Well done short
Snootz5 July 2017
Generally I dislike shorts because they start with a poor script and degenerate from there. But this is an unusually well-done work. The acting is good, photography decent, and CGI better than expected.

At first I thought I was going to have to swallow this with a grain of salt and grant artistic license to the story-telling. Without spoiling anything, that turned out to not be the case as that artistic license tied everything together very nicely. Believable? Have to remember this is a comic-book theme. The portrayal of Dr. Doom is believable, and that's all that's really necessary in that category.

Don't stop watching at the credits or you'll miss an important part of the story. Beyond that, "No spoilers!"

Enjoy this one!

Solid fan-film although not as dark in content as in concept (SPOILERS)

Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure if there has been a really good presentation of Dr Doom in films yet – not the character's fault so much as the various Fantastic Four outings in the last years not being much cop. This fan-film retells the origin of Victor von Doom, fleeing for his life while his father is murdered for failing to save the Baron's wife. In this film, we see an older Doom using time-travel to return to intervene in that key moment of his life. Because my first thought of Doom is MF Doom, I'm not very knowledgeable of back-stories, and am not sure if it is canon or not, but as an idea I really liked it. It has a darkness to it that speaks a lot to the character of Doom that we know, but also how he changed and how much he is willing to sacrifice to maintain what he is.

The dark tone suits this material, and it is well filmed technically, with good use of locations. The ending is solid, but at the same time I wanted it to have more clout in the dialogue; it is good but mostly it is so due to the concept rather than being really strong at the end. An engaging fan-film that keeps the effects to the necessary minimum, and delivers a dark idea on a popular character.
