An average episode.

Humphrey takes Martha for a romantic weekend at the fabulous Hotel Cecile, but no sooner are they there, Humphrey is drawn into a case of mirder.

I have to say I'm pretty much in agreement with several of my fellow reviewers here, at best this is a distinctly average episode, it's one of those that's sadly forgettable, leaving virtually no impact on the viewer.

The story is quite a bland one, unfortunately despite being well acted and nicely filmed, it's quite boring.

I really liked Angela Bruce, who played Ernestine Grey, I also thought Jason Hughes was pretty good, sadly Mark Powley was woefully underused.

The solution didn't really work for me, too tenuous.

Mixed bag, 6/10.

Kerry Fox

Warning: Spoilers
The Impossible Murder is unique in that there's a long soliloquy at the end which allowed Kerry Fox to deliver a long soliloquoy to reaffirm her acting skills. I would have loved for Danny Dyer to appear in this episode.

Still, I like Death in Paradise and hopefully it can continue for many more years to come.

Still nothing to write home about!

Warning: Spoilers
The sixth season of "Death in Paradise" has started decent, but not impressive. "Erupting in Murder" was fine and "The Secret of the Flamme Tree" a bit better. "The Impossible Murder" on the other hand is easily the weakest of the three. It's not a bad entry, but disappointing.

Let's start with good, shall we?

. The production values are great as usual. The direction is beautiful and the music fits the scenery. The acting's fine too. Jason Hughes and Kerry Fox fare the best of the guest stars.

. There are some heartwarming parts in the script. Really liked how Martha's and Humphrey's relationship is portrayed. I really felt they click together!

But...

. The murder mystery is a run of the mill-one with a formulaic plot, which has very little energy that other episodes have had. The jokes about Dwayne flirting with girls have gone old.

. The characters too are underwhelming with not as much development as I would have wanted too.

. The solution was agreed extremely disappointing. The fact that there is "no suspects coming together" ending was an experiment, which did not work. If a writer writer a formulaic mystery, which uses many known tropes, why not have that Agatha Christie ending? It makes no sense for me. And there is more. Even though the identity of the killer (Linda Taylor) was okay, the motive for the murder and how the break-in was staged were very stupid and not plausible.

Overall, an okay, but very flawed entry.

5/10 HK

Warning: Spoilers
So you have been fatally wounded and want to protect your killer.

The obvious way to do this is to walk into the restaurant with the knife in your hand saying you had an accident and die there. Or imaybe cut your own throat in the restaurant in front of witnesses.

But no, you immediatly think up an elaborate plan involving washing the knife, carry your sandwich to your room, faking a robbery gone wrong, hiding your knife, watch and bloody scarf...

Excellent style, terrible writing.

Nice atmosphere, daft conclusion.

Standard trajectory for this series - seemingly impossible crime, suspicion eventually landing on the small group in the vicinity - but with a silly final five minutes. Maybe some creature from an alien universe might behave like the perpetrator, but on earth .... nah.

Very disappointed sympathy for the killer

This is about a man that is killed in a hotel that his brother Elliot and his wife Linda own. Charlie Taylor the man killed had not seen his brother Elliot in 25 years. It appears to be a burglary. His room is messed up, clothes are out of the draws and more.

This episode has 2 more things they focus on. One is DI Goodman the cop is in love with Martha. She visits him and has little time to spend with her because of his murder investigation and she is only there temporarily.

JP is having trouble with his wife Rosie. They argued for the first time since marriage, tried to talk about why they argued etc. Dwayne Myers is a cop and gives JP advice about women which is negative most of the time. Dwayne is a womanizer and flirt.

The end was disappointing to me. Goodman does not have his meeting with suspects as usual and would point out the killer. This time he confronted the killer and him and Florence showed too much sympathy for the killer who was not arrested publicly like all the other episodes and taken away by JP and Dwayne.. Also Elliot Taylor/Jason Hughes who was a cop Ben Jones in "Midsomer Murders" uses "Christ" name as a swearing word which I am totally against as a Christian.

As an aside I do love the series "Death in Paradise". The cast are funny and nice and the area where it is filmed is beautiful and colorful with bright colored outdoor markets and ocean scenes. Catherine, Camille's mother who owns a bar and restaurant is alway polite, helpful and funny.
