Cute movie, the acting is not the absolute best, but my 3 year old son loves it

So, my 3 year old son just loves this movie to pieces. Not entirely sure why... probably the talking dog had something to do with it. The two new friends that boy meets in the movie are on the weird side but friendly and there's some cheesy humor in the movie. I kinda feel like there should have been more talking critters in the movie. Heck, if they'd turned all the kids into talking critters as a part of a curse that breaks when finding the hidden treasure that'd have made the movie more bareable for me to watch over and over with my kid. The cat in the beginning talks and then that character disappears, I would have liked some more chat between the dog and the cat further along in the movie. All in all, kids will dig this movie. Parents, on the other hand may want to dig a hole for this movie and never set eyes on it again.

Look at who never should have never talked.

Warning: Spoilers
If cliched versions of modern adolescents who don't seem to act like modern adolescents (talking in some modern Hollywood form of how people with arrested development talk) gives you the giggles as well as not so legendary veteran comics providing pet voices, then go right ahead. It's another extremely annoying straight to video unfunny comedy about parents (in this case a single mom who probably should have never considered becoming a parent) pulling up stakes from the big city and moving to the suburbs, upsetting their children. They move into the home of the kid's grandfather (presumably related to the absentee father), an obvious odd duck who's belongings lead the kid and the pets onto an adventure. I've seen and tried to watch many of these types of films over the past couple of years, and none of them are any good because they really don't have any genuine imagination and the dialogue is extremely insipid, spouted by characters I really don't want to spend 90 minutes with. Norm McDonald as the dog and Rebecca Shoichet as the cat get yowels and hisses for being so genuinely unfunny. It's both a combination of their voices and the dialogue, a film that deserves to be buried deep in the backyard with the litter box and the very old bones, and covered in cement.

Dear Parents...this one is bad...but here's why you should watch.

Single mother and son about 11-12 years old move into Grandpa's house after he passes away. Son meets nerdy group of kids who are actually a lot cooler than the cool girl. They discover a secret treasure that could save the town. A couple of bumbling bad guys are also on the trail of the treasure. Think a very poor mans Home Alone with a dog.

This movie is terrible. But it's also cracking my seven year old son up and I'm getting a kick out of his reaction. So if you're always looking for a "family" movie for the adults and kids, this could be a a winner in your home. That is, if you don't take your self too serious of a person. I recommend if:

A- You're the cool parent (my wife would hate it) B- You're not already planning what med school your kid will attend. C- You're not a millennial. D- Not offended by the word "nerd" and the like. E- Your kids are under 10.

This one's bad but somehow it's working. Cheers

This film would've been nothing without Norm Macdonald

Norm Macdonald is what perhaps makes this film worth the watch!! Without him, this sort of entertainment is not what it seems!
