A call for technology leads to a revealing surprise!
blanbrn26 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This episode of "Room 104" number 5 called the "Internet" is one that takes a twist as it's a revealing thing for the character as he finds something out about himself. This is set in 1997 at the height of the technology and internet boom, a man checks into room 104 to do some writing as he's got a call from a publishing company. Only thing is he's forgot his laptop! So he calls his mother to tell about the news from the publishing company and ask if the laptop has been left behind, as he needs it so he can start writing his story. The laptop was left behind only mother is not computer skilled and has a tough time getting the information to her son, and his story is even deleted! Yet thru it all a secret is revealed by mom and this makes the man come to terms and be thankful for life and just being in the moment. Overall good episode that proves while searching for something a revealing and unexpected discovery can come to the surface.

The Kid is the Idiot.

Warning: Spoilers
This takes place in 1997, I believe. I was 20 years old in 1997. Been around computers since I was four years old 'cause my father was and is really into computers. I remember going to these computer meetings with my father at AT&T at night in the 1980s where they would set up internet connections etc., it was boring for me as a child, I got lost in the bowels of AT&T a lot. Anyway, PDF's existed for the mass public since 1993. All one had to do was PDF their work, and send it as an attachment using Adobe. So, I guess no one making this episode was probably even alive in the 90s or if alive: knew absolutely nothing about computers.

I do know what it is like to lose a novel one has been working on for a long time. It is a very awful feeling. The time put in but not just that but the thought process of what was created; whole chapters that you love and then...gone. And people tend to say, "Well, can't you just write it again?" as if writers all have photographic memories. I mean, remember the basis and/or core of it isn't the same as remembering it word for word or remembering parts of it over others but it was the whole not the parts that made it what it was.

I didn't care for the ad-on of the main guy finding out he was adopted, or what not. It wasn't really needed. It's just adding unnecessary turmoil to a guy who is already suffering from a huge loss (in his mind.) Also, it didn't really sound like the character respected his mother so when finding out, I don't see why he cared so much; he basically belittled her throughout the entire episode.

Overall, could have been better but not the worst episode of the series.

The 90s
safenoe4 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Indian actor Karan Soni plays Anish (no last name is given to the character) and fellow Indian actress Poorna Jagannathan voices Divya, the mom of Anish. This is a blast from the past episode, when email was still the exclusive domain of government and university workers and students back in the 90s, before email became democratized by hotmail.

I love the 90s feel to this episode, and it's quite ironic about half the country's motels are now owned by Indian Americans, and this is I think the only episode of Room 104 that features an Indian cast.

Still, this episode is worth watching for the 90s references.

Could not finish. The mom is too annoying!

The mom is so unrealistically annoying and over the top that I turned it off after 8 minutes. Make sure you have a shot of whiskey before watching this!

You couldn't do that in 1997
nnoland-115 September 2019
The thing that bugs me about this episode is you couldn't just email an entire book over the internet email in 1997. The file would have been too big! It was very frustrating back then. Just the amount of text in one email would have been cut off!!! Maybe you should have set it in 2006 Idk

WTF
jamosmonk20 April 2023
Both the mother and the son are SO irritating. After she couldnt safely figure out how to open a file in a timely fashion he shouldve had her bring the computer to a competent person or he couldve sent a friend over to her house to deal with it. Her idiotic actions are deserved by this guy for even trying to do this task with her as she was clearly doing all of this deliberately. Was this a comedy skit? If so it wasn't too funny because both characters had grating personalities. And so it really dragged the anthology down. Hopefully the rest of the series is much better because it has potential.
