Adam's best trick so far is not having any reviews for this show.
jwleaman23 June 2018
Adam is a magician armed with tricks, a good attitude, and a sense of adventure the really resonates with me. He wants viewers to see the barriers that magic can break down, but his execution across the first few episodes is unorthodox and lands him in some pretty raw corners of Europe. Adam uses his magic to defuse tense situations outside his comfort zone (and mine), impress new friends, and expose areas of culture not often captured on camera. It's impressive how sincerely authentic Adam comes across on camera.

My feedback for Adam: Be more curious about food. You say comedy is the best ice breaker, but it's a distant second to food. How many people that were initially hostile toward you would have had that reaction if you were breaking bread with them? That being said, please keep pushing your comfort zone and if you're ever in Boston, let's try to sneak into a party or something!

The tricks themselves are okay.

Magic is only the subtext of this adventure

I had to binge watch all 10 episodes once I saw the first one. One thinks its a show about magic. Its really a show about Adam's self discovery in worlds he does not know well. I hope he'll take more adventures . . . Asia maybe?

Interesting show!

I'd give this a higher rating, but I can't stand the fact that he doesn't enjoy food at all. He ate at McDonald's and ordered a steak well-done! The waiter rightfully served him medium rare and said he wouldn't serve well-done.lol

For a guy who wants to experience cultures, he doesn't put much effort in actually experiencing their food. It's very painful to watch... specially from a guy like me who watches Bizarre Foods and all the Bourdain shows!

With that said, I love the show very much. I enjoy the simple tricks he does. People are saying his tricks are weak, etc... but the show is about more than that. He's also a lot more likable that David Blaine! His full stage shows are actually genius.

Overall, it's an entertaining show. Just cover your eyes and ears when he resists the local cuisine!

Handsome, charming, talented... and utterly devoid of humility, respect, or depth.

Adam Trent is undoubtedly a very talented magician, and the concept of him travelling around Europe using his tricks to befriend locals into sharing some of their culture is a sound one.

Unfortunately, his ignorant and entitled manner very quickly started to grate. He personified much of what pisses people off about Americans overseas, with his repeated acts of disrespect and general assumption that he could do whatever he wanted, regardless of local custom or regulations (or even basic good manners).

He also quickly became uncomfortably creepy around the young females he encountered, and on one occasion early in the series he even asked the cameras to stay behind as he walked off into the distance with a pretty young blonde, with the obvious intention of bedding her.

I didn't watch much further than that, so I can't say whether the series improved, or if he managed to learn anything valuable on his travels. But from his extremely high levels of self-confidence and undisguised conviction that he was fully entitled to get whatever he wanted (so long as he badgered and pestered people enough to get it) I would be very surprised if he gained anything from his journey except a further belief in his own greatness.

Handsome, charming, talented... and utterly devoid of humility, respect, or depth.

Great Show!

Adam is not your typical magician. He's kind and really interested in learning more about other cultures. This show mixes travel and magic so well. I love how even the most skeptical people lower their walls when they see Adam perform a trick for them. I found this show fun and endearing. Hoping for a season 2!

Nice kid: bad tricks
mattphlaum23 June 2018
In a show about magic, I was expecting something more along the lines of David Blaine performing a lot of magic. The tricks are few and far between, taking a backseat to the awkward social interactions that the star has with the locals. Adam is very charming in a sort of bumbling way but he is not a great magician. His sleight of hand was painful to watch and oftentimes the secrets themselves were blatantly obvious, even when performing tricks only for the camera that could perfected with better angles or another take. He should stick to Broadway shows where the size and scope and effects distract from his lack of talent.

Sleazy pick artist

Adam Trent goes from country to country using magic to pick up women. It's pretty underwhelming, especially in this climate

Occasionally charming, often annoying, always awkward...
KurosawaAkeeera2 December 2018
I wanted to like this show. It's obviously cheesy as can be right from the beginning, but I thought it might be cheesy in an endearing way. Adam has moments of charm but they're few and far between. The rest of the time is unbearably awkward. Like a reality version of Curb Your Enthusiasm, but without the self-awareness. He's pushy, entitled, and totally oblivious to social cues. He creeps on attractive young women and geeks out about talking to them like he's 12 years old.

Too painful to even finish the 10 episodes.

This show is terrible
csaint-1162226 June 2018
This train wreck is impossible to watch. The guy uses "magic tricks" to hit on ugly women. Other than that he wanders around having awkward interactions with people whos culture he has no idea about.

Learning simple greetings goes a long way...
projectincheon2 July 2018
Within the first 15 minutes of the first episode one thing was glaringly obvious. For wanting to 'get to know' other cultures, Adam sure doesn't take anytime to learn anything about the actual culture. It doesn't take very long to learn basic greetings so your opener is not always, "Hi, do you know English?"

Furthermore, his tricks are not that impressive and mostly done for the cute girls (that can speak English, of course).

The little cultural tidbits that pop up on the screen about the 'culture' are trite and, at times, ridiculous. They don't add anything about the actual culture.

For a better show about getting to know cultures while traveling, old episodes of Zane Lamprey's Three Sheets to the Wind, or his current show Chug, is worlds better, and he doesn't even do any magic! I do think Three Sheets is much more entertaining than Chug, though.

To sum up: another entitled American travels to other countries, doesn't bother to learn how to greet the locals, uses magic to meet girls. Not a bad vacation idea, but a horrible idea for a TV show.

a good intention, at first..
stoneweather30 December 2019
Decent magician, and from what i know, generally speaking, a good person who genuinely does his part to bring a little happiness into others' lives... but after a few episodes of THIS series it becomes clear that it really has not as much to do with reaching out to other cultures as it does with seeing what he can get for free or who he can hook up with by doing magic tricks...

Awful
ssdn-496751 July 2020
Far too smug for the kid's tricks he does. No respect for culture, if you don't understand English he thinks he can use his magic by saying the exact same sentence louder. Very uncomfortable to watch, basically a person giving himself pleasure by stretching his ego.
