Foul-mouthed granny steals the show...
paul_haakonsen12 July 2021
When I sat down in 2021 to watch the 2015 South Korean comedy drama "Helmeoni" (aka "Granny's Got Talent"; yeah, pretty bad English title), I wasn't really having much of any expectations for the movie, given the synopsis.

But since it was an Asian movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I found the time to sit down to watch this movie from writer and director Hansol Shin.

And I will say that "Granny's Got Talent" was actually an enjoyable movie. It wasn't really the type of comedy that had me laughing a lot, but it is more of a type of make you feel good kind of comedy.

Kim Su-Mi, playing the granny, definitely carried the movie quite well with her performance, and this was simply her movie alone.

"Granny's Got Talent" is not your average type of South Korean comedy, and is may be something of an acquired taste. As such, then I don't think that "Granny's Got Talent" is a movie that will just easily fall into liking with just everyone in the audience.

I enjoyed this 2015 movie, because it was offbeat and deviated from the usual types of comedies seen in the South Korean cinema. So it was a breath of fresh air to the genre for me.

I am rating "Granny's Got Talent" a six out of ten stars. It is a good movie, you just have to get past the lousy English title.
