampant and characters are creepy. Doesn't make much sense and no likable characters at all.

Fun for the whole family!
ashleyflowers-2046225 November 2021
A fun campy low budget flick. You don't come across many ultra low budget movies that are as fun to watch as HOSTAGE!

Enjoyed the disturbing story and it was refreshing to see new talent.

Great flick.

HORRIBLE MOVIE
thickmadame-515441 July 2022
This movie is by far the worse movie I've seen in my 39 years of life. Too much use of the F-word and terrible acting. Cut it off halfway through it. Wasted 30 minutes of my night.

SOLID ENTERTAINMENT
corytylerjames25 November 2021
Seeing lots of reviews by people that clearly did NOT watch this sick movie. A good time for anyone who loves thrillers.

It's nice to see Canadian filmmakers get something done.

A good watch for the holiday season.
