Murder mystery in small-town Cuba.
emanuelestella8 January 2019
Set in 1994, Sugar is accused of murdering 3 people, including her parents, in a small town in central Cuba. Investigators piece together evidence as provided by witnesses in the form of black-and-white flashbacks. Set against major events of the Cuban revolution, we learn of Elena (Yara Masiel), who since childhood has been courted by 2 men, Emilio and Tomas, who constantly fight each other to win her love.

Absolutely blew my mind

The film is supposed to be about an erotic triangle. However, it's about the bestialization and denigration of a whole village, since 1959. It takes no wise man to deduce that the village represents Cuba as a whole. Absolutely spectacular, one of my top-10 movies of all times, so proud of Cuban cinema. Top class acting and the script is a true gem.

Excelent film

Loved the structure, script and overall cinematic language. A+ actors. It kept my attention from the beginnig to the end. I learnt about Cuba's history through a well-developed fiction. It deserves an award. I hope it will be broadly distributed. Bravo!
