Loved this film!! An awesome doc, which tells the story of how the gorge came to be, while also sharing such personal stories from artists and fans alike. This movie takes me back to my favorite concerts.

Exceptional film

As an avid music fan, this was a must see for me. I liked that both A list celebrities and regular concert goers described life changing experiences at The Gorge. It truly is an amazing venue that seems to leave a lasting impression on anyone blessed to be able to attend a show there. All of the scenes are well shot, the audio is fantastic, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

A Music Lovers Dream, With A Powerful Story
stevenpesavento28 July 2021
The film brings together a powerful story about fans experience, with an incredible venue that has touched millions of attendees. As someone who's been to the gorge one time, I can understand why its such a powerful experience. Watching the movie was a like a flashback to the experience I had, while sharing a ton about this history.

My favorite part was how they shared real stories about how the Gorge impacted a handful of fans, and it truly brings powerful emotions to the story.

I highly recommend watching this film. Get your popcorn, get your friends together and get ready to dive into something entertaining. If you've been to the gorge you'll get it right away, and if you haven't you'll quickly start to see why people love it so much. But again the best part is how they brought a group of fans stories to light, which make this so much more than a documentary about a venue. Its really about an experience and lifestyle that so many people love!

Amazing!
sabrina-0207028 April 2022
I went into the film blind and really enjoyed it! I had no idea about the rich history of the Gorge Amphitheater before watching and it was so interesting to learn how it came to be such an iconic venue for concerts! Not only is the film beautifully shot, but it also tells such a compelling story that I genuinely really enjoyed watching. I'd definitely recommend you watch even if you don't know much about the Gorge!

Show, don't tell
rayates23 July 2021
It would be totally unfair to compare this documentary to Woodstock: the movie, but it does illuminate the severe shortcomings of Enormous: the Gorge Story. Writers (and documentary filmmakers) are perennially instructed to "show, don't tell", and therein lies one difference between these two films.

Enormous is largely an endless series of people telling us how wonderful the gorge amphitheater venue is, while almost none of it simply shows us. And those commenters just go on and on and on telling us. More than a couple make the insightful remark that "It's so great I really can't put it into words."

If you hope that the film will highlight the music, you will be disappointed there, also. Concert footage is in every instance cut very short to, once again (and again), tell us how great it was. Bob Dylan got about 15 seconds of blurred and muddy performance before we get to hear how much his presence boosted sales. The best music was an unknown duo singing alongside the credits. They actually get to finish the whole song.

The human interest angle is overdone with an episodic recounting by a woman about attending with her sister who later died of cancer. She is not especially articulate and her showing us blurry photo souvenirs and telling us how great it was is not "showing." She does not have much to say and does so over and over. It even becomes a little uncomfortable as the film makers seem to be a little desperate for the human angle and seem to be least partially exploiting her for the film.

In the first half hour the venue and its origins are of some interest and you get the feeling that it really might have been special to be there. But as the years go by it gets bigger, more commercial and more exploitative of the setting (dynamiting the hillside to enlarge the seating?).

The overall impression is that the whole film is simply a promotional device for the music festivals and their promoters - a big advertisement as a teaser for what you might actually hear there. No thanks.

Little chapter about American music history
lphifer-0972627 July 2021
This is a comforting and fun film featuring amazing musicians! It's an especially good doc for people who love The Gorge and/or Dave Matthews Band, but even if you aren't a fan it's a nice love letter to a music venue and it's barely 60 mins!!

Beautiful Film
younglifetm27 July 2021
Breathe-taking footage of The Gorge Amphitheater, it really made you want to take a road trip to Washington and be a part of The Gorge story. Dave Matthews had so many hilarious interview moments and Jason Mraz's story was truly inspiring. I loved the way the film portrayed just how meaningful the Amphitheater is to those who helped build it and those who regularly attended shows and festivals there. So glad that someone finally put this together and told these stories.

A Novel Film
courtneyclapenta15 September 2021
I have an unique relationship to the film Enormous, as I was able to witness some of the production process years before it became public.

What struck me the most about both the process and product of the film was the clear devotion of all people (producers, fans, musicians, distributors, and families) to the pure craft of music.

Yes, I am biased and will rate the film highly because of my connection to the process. But I also see something different in this film than many others- an angle that shows the visceral love of music and how it can bring people together in the most unlikely of ways. For this reason, I say the film is absolutely novel.

My love for this movie is Enormous!
theofightmaster27 July 2021
Maybe it's the long absence of live music. Maybe it's Dave Matthews - one of the greatest songwriters to ever live - sharing his experiences. Or perhaps it's the touching personal notes from spectators matched with the shared passion of the performers of this gorgeous, god-created venue that has me infatuated with this documentary and the Gorge itself.

The filmmakers did an exceptional job delivering an amazing story that is so incredibly unique to our space and time in this universe.

Loved it.

What a beautiful tribute to a breathtaking venue
retiredgroupie27 July 2021
From beginning to end this enthralling so documentary captured my attention. I hadn't known much about The Gorge except that it had held some of my favorite artists. After watching Enormous, I came out having learned so much about this aspirational venue.

Between side stitching laughter, pure fun facts, and really pulling at the heart strings you won't be disappointed viewing this masterpiece!!!

Beautifully Shot And Engaging Film
nina-8878727 July 2021
This film was so beautifully shot and was a joy to watch from start to finish. Learning about the beginnings of this historic music venue through the lense of live music performance was not only engaging but also fascinating. If you're a fan of Dave Matthews, Pearl Jam, or Jason Mraz, you don't want to miss this never before seen footage of them as well. I dare you not to shake your booty in your seat while watching. :)
